The Magic Academy's Physicist-Chapter 109: Its A Conspiracy, Not A Rendezvous (2)
Chapter 109: It's A Conspiracy, Not A Rendezvous (2)
The daughter of the Totzfel family, Angelica Totzfel.
She had been born as a member of a Grand Duke family, but never once considered herself as privileged. No matter how many times she learned aristocratic etiquette, it would never stick with her and most of all, it was bothersome.
The way her family pestered her to study had only sounded like nagging. Though she wasn’t stupid, she wasn’t a genius, either. It was just enough that she could make it into Tilette by trying her hardest.
Because of her family’s suggestion that had been more like blackmail, Angelica had been forced to take the Tilette exams. And she had passed.
But the sense of pride of having accomplished something at the end of her teenage years had been brief. The Totzfels had taken it for granted, as most of their family consisted of gifted people.
Her admissions score had been on the low end, and her marks afterwards didn’t seem to improve, either.
It was no surprise, since Angelica had no interest in studying. Her interests solely lied in journalism and the latest camera.
She had no connections with the geniuses who’d get perfect on tests after reading over the textbook once. She couldn’t understand the way their minds worked and there was no need to.
The same could be said for the international elf student and the Golden-Eyed who had just entered.
She had heard that the Golden-Eyed girl even wrote and published a remarkable paper, but it wasn’t a topic of interest for Angelica who had nothing to do with academics.
For her, it was about exciting and entertaining gossip. It was much more rewarding to cover interesting issues and incidents within the Academy.
It had been the same this time as well.
It didn’t matter what marks the first and second place students, who had entered this year as her juniors, got during midterms and finals. The important thing was the possibility that love may have sprouted between the two...!
“Ugh...!”
Her line of thought was forcefully interrupted. Angelica, who’d been having a sweet dream, held her throbbing head and woke up somewhere.
“This is.......”
It was a dark space covered in iron plates, like some kind of interrogation room for criminals.
Angelica pulled herself up and sat. At the chilling atmosphere, she unconsciously gripped her skirt and folded up her legs.
Where in the world was this place?
“Are you awake?”
“Hiiik...!”
A soft voice like that of a saintess had her head whipping around. There, a pair of gold eyes were glowing softly.
Her shoulders flinched from feeling like she was encountering a lantern ghost in the bamboo forests.
No, it was a Beast rather than ghost. Her breath caught like she was drowning in a sea of fear as if she’d met a Cataclysm.
“It’s me, Aether. There’s no need to be so surprised.”
The faint darkness revealed a black-haired, gold-eyed girl. She let out an ‘ah....’ of relief that it wasn’t a ghost or a Beast.
“W-where is this...?”
“It’s the place that you’ve been dying to write about. You were listening in on my and Horde’s conversation through the wall earlier, no?”
“That’s.......”
Angelica was about to protest, then stopped.
Come to think of it, she didn’t need to make excuses. She did overhear them, so she just had to boldly come forth about it. What would be the point in lying about something that’d quickly be found out?
More importantly.
More importantly......!
“A man and woman regularly came into this tight space together.... So you were having a rendezvous after all!”
It was too obvious given the circumstances.
This content is taken from freeweɓnovel.cѳm.
Anyone other than Angelica would see it as well. A time when no one was around. An affair between a young, passionate man and woman in an exclusive clubroom! It was material that the Literature Club would love to hear about.
Aether and Vermel sighed and shook their heads at what Angelica said. Then they started having a conversation that flowed strangely.
“So it’s like this after all. What should we do now?”
“I already knew from the beginning. These types of people don’t listen no matter what you tell them.”
“And that’s why you suddenly hit her with the staff...?”
“Isn’t it okay because of the damage reduction spell? I talked to Lotte and Freyr so it should be fine.”
“Auhh.”
Hit her with the staff? What did that mean?
“Ughhh...!”
Her head did hurt. To be honest, her memories of the moment before this were a little fuzzy. She did seem to have been hit by some kind of blunt instrument....
Ah, well.
Angelica tilted her head. Aether tsked and scratched her head at the sight. She seemed to have something to say.
“So, Senior. Are you planning to publish the story of us dating or whatsit in the school papers?”
Aether’s eyes glowed faintly even in the dark. Whether it seemed that way because of the atmosphere or the eyes of the Golden-Eyed were actually able to glow in the dark, there was no way to know.
She was a bit scared, honestly.
“... If it’s true.”
“It’s not.”
“No, this is clear evidence! What else would it be when a man and woman meet together in this cramped space at every opportunity if not a rendezvous?”
“This isn’t the kind of meeting you think it is.”
“Then what is it?”
“It’s a conspiracy, not a rendezvous.”
“Conspiracy...? You mean you’re up to something?”
“Yes.”
The two nodded in unison like they had planned beforehand.
“Were you discussing plans for having children...?”
Just like a moment ago, Vermel and Aether let out deep sighs like a leaf rotting away.
“Is it because you could be tried by the committee for dating? Aww, they’ve stopped being strict with those rules for a long time! As long as it doesn’t affect your studies, even the teachers will overlook it so you don’t need to worry...!”
“...... Senior.”
The casual toss of a heavy word.
It belonged to the Golden-Eyed girl.
Angelica’s breath caught. She’d never heard such a sharp, malicious voice. Without exaggerating, she felt like her heart would stop.
“Senior.”
“.......”
“Your response.”
“... Yes?”
Aether continued in a low voice.
“It’s the season of full-body paralysis1.”
What was she saying?
“What.... does that mean......?”
There was a sense of foreboding. She felt like she said something wrong.
“It’s just as I said. The time of high skies and suffering students due to piles of assignments is approaching.”
“What are you.... did you mean to say high skies and heavy steeds?”
“No, Senior. Full-body paralysis is correct.”
Aether released the hands she had folded behind herself. Her left hand held a blunt instrument that seemed to be polished with steel.
No, it wasn’t a blunt instrument.
A staff which was a mage’s incarnation as well as something like another life. It was a giant two-meter staff made of steel.
“Ah....”
There was something she forgot, come to think of it.
This girl was famous for bashing the Second Prince’s head in during their private duel. She had completely forgotten about it because it had happened over half a year ago.
“I have to anesthetize you to use the item. It’s nothing scary so you only need to close your eyes for a moment. Ah, I’m going to use the cross section and not the pointy tip here so you won’t die.”
Her breath quickened. The room was so small that there was nowhere to run. Even if she backed herself into a corner, it would all be within range of the staff.
“Do you have any last words before you lose your memories?”
What should she do?
What should she say?
When the human brain became paralyzed with fear, it clouded their judgment. Angelica quickly put her hands together in a plea.
“Wait, I’m sorr.......”
It was autumn.2
**“I can’t with you...!”
“You’re not wrong, technically.”
“Auhhh....”
For some reason, since beating down the Prince that once, my fist seemed to go out when I met these kinds of people.
Of course, neither time was going to be a big problem. With the duel against the Prince, I had cracked his skull fair and square according to the traditional rules of the Academy so it was okay, and with this, I used a magic that knocked the person unconscious precisely without damaging the skull.
So what were we going to do next, that was the question.
“That looks interesting. Is that the Lantern of the Dead or something?”
“Yeah.”
The Lantern of the Dead.
I instinctively felt it from the name–you lost your memory when you were exposed to the lantern’s light.
I was curious about the principle, but I decided to be patient for now since that wasn’t what was important at the moment.
“They say It only works on unconscious people, right?”
“You don’t want everyone in the world to catch Alzheimer’s if you shove this in the face of anyone going around with eyes open, do you? You still have to handle this carefully, though.”
“Ah, sure, that so.”
Tick, tick. Vermel lit the lantern he had taken from subspace. The dim light shot around like a newly-born Fire Elemental.
“Ten seconds is enough to erase a week’s worth of memories.”
“Then would they become an infant if they bask in it for about half an hour?”
“I don’t know since I haven’t tried.”
The process of lighting and extinguishing were done in a flash. Angelica’s frowning face soon became peaceful. The memory of being hit by me must have disappeared.
“If it weren’t for this, you would’ve been in trouble with Duke Totzfel.”
I gave him a thumbs up in response.
Thanks, transmigrator!
“Hit me up when we get back to Earth, I’ll buy you a drink at least.”
“.......”
In any case, this was one less annoyance to deal with. When Angelica woke up later, I’ll talk to her and pretend this never happened.
“So we don’t need to deal with the Literature Club, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Hmm. But they’re accomplices, too.”
“It’s an event that ends as long as you do something about Angelica.”
“Still, it doesn’t feel right.”
“Leave the future and things like this to me, and you, well.... just stay here. Please.”
I nodded reluctantly.
I wasn’t going to leave Tilette until I learned the rest of the attribute magics except Air Magic, anyway. And since the transmigrator who knew the future was here, there really wasn’t a reason to live elsewhere
“On a different note, I wonder if that Rosemary whatsherface will find out about this.”
“She probably did.”
“No way. You think she’d watch the whole day?”
“That’s how she is.”
Ohh, is that so.
Then if we weren’t careful, we might have another annoying thing to deal with.
