The Master of Beasts-Chapter 718 - 215_2
This was a massive pit, with huge black clouds swirling above. Upon closer inspection, these clouds were actually formed from resentful and yin energy.
Looking down, only about ten meters deep, the pit was densely packed with moving corpses. Although these corpses clearly no longer had any life aura, they continued to wriggle, their mouths opening and closing unconsciously, uttering a series of murmurs.
"Wait, are parts of their flesh missing?"
Truth Listener noticed that parts of the dry corpses' bodies were revealing ghastly white bones. Though their emaciation made it hard to see clearly, it was vaguely discernible that the missing flesh had been gnawed away.
"Hmm? Is there a living person?" Truth Listener was momentarily stunned, then quickly concealed his presence within the black clouds.
"Is it here?"
The speaker was a man without a nose, whose age was indiscernible.
"Cannibalism among one's own, a mass grave, what a magnificent scene!" replied another figure, seemingly lacking ears, yet appearing rather young.
"Wailing sounds"
The ghost babies that had been lingering around Truth Listener suddenly became restless, flying out from the black clouds. Their cooing noise became more urgent, and their eyes, which were originally only faintly glowing red, now shone bright as the red sun.
"Hey, these little things are still here." The earless youth mocked, looking at the ghost babies flying towards him.
The man without a nose waved his large hand, scattering the ghost babies, who had barely reached the True Immortal level, with some displeasure: "I really don't understand why you insist on keeping such disgusting things!"
"They are of great use!" The earless person gently caught a ghost baby fortunate enough to survive, tenderly healing its wounds before tossing it back into the clouds.
"Okay, since there is no problem here, let's go check the altar."
"It's really troublesome; can't it be solved all at once initially?"
"No way around it, such rituals require specific timing!"
"Alright, alright."
After the two left, Truth Listener was about to step out from the clouds when he suddenly paused, retracting his leg.
A quarter of an hour later, the two, who had apparently left, suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"I told you, you're overthinking. Who would come to such a haunted place?" The noseless man mocked.
The earless man shook his head slightly: "Still need to be cautious. After all, we've drawn all the Spiritual Beasts and Ghost Monsters from the mountains for this ritual. Those loose cultivators have probably fled."
"Heh, who would believe what a group of loose cultivators say? The Beisheng Sect was wiped out overnight; would you believe it?"
"Indeed, if it weren't for that, the Beisheng Sect wouldn't have been taken down!"
"Alright, let's head to the altar. Time's running out."
This time, they really left, and Truth Listener thoughtfully stepped out of the clouds.
"Just as the master speculated, there's indeed someone orchestrating things behind the scenes. Who knows which force it is, with people born noseless and earless?"
"They mentioned time running out; it should be referring to the altar. The time for the ritual can't be chosen arbitrarily."
Mumbling to himself, a trace of hesitation appeared on Truth Listener's face. Should he intervene?
Though confident in his own strength, Truth Listener still hesitated slightly, having ventured far from home for the first time.
His ears fluttered slightly, and a hint of astonishment appeared on Truth Listener's face: "Shadow Demon, how are you here!"
After a few leaps to where the Shadow Demon was, Truth Listener asked in bewilderment: "Xiao Ying? Why are you here?"
Xiao Ying, also known as the first Shadow Demon, was also the strongest.
"The master was worried you might encounter trouble while investigating, so sent me to check the situation in advance. Also, to investigate why members of my race mysteriously died."
"I have some intel."
Xiao Ying shook his head: "I've already transmitted the information back. Those noseless and earless ones have been here for days, just wandering around until today when they finally got to the point."
"Ah, then what did the master send me for?" Truth Listener felt a bit unhappy, given that everything had been arranged and then sent him to investigate, wasn't this toying with a beast?
"Of course, to take action!" Xiao Ying replied peculiarly.
As a scout, surely he wouldn't have to let a fragile being like himself take the lead, right?
"Take action?" Truth Listener's neck retracted; those two didn't seem simple at all, and he felt a bit scared!
"Don't worry, the master has already dispatched a large number of Wind God Rocs. If my kin weren't unable to enter this area, you wouldn't even be needed." Xiao Ying comforted.
"That's good then."
Upon hearing about the support, Truth Listener finally relaxed, returning to his proud demeanor.
........
At the altar
The earless person took out large chunks of blackened meat, carving strange runes into each piece with his fingers.
The noseless man continuously tapped on the altar, causing the white bones to start moving slowly. Some even began to speak, producing eerie hollow sounds.
After toiling for a long time, the two finally ceased their actions.
"Not bad."
"Indeed, there's even a touch of spirituality. Truly worthy of a major sect disciple, much stronger than loose cultivators."
"And now....."
"Who!"
Before the word even finished, the earless person sensed something amiss—someone was spying.
Truth Listener stepped lightly out from the darkness, the third eye on his forehead blinking, his tone haughty: "So it was you who were behind the Beisheng Sect incident!"
"A spiritual beast? Truth Listener? No, how can a Truth Listener have a third eye, is it a hybrid?" A trace of doubt appeared on the earless person's face.
"Hybrid?" Truth Listener's three eyes opened widely, cursing furiously: "You're the hybrid, you're the mutt!"
"Why so much nonsense? Just kill it, finish early and head back. I don't like this damn place!"
"Fine!"
"Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh"
Just as they were about to act, a sudden strong wind stirred, shifting the black fog and causing a flurry of sand and rocks to blur their vision.
Upon reopening their eyes, they saw a handsome young man sitting cross-legged on a flying spiritual beast, looking down at them.
The noseless man swallowed hard, trembling slightly: "Isn't this an exaggeration, since when are Heavenly Immortal Spiritual Beasts so cheap?"
Surrounding them and above were numerous agile Wind God Rocs, the cyan wind swirling fiercely, clearing a path in this region.
"City Lord of Star Moon City, Chen Jiuge!" The earless person spoke in a heavy tone.
"Hmm? You actually know me? It seems you didn't just come to the Golden Desert on a whim. Will you act on your own? Or do you want me to strike?" Chen Jiuge spoke indifferently.
At this level, Chen Jiuge no longer needed to act personally, as the number and quality of spiritual beasts under him continued to grow.
After surveying the surroundings, the earless person focused his gaze on the ground.
"Boom"
A clumsy snake head darted out from the ground, followed by a second, a third......
"Whew, it seems we can't escape now!" The earless person abandoned the last glimmer of hope.
"Then let's perish together with them!" The noseless man shouted angrily, ready to activate the altar.
"Clatter, clatter"
The seemingly unbreakable altar quickly collapsed in the hands of several odd-looking Barrier Beasts.
A skull rolled to the noseless man's feet, its hollow eye sockets staring at him, its wide-open mouth seemingly mocking his overestimation.
"Not giving us a chance to breathe, we surrender!" The earless person raised both hands intelligently.
"Truth Listener, I'll leave them to you!"
"Rest assured, no problem!"
Two cyan-golden halos flew out from Truth Listener's mouth, mysterious runes emerging from his third eye, reinforcing the halos.
Securely bound, the two exchanged a helpless glance, realizing the strength of the halos, resigning to their fate.
"Xiao Ying, take me back directly. Truth Listener, I'll leave some Wind God Rocs for you, quickly escort them to the city, and hand them over to Black Eye then."
"As you command!"
Watching Chen Jiuge leave, Truth Listener looked at the miserable pair, shaking his head and said: "Behave yourself, I don't want to get rough!"
The noseless man's mouth twitched, somewhat unwilling to see Truth Listener's arrogant expression.
"Looks like you're quite dissatisfied, Bird Brother, give him a taste of the drop ride!"
Though the Wind God Roc cast a somewhat speechless glance at Truth Listener, it did not refuse. Having some understanding of Truth Listener's strength, the Wind God Roc knew such a trivial matter shouldn't be fussed over.
Otherwise, being remembered by this petty guy wouldn't be a pleasant thing!
"Off we go!"
Amidst their screams, Truth Listener swaggered off in the direction of Star Moon City.
