Chapter 221: A Husband in Disguise

As Edmund had promised, he woke her up before noon, specifically at nine in the morning.

It was actually the perfect time because Primrose needed quite a while to choose what outfit she would wear and to get ready.

Since it would be the first time Primrose dressed up again after days of neglecting her appearance, she felt so excited and couldn’t even contain her happiness.

"Eat your breakfast first," Edmund said as he helped her sit up on the bed, placing a small table in front of her.

The breakfast wasn’t anything too fancy, just a few slices of bread, some roasted meat, and a bowl of warm corn soup. But it was more than enough to make Primrose smile as she ate.

"I’ve asked Marielle and Lady Solene to come around half past eight," Edmund said. "Does that work for you? Or would you rather they come earlier or later?"

Primrose giggled. "Half past eight sounds perfect to me," she replied with a bright smile. "Thank you for taking care of it for me, husband."

Edmund had even cleaned her body thoroughly while she was asleep, so Primrose only needed to freshen up briefly after this.

"This is your first time going to the capital." Edmund sat beside her, watching her closely as she munched on the bread. "So, I just want you to enjoy yourself without worrying about anything else."

Now that he mentioned it, Primrose suddenly realized that she had never actually set foot in the capital since living in Noctvaris.

She had only passed through the capital when she first came to the palace, but she had never walked around the city streets. Even in her first life, she never strolled there, because what was the point?

Back then, she was afraid the beasts would throw rotten apples at her if she tried walking around the capital.

Yes, it sounded silly now, but at the time, she didn’t know the beastfolk well at all, and her awkward husband hadn’t been much help either.

"You said you could change your appearance," Primrose said, changing the subject as she remembered something important. "What do you want to change into?"

Edmund said, "Like I said before, I can’t change completely, but I can alter a few features of my body like my hair color, eye color, skin tone, and height. Maybe some of my facial features, but not much."

Primrose’s eyes sparkled. "Can you show me?"

She looked so excited that Edmund didn’t have the heart to turn down her request.

"Alright," he said, patting her head gently. "Maybe you can help me choose my new appearance."

Primrose put down whatever food she was holding and turned her full attention to her husband. She didn’t even blink and kept smiling, which made Edmund feel a little flustered.

He cleared his throat, trying to shake off the awkwardness between them. "Alright then, I’ll begin."

Primrose thought her husband would use some kind of spell or summon a dark mist that that would go boom, and when the smoke cleared, her husband would be standing there, completely transformed.

But to her surprise, Edmund didn’t use any magic. There was no flash, no fog, no dramatic mist.

He didn’t even say a word or make any grand gestures,

He just stood there, but his body gradually began to change in a way that was actually kind of disturbing.

His bones creaked as he adjusted his height. His facial features shifted slightly, one after another. It wasn’t flashy, but it was unsettling.

The smile on Primrose’s face slowly faded, replaced by a look of horror in her eyes, as if she was watching a nightmare unfold in front of her eyes.

Thankfully, he didn’t change his hair or eye color in some creepy, unnatural way. Primrose had actually half-expected him to go bald and grow a brand new head of hair in a matter of seconds.

But thank goodness ... he didn’t.

He didn’t have to shave his entire head or, worse, pull out his eyeballs. The colors simply shifted slowly and naturally.

[Why is my wife making that kind of face?] Edmund panicked in his head. [Damn it. Did I just scare my wife? Was that transformation too weird for her?]

[No, no, no. It’d still be fine if she were just scared, but what if she ends up traumatized? Oh no.]

His transformation really was strange and, admittedly, a bit frightening. But fortunately, Primrose hadn’t reached the point of being traumatized.

It was still her husband, after all.

Primrose quickly fixed her expression, trying to act normal. And just a moment later, Edmund finished transforming.

He looked different from his real appearance, not completely different, but still unrecognizable enough that it would be hard to identify him as Edmund.

He had made himself shorter, since his real height tended to draw attention. Now he stood around 1.8 meters tall. Still tall, but compared to his original height, it was a big difference.

His facial features hadn’t changed much, maybe just the shape of his nose. But for Primrose, who was used to seeing his face up close, it was still easy to tell it was him.

"D-Did I scare you?" Edmund asked carefully when she still hadn’t said a word.

His voice finally snapped her out of it. She blinked a few times, then started clapping slowly and then faster.

A smile returned to her face. "No, I was just surprised!" she said, her voice full of excitement. "This is amazing! If I didn’t see your real face so often, I wouldn’t recognize you at all."

She hopped off the bed and stood in front of him. "Look! My head reaches your nose now!"

She giggled, absolutely delighted that she could finally kiss her husband without asking him to bend down.

"Do you think I look alright like this?" Edmund asked, a little unsure.

Primrose held her chin as she tilted her head slightly. Her eyes studied Edmund’s now-blonde hair and his green eyes.

She scratched her cheek and laughed awkwardly. "Well, this is just my personal taste ..." she said softly. "But honestly ... I’m not really a fan of blondes."

No, truthfully, Primrose hated blondes with all her heart.
