Chapter 53: Chapter 53 Fight or Flee

The zombies started to increase, surrounding him. π™§π™šπ™šπ”€π’†π“«π“·π™€π“Ώπ’†π™‘.𝒄𝙀𝓢

’This is bad!’ Sylas thought and immediately planned to get out of the encirclement.

No matter how strong Sylas was, he would not be able to fight against the never-ending army of zombies. Moreover, the high-level zombie was upgrading its strength.

Making up his mind, Sylas began to manipulate his spatial energy around his body.

Everything that came near him within a meter was immediately cut down by the spatial blade. This move consumed more energy, and his energy was depleting quickly. But Sylas had no choice.

He immediately rushed out of the encirclement. His speed was so fast that before the zombies could react, he had already disappeared from the spot. Several mutilated zombie bodies caused by the spatial blade were the only things left at the place where he had been standing and along the path he took.

Sylas immediately retracted his spatial energy and concentrated on his speed after he got out of the zombie encirclement. The zombies he left behind couldn’t catch up with him.

Sylas didn’t encounter any zombies on the way.

Within a few minutes, he reached the gas station. When he arrived, the zombies there had already been dealt with.

"Sylas!" Serena exclaimed. She had already sensed him from afar.

"You are back? What was that?"

"Did you find out?"

"Are you okay?"

Dylan, Major Kyle, Shaun, Leo, and the others immediately started asking questions at the same time as soon as they saw Sylas. But Sylas was not in the mood to answer their questions. He headed straight toward the car.

"Let’s leave immediately. Everyone, hurry!" Sylas said as he got inside the car.

Sensing the urgency, they didn’t question or doubt Sylas. Everyone quickly got inside the car and started the engine. Without wasting time, the car sped off.

"What’s going on?" Once inside the moving car, Major Kyle immediately asked. Inside the off-road military vehicle Sylas was in, Shaun was driving, while Dylan, Leo, and Major Kyle were seated inside.

All of them perked up their ears.

"That figure was a zombie, and not just any zombie, but a high-level one. It can control and command other lower-level zombies. That high-level zombie has gathered all the zombies in one place, forming an army of zombies," Sylas said with his eyes closed.

"What?" Dylan exclaimed in shock.

"A high-level zombie has emerged? My God!" Shaun, who was driving, almost stepped on the brake.

"No wonder we didn’t encounter zombies in the red zones," Leo said, still in shock.

"An ability to control and command lower-level zombies?" Major Kyle muttered with a frown.

Sylas told them everything he had witnessed, only hiding the part where he killed two zombies and took their energy stones.

"The zombies have formed energy stones?" Major Kyle’s eyes widened in shock.

Sylas nodded and replied, "Although I only saw it from afar, they were indeed energy stones. I saw the high-level zombie directly eating other zombies’ energy stones to upgrade its strength."

"Just like us, they can upgrade their strength too by consuming energy stones!" Dylan’s shocked voice sounded inside the car.

"Consider this a prelude. The main show is yet to come," Sylas said.

"Is that why you ran away?" Leo asked.

Sylas opened his eyes and smirked. "I’m not the only one running away. We all are running away from this town."

"What do you mean?" Major Kyle asked, sitting straight up.

"The high-level zombie is upgrading its strength, and it will only get stronger. Moreover, it can control lower-level zombies. If I’m not wrong, normal zombies get stronger slowly by eating human brains, and when they develop energy stones, the high-level zombie consumes those energy stones to strengthen itself. So, it needs human brains to strengthen lower-level zombies so they can develop energy stones. And where can it find many humans for lower-level zombies?" Sylas said, raising his brows.

"The safe zone," Major Kyle said, his breath almost stopping.

"Heavens!" Leo exclaimed.

"Oh my god!" Dylan uttered.

"What are we going to do?" Shaun asked.

"It’s either fight or run away," Sylas said, holding his temple.

It wouldn’t be a problem for awakened humans to escape, but what about the normal humans in the safe zone? They couldn’t just leave them to become food for the zombies. Moreover, the zombies would get stronger, which was the last thing they wanted to see.

"But how are we going to fight an army of zombies? We don’t have enough manpower," Leo said.

"We only have hand grenades and two light rocket weapons. But we don’t have many rockets in stock for the light rocket weapons. We have two launchers, but only five rockets. Moreover, our bullets are running out too," Major Kyle explained with a grave expression.

"We don’t have enough ammunition to fight an army of zombies, not to mention that it’s being led by a high-level zombie with strength and intelligence higher than the rest of the zombies," Shaun added.

Sylas already knew that the safe zone established by the military wouldn’t last long. Without a supply of food and ammunition, how long could a safe zone survive? The military itself wouldn’t last long without a supply chain. With the outbreak of the apocalypse, the supply chain had broken, and with only consumption and no production, everything would start to fall apart. The real nightmare would begin then.

"What are we going to do then?" Leo asked in a hoarse voice.

Major Kyle covered his face with his palms, and after a minute, he said, "The high-level zombie will definitely lead the army of zombies to attack the safe zone. Even though we have many people in the safe zone, those who can really fight are limited. Apart from soldiers, awakened humans, and a few civilians who can fight and use guns, the rest all need protection. We lack manpower, and we really can’t hold our fort against an army of zombies. So, the only option left for us is to abandon the safe zone and flee."
