The Mafia's Undoing-Chapter 197: The Siege at Home
By morning, I was home with the kids, with Bella and Susan visiting. It was a normal, peaceful day, with Rose playing with her dolls, Hector reading quietly, and Thomas napping. This was precious normalcy...
When we heard the security breach alarm, we were urged to act urgently. The perimeter had been compromised, and multiple intruders had been detected.
"PANIC ROOM! NOW!"
Bella grabbed Rose and ran. Susan grabbed Thomas from his crib with the nanny following behind as they ran.
I armed myself by taking the weapon from the drawer. The years of training and Tony’s lessons had prepared me for times like this.
"Hector! Follow your Aunt Bella and protect your sister!"
At the panic room, Hector got Rose inside. He was young but brave and very protective. The Marvin blood in him is showing.
Rose was crying, clearly scared. "Mama! I want Mama!"
"Mama’s coming, Rosie. I’ll protect you, I promise."
They locked the panic room door. It was a reinforced steel door with a code lock, which was safe for them, temporarily at least.
But they could hear the gunfire outside - the screaming and the fighting.
Rose clung to him desperately. "Hector, I’m so scared!"
"Be brave like Mama Katherine and Papa Tony taught us. We’re Marvins, and we’re strong. We choose to survive, okay?"
Volkov’s team breached the house. There were six men, all heavily armed.
I engaged immediately, my weapon drawn and my muscle memory taking over.
I shot the first attacker at center mass, and he was down instantly. There was no hesitation in me anymore.
The second attacker was a hand-to-hand combat, and it was brutal, but I was desperate, so I survived.
My maternal fury came in with the need to protect my children. I was unstoppable.
I had a knife fight with the third attacker at close quarters. It was dangerous, and I got injured, but I was victorious.
I saw blood dripping down my arm, whether from his or mine, I didn’t care as I kept on fighting. My children needed me.
Bella was equally not helpless. She had learned serious self-defense after David’s death. Her therapy had included extensive training.
She engaged the fourth attacker, protecting Thomas’s room with the nanny cowering behind her. She was fierce.
"You’re not touching this baby!" Bella roared.
She fought hard and somehow won, surprising herself.
The attacker was down with Bella standing over him, shocked at herself. "I just... I just killed-"
"You protected him. You did exactly what you had to do." I reassured her.
Susan was with Thomas in the safe room, locked and secure.
The fifth attacker breached the safe room door using hydraulic tools. He broke through the reinforced door.
Susan called 911 desperately. "There are armed intruders in our home, and children are in immediate danger! SEND EVERYONE NOW!"
The attacker entered, but Susan tried to block the doorway to protect Thomas. She was unarmed but determined.
"You’ll have to go through me first." She spat.
The attacker raised his weapon, aiming at her.
Then I appeared and shot him from behind. No hesitation and no mercy.
"No one threatens my family. No one." I screamed and called Agent Timothy.
Timothy coordinated a massive FBI response. He sent SWAT teams and tactical units, mobilizing helicopters.
"All units converge on Marvin’s residence immediately. There is an active hostage situation, and children are in imminent danger."
I was still on the phone with Timothy. "We’re holding them off, but more are coming. I think they’re building up outside."
"Katherine, get to the panic room and barricade yourselves. Wait for us."
"I can’t. Thomas and the nanny aren’t in the panic room. I can’t leave them vulnerable."
"Then hold your position. We’re coming fast."
Bella, Susan, and I held the second floor. There were three armed attackers remaining outside.
The attackers couldn’t breach our position, but we could’t escape either.
Hector and Rose were safe in the panic room.
Volkov’s team leader called up. "Mrs. Marvin, surrender now! We don’t want to hurt the children! We want you!"
"You’ll never get me or get my children!"
"Your husband defied us, and you all will pay the price. Give yourself up, and the children go free unharmed."
"I don’t trust you! The FBI is coming right now!"
The attacker tried to breach the panic room again. He had explosives planted, which were dangerous and could kill Rose and Hector.
My rage was overwhelming. "YOU’RE THREATENING MY CHILDREN!"
This was a reckless attack, but I charged down the stairs, my maternal fury overriding every survival instinct I had.
I shot the attacker at point-blank range. He was dead before hitting the ground.
Two attackers were left, and both fired at me, the bullets missing narrowly.
Bella covered me while Susan provided a distraction. The three of us were coordinated.
In the panic room, Hector could hear the intense gunfire. His mother was in danger, and his baby sister was terrified.
"Rosie, stay here. Don’t open this door for anyone except Mama, Papa, or the FBI. Promise me."
"Where are you going?" Rose asked.
"Helping Mama."
Despite his young age, he opened the panic room door. Leaving safety to find a weapon - Luca’s team had left guns accessible.
It was too heavy and big for him, but he was determined. Dante’s combat training was emerging, a buried muscle memory.
He found the attacker and quietly snuck up behind him. "Leave my mama alone!"
He shot but missed, which was an effective distraction. I turned to finish off the attacker.
"HECTOR! GET BACK TO PANIC ROOM IMMEDIATELY!"
"I’m helping! I’m protecting our family!" I shouted, fear in my voice.
What have we done? This was a young child holding a gun. This isn’t safe, it isn’t a life for children, I thought to myself.
Helicopters and SWAT teams in tactical vehicles arrived.
"FBI! DROP YOUR WEAPONS IMMEDIATELY!"
The last attacker surrendered as he was massively outgunned.
I’m collapsed from the adrenaline crash. Injured and bleeding from the knife wound, but I was alive.
Bella and Susan were safe.
Hector ran to me. "Mama Katherine! I helped! I protected us!"
I hugged him tightly, crying. "You did, sweetheart. You’re so incredibly brave."
But I still thought to myself that this wasn’t safe. A child shouldn’t hold guns. What kind of life did we get ourselves into?
The paramedics started treating the injuries immediately: my deep knife wound on my shoulder, Bella’s severely bruised ribs, and Susan’s severe shock.
Rose emerged cautiously from the panic room. She saw the destruction; blood everywhere, bodies, and I knew it would traumatize her.
"Mama? What happened here?" She asked, her eyes dried from her tears.
"Bad people came, baby, but Mama stopped them. You’re safe now."
Thomas was still crying, indicating he was terrified by the chaos and noise. The nanny was desperately comforting him.
Timothy secured the crime scene. "Six attackers in total. Three dead and three captured alive. Volkov’s team confirmed."
"Where’s Volkov himself? Where’s Maxwell?"
"Unknown. They probably fled internationally. We have officially issued an international search."
The eight hours were the longest flight of Tony’s entire life. As soon as he landed in New York, he raced home immediately.
He saw the destruction with the Police everywhere, the FBI, and ambulances.
"KATHERINE! ROSE! HECTOR! THOMAS!"
He found us safe, injured, but still breathing.
I hugged him, and we collapsed together, crying from relief.
"I’m so sorry. This is my fault... I brought this danger-"
"No, you fought them. We fought them, and we survived."
At the hospital, I required stitches for the knife wound. Bella was checked thoroughly for internal injuries while Susan was treated for severe shock.
Pediatric specialists evaluated the children. Rose was severely traumatized, but Hector was surprisingly resilient, somehow. Thomas was still too young to retain memories.
We were all gathered together as a family in the hospital room.
"Volkov’s still out there, and Maxwell too. They’ll come again eventually." I said.
"Then we find them first so we can end this threat permanently," Tony responded grimly.
Late at night, as our family still recovered in the hospital with the FBI protection everywhere.
Timothy arrived, his face serious. "We have a problem. A very big problem."
"What now? What else could happen?" I asked.
"It’s Maxwell Pierson. He’s filed criminal complaints against you both."
"What?" Tony was startled, and so were we.
"Claims you embezzled from Marvin Ventures and stole his investment capital. He has fabricated evidence everywhere, and there are warrants issued for your immediate arrest."
"That’s insane. He attacked us! He’s the criminal here!" I cried out.
"He has extensive documents. Obviously, they’re forged, but it’s extremely convincing. It contains bank records and emails. It’s a complete evidence trail, and the Judges had signed arrest warrants. The Federal marshals are coming to arrest you both, right now."
Tony and I... being arrested for crimes Maxwell committed? Now framed again.
"This is Ashford all over again. We’re being destroyed legally while the real criminals hide."
"What do we do?" Tony asked.
Timothy was conflicted. "I can delay marshals. They’d be two hours. Maybe three maximum, but Katherine, Tony, " He looked at us both. "You need to decide immediately. Turn yourselves in or run."
"Run to where? We can’t run with three young kids hiding forever." I said to him.
"Then you fight this in court and hope that truth actually wins. However, Maxwell’s fabricated evidence is very good, and you might lose. If he wins, you go to prison for years."
The federal marshals later arrived with an official warrant in hand.
"Anthony Marvin. Katherine Marvin. You’re under arrest for embezzlement and fraud."
They took us in front of our children. Rose screamed hysterically, Hector froze, and Thomas cried out.
We were being handcuffed and led away... again. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
The nightmare never ends.
