The Master Programmer-Chapter 145: Samantha in Trouble 2
— Meanwhile, back at Emily’s, right outside Grayson Apartments —
Jason Cross stepped out of the black car and onto the streets, his phone in hand. As the car drove off, Jason smirked. This morning had been pretty good. And something told him his day would only get better from here. The notification on his blue panel brought a faint smile to his lips.

He’d completed his latest mission, his influence expanding further. The [Emperor’s Gaze], had worked flawlessly once again. It turned that idiot Tim into an even bigger idiot. But still, Jason was a bit annoyed. Jason had been spending too much of his MC recently on purchasing items, but he figured those were worthy purchases.
If there was one thing that might be a bit annoying... The Cross family would know that Jason was the last man Tim had seen before he went crazy.
He had to make some preparations before then.
As he walked down the street going to his car, his thoughts drifted to the events of the past few days. Samantha’s defiance, Emily’s unwavering affection, and the ever-present threat of his enemies. His path was fraught with challenges, but he thrived on the struggle.
Jason got in his car and drove off, his car making everyone’s head turn. Wow, that was a sexy car.
Jason Cross soon strode into the sleek, modern lobby of Reno Ventures, his tailored suit hugging his frame with effortless precision. The buzz of fluorescent lights hummed faintly over the low murmur of employees. Yet today, something was different…
A sombre cloud seemed to hang over the office as if an unseen hand had pressed pause on the usual hum of corporate ambition. Something was happening here. Jason could see it all from the uncertain expression on everyone’s faces.
He immediately knew that something was wrong.
Jason’s sharp eyes scanned the room, landing on Mia at her usual post behind the reception desk. Her wavy brown hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her fitted blouse hinted at the curves she tried, and often failed, to keep professional. As soon as her eyes met his, she straightened, a nervous smile flickering across her lips.
Jason leaned in, his cologne making her head tilt slightly in his direction. "Hello, you," he said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to touch a nerve deep inside her. Mia turned to Jason, looking around in a slight nervousness.
Mia chuckled, trying to keep her composure. "Hello, Jason."
Jason smirked, looking around just as she did before, this time, making sure to d it intently. "What’s going on here? Everyone looks like they just lost a promotion."
Mia glanced around, then leaned closer. "Word’s out about the split from Ellis Corporation. People think layoffs are coming. Clients are already jumping ship. There’s panic in the air. Rumours are spreading, everyone thinks it’s the end of the world…"
Mia said this and then turned back to Jason. "But you are… as confident and impressive as ever."
Jason nodded thoughtfully. "Thanks for the insight," he murmured, his lips curving into a knowing smile. "And the compliment."
As he turned to leave, Mia’s tentative voice stopped him. "Coffee at lunchtime?"
Jason glanced over his shoulder, smirking. "We’ll see," he replied, leaving her to wonder if he meant it.
Again, he would bring some excitement into her life. He wondered how she truly felt. She had never asked for a date or anything serious. It seemed she just loved the sex. And yet… Jason knew that with women, it was different. They could not separate emotions from sex. So if they were having this much sex, then it was impossible for her to feel something.
How would he deal with the situation if it ever got to that point?
Jason made his way to the executive suite, his steps echoing in the corridor. The frosted glass door bearing Samantha Ellis’s name stood slightly ajar.
Hello Samantha. I’m here to see you again.
Jason stepped inside, closing it softly behind him. Samantha sat behind her expansive desk, her head resting in one hand as she sighed deeply. Her tailored blazer framed her figure perfectly, her sharp bob swaying slightly as she looked up at him with piercing blue eyes.
"Jason," she started, her voice laced with a mix of exasperation and intrigue. "If you’ve been playing me this whole time… You can stop now. I get it. I... You wanted to ruin me, right? You came into my life to ruin everything I worked so hard for?"
Jason cut her off, holding a finger to his lips as he moved behind her chair. "Shh," he whispered, his hands resting lightly on her shoulders as he began kneading. He loved how she let him do this without even questioning it now. He would reward her for her trust.
"The $16 million is already on its way. Check your accounts."
Samantha’s breath hitched and when Jason felt the tension, he began chuckling. She swivelled to her computer, leaving Jason scrambling for her shoulders. But she was already ompletely focused, her fingers flying over the keyboard. Her screen lit up with the confirmation.
There was money coming into her company’s accounts, but it was being delayed slightly due to interbank fees and regulations. Right then she relaxed immediately, feeling her weight leave her entire body. The tension in her shoulders melted away, replaced by a glimmer of relief and… admiration.
She turned to him, her lips curving into a small, genuine smile. "You’re full of surprises," she murmured. Jason also had a smirk on his face, having rarely seen her look so emotional before. Well, she was emotional at times, but those times were a bit heated. Now she looked so sad and stressed before, and here she was, looking so relieved...
Something must have happened in her personal life. He figured it had a lot to do with her father, family or her lovely fiance, James Carter. This was why he had come over to the position behind her so quickly and began massaging her shoulders. To reassure her with his touch, and to make sure she knew he was around. She might just associate these good feelings she was feeling with Jason’s touch from now on.
Jason perched on the edge of her desk, his gaze locked onto hers. "And as the company’s major shareholder, I expect to see you working your ass off to make this place thrive. This is not some charity or anything. This is an investment. You understand that, do you not?"
Samantha arched an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at her lips. She was being ordered around now? "I’ll work my ass off if you do the same."
Jason held up two fingers. "Scout’s honor. I’ll make Reno Ventures a $100 million company within months. It won’t take long, after all, look what I have for you here,"
As Jason said that he took out a portfolio, sliding it towards her.
Samantha’s smirk deepened. "Bold words, Mr. Cross. Let’s see if you can back them up." Jason said nothing. He merely watched as she opened it up and in only a few moments, her face changed.
"This is… what the hell is this? This is incredible. Jason, did you manage to get the portfolio from the Kissinger family? And you made sure to also get them to agree to a contract that would link Reno Ventures and them in a cooperative agreement? How did you manage that?"
Jason looked at her as she began shaking, and he smirked in interest. She was so cute when she was behaving like this. He somehow felt like he wouldn’t mind seeing her like this even more often. Seeing this genuine relieved smile and excitement, he would love to bring it into her life.
Samantha turned to Jason, expecting him to start yapping on and on and bragging about how he had tricked the Kissinger Family, but Jason merely chuckled, standing to leave without saying anything else.
But as he turned, Samantha stood and approached him, her heels clicking softly against the hardwood floor. She stopped him from leaving and held him in place, and Jaso found the gesture a bit interesting, letting himself be held back like that.
Samantha looked up into his eyes, smiling at him. She adjusted his tie with deliberate slowness, her fingers brushing against his chest ever so slowly as she did. Jason smirked. This was the second time his tie was getting adjusted on this day.
It was official now. He might be a man whore.
"You smell like another woman," she said, her voice dropping to a husky whisper. "Not Veronica this time?"
Jason’s lips twitched. "No. Another one of my women like you. Sweet girl. You’ll meet her one day."
Samantha’s expression hardened for a brief moment as she pinched his nipple. "When did I become one of your women?" she asked, her tone icy.
Jason’s smirk turned predatory. "Too late to escape now," he murmured, pulling her into a deep, commanding kiss. Samantha froze, then melted into the kiss, her fingers clutching his lapel. When they parted, she was breathless, her composure shaken.
"I’ll see you later," he said, leaving her standing there, conflicted yet intrigued. Jason Cross. 16 million just like that. And the way you took it out... It was as if it was nothing to you. Just how many secrets are you hiding?
Jason walked to his office, his mind racing with plans. Samantha’s parting words about spies lingered in his thoughts. If there were moles in the company, they had to be dealt with swiftly.
He sat at his desk, tapping his pen against his chin. His instincts pointed to a certain pencil-skirted assistant who had always been too eager to linger near sensitive discussions. She would expose herself soon enough, Jason mused. All he had to do was set the trap.
As he plotted, his phone buzzed. A message from Marcus. When Jason read it, his eyebrows shot up and a smile came to his face...
