The Lust System: Brother, Please Help Me-Chapter 84: Having a good night
Cassandra and the man were still hugging each other. Ember made no move to stop it. She was not close to Cassandra, and she did not know their relationship. As far as she could see, the man cared for her. Who was she to stop whatever was happening between them?
So she leaned into a jealous Aiden’s arms and watched.
Aiden, on the other hand, was pleased with himself. Even if he was called jealous, Ember’s attention was on him, and that’s all he wanted. He observed the other people in the hallway. His hand never left his gun. Even while hugging Ember, he ensured his senses were on high alert.
"Are you four done?" a woman called out.
Her face was twisted with anger.
Ember glanced over at her. If not for the way her face was contorted, Ember would consider her a good-looking woman. She had to marvel at this world. It appears that lust energy gives people nice bodies and good looks. Not that she has never seen people who look average. But the vast majority could be considered good-looking.
"Hey, Cass," Ember said, sounding closer to Cassandra than she actually was. "Friend of yours?"
It was obviously a sarcastic question. The way the woman looked at Cassandra as she leaned against the man made it clear just why she was angry. Cassandra did not acknowledge the woman.
"Don’t pay attention to her. She’s spoiled and doesn’t know when to shut up," Cassandra said.
"It’s the apocalypse, just punch her in the mouth, let her lose some teeth, she’ll stop talking. It’s not like she can call the police," Ember replied nonchalantly.
Turning to the man, Ember asked. "Are you the leader of this group?"
He did not answer when an older man walked out. He was in his fifties. One of the oldest people Ember had seen in the spocalypse thus far.
"I am," he stepped forward.
Ember saw this man and didn’t like him. His face appeared honest, but his eyes were calculating. It was clear that he was able to take care of this group of people by how clean they were, but who knew what he was planning?
Anyway, Ember didn’t trust him. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Oh, I wouldn’t have realized," Ember replied, her tone flat. "Anyway, Mr leader, we’ll be staying in the hotel. You all can stay on the third floor, since it seems like you claimed it. We’ll go up to the fourth. Is that good?"
Ember’s tone wasn’t one of discussion. She had already decided. She turned to walk away.
"Wait," Cassandra called out. "I’ll go with you."
Ember did not stop her from coming. "Maybe you should ask your team and your boyfriend first?"
Cassandra turned in the man’s arms. She did not speak, only looked at him like a lost puppy. It didn’t take long for him to agree, but only if he was able to go with her. Ember shrugged when Cassandra turned to ask for her approval.
"I’m going too," said the angry woman.
"No. You aren’t invited," Ember replied in a cold voice.
"You can’t stop me," she countered.
"Aiden, Warning shot."
Aiden raised the gun and shot. The bullet flew past the woman’s ear and down the corridor. It ended up in the wall at the end of the hall. The woman held her ear, feeling the sting.
"If you follow," Ember’s voice was low, "the next bullet goes into your head."
The others were stunned at how accurate the gun was and how willing they were to kill people. Not that they themselves hadn’t kill but they had only killed zombies, not people. The calm on the faces of the three people let the others know this was not the first time they might have killed or almost killed someone.
Ember turned to Cassandra, "Still coming?"
Cassandra nodded, dragging the man along. The other stood in the hallway of the third floor, still stunned.
The five people went to the fourth floor.
"Cass, quick question. Is there anyone other than you all in this hotel?" Ember asked as she stared at the empty hallway.
"I don’t know. We only got here today. We haven’t seen anyone. We just agreed to stay in the hotel because it was quiet and because Melina, the angry chick, decided she didn’t want to leave."
Ember nodded, indicating she understood. Did this hotel have a shield against zombies, too? No, that’s not right. There are blood stains everywhere. There must be others here. Maybe they are on higher floors.
Whatever the reason for the quiet, Ember knew she needed to be cautious.
"Everyone, pick a room. We’ll spend the night here. Cass, come to me later, I have something to give you." Ember smiled a sly smile. "You guy, treat my friend well."
She didn’t say what guy she was referring to, but everyone knew who it was.
Ember and Aiden stepped into a room together. They checked every corner of the room, ensuring no one else was there.
A layer of dust, as with every other part of the hotel, was found on the furnishings. The plush carpet was soft, but obvious signs of needing to be cleaned were there. Visiting the bathroom, it too had dust. Ember tried the shower; there was water.
She nodded. Even if they did not use the water, she could pretend they did.
After making sure the coast was clear. She threw the bags on the couch in the room. She removed the dusty sheet and took out a pair she had. She might not be able to give herself every possible convenience, but the things she could control, she would not hesitate.
After she and Aiden freshened up, there was a knock on the door.
Ember opened it to find Cassandra on the other side. Seeing it was her, she pulled her inside. At the same time, she pushed Aiden out of the room.
"She’s in the room across from us. Go keep her boyfriend company. We’re having a girl talk." She kissed Aiden swiftly and pushed him out the door.
He could only stand there looking at the closed door. Resigning himself, he knocked on the door of the opposite room.
