The Only Spatial Ability User In The Apocalypse-Chapter 79 Defeat
Crack! Crack!
The sound spread like dry bones breaking. Small chunks of cement rained down.
The crack beneath the bridge widened another inch.
Sylas’ pupils shrank as he realized, ’It’s tearing the bridge apart.’
Above, Major Kyle shouted, "End it fast!"
More vines burst out of the crack. Not dozens but hundreds of vines shot out. They poured out like a flood of green serpents, writhing and twisting in the air. Some attacked Sylas directly. Some lashed at the railing. Some tried to coil around the support pillars beneath the bridge.
The entire structure trembled faintly.
Sylas steadied his breathing as he hung midair.
No foothold, bad position, and his energy was draining.
A thick vine lashed toward his face.
Bang!
It slammed into his space barrier. The space barrier trembled violently from the impact. Another vine struck from the left. Then another from below.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The impacts from the vine attacks shook him like a rag doll hanging in midair.
Serena’s arms shook, green light flickering as she reinforced the vines holding Sylas.
If the plant succeeded in snapping those vines, Sylas would fall straight into the river, and below, dark water churned slowly.
Who knew what waited inside the river?
Sylas exhaled slowly, and he raised his hand. Space energy compressed rapidly in his palm. It was denser and sharper.
A compressed spatial blade formed, thinner than a leaf but filled with terrifying cutting power.
A thick vine lunged.
Shua!
The blade shot forward, and the vine was severed cleanly. Green sap splattered onto the concrete. But the moment one vine fell, two more replaced it.
Fast, it was too fast.
The plant was stalling him and wearing him down. Sylas’ eyes flicked toward the crack. It had widened to almost a meter, and the cement around it was crumbling. The main body of the mutated plant was still deep inside, hiding.
’Coward,’ Sylas cursed under his breath.
Another barrage came. Four thick vines attacked together.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Sylas expanded his space barrier to a full sphere again. The impact shook him violently, making his chest feel tight.
His energy consumption soared, and he could not keep this up.
Above, Evin shouted, "It’s spreading to the pillars!"
Sylas glanced sideways and saw several vines had wrapped around a support pillar beneath the bridge. They tightened slowly.
Crack...
Fine fractures appeared along the pillar surface. It was attacking the foundation, and if this continued, the whole bridge could collapse.
Sylas’ jaw tightened.
’You want to destroy the bridge? Let’s see if you survive first,’ Sylas muttered as he narrowed his eyes.
He waited.
He did not attack, did not waste energy, and simply defended. The vines slammed repeatedly against his space barrier. The people from above were also helping him deal with the vines.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He let it hit, let it grow bolder, and let it expose more of itself. The crack widened further, and more vines surged out at once. They were thicker, longer, and darker, and deep inside the crack, Sylas caught a glimpse of the main stem. It was thicker than a human thigh. Dark green, almost black. It pulsed faintly.
That was the main body of the mutated plant.
Another violent impact shook him. The thickest vine slammed into his space barrier, and it rippled violently.
’Time to end it,’ Sylas thought as he locked his eyes on the main body of the mutated plant.
Two compressed spatial blades formed at once. One in each hand. He waited for the next attack. The thick vine lunged straight at him again.
Sylas dispersed the barrier in front of him and shot forward instead of backward.
Serena gasped above.
He moved with the momentum of the vine’s strike, closing the distance. The thick vine almost touched him.
Shua!
Both compressed spatial blades crossed in an X shape.
The thick vine split into four pieces. Before the plant could retract, Sylas thrust one hand directly toward the crack. Another compressed spatial blade, more condensed than before, shot straight into the crack.
A shrill vibration echoed beneath the bridge as the blade hit something inside. Green liquid sprayed outward.
But this attack wasn’t enough. The main body jerked deeper into the concrete shelter. The crack widened suddenly.
Boom!
A surge of force exploded outward. Three enormous vines burst out together, each thicker than the previous ones.
They did not attack blindly. One aimed at Sylas, and two aimed directly at the vines binding him to Serena.
’Smart, very smart,’ Sylas thought as he immediately expanded his spatial barrier again.
Slam!
The first vine hit the barrier head-on, and the impact forced him backward violently.
At the same time...
Crack!
One of Serena’s vines snapped partially under the second vine’s strike.
"Ah!" Serena cried out.
The last vine coiled around Serena’s vine, trying to twist and snap it fully.
Sylas’ eyes turned icy, and he focused purely on defense. The space barrier thickened as he reinforced it.
Slam! Slam! Slam!
The three giant vines hammered relentlessly. The barrier vibrated violently, and fine cracks appeared on its surface. Sylas’ breathing became ragged. He had one chance, and he couldn’t afford to lose.
The bridge might fall, and everyone above would be in danger if he lost.
He stared into the crack through the violent movement. Through the chaos, he locked onto the pulsing stem inside.
That was the main body!
"Spatial rift," he muttered under his breath.
Space around his right hand began to distort. The air itself warped slightly. The plant seemed to sense danger, and all the vines froze for half a heartbeat.
Then... they went mad. Every vine surged simultaneously, trying to crush him before he could finish.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The barrier shuddered under the pressure.
Above, Evin and the others unleashed everything they had: ice blades, water blades, fire, earth. But the thick vines ignored them. They were all focused on Sylas.
Sylas’ vision blurred slightly as his energy drained rapidly. The spatial distortion in his palm intensified. A thin, black line appeared in midair like a tear in cloth. It was unstable and violent.
The plant lashed again, aiming directly at his head. The space barrier flickered, almost gone due to the rapid depletion of energy.
Dylan shouted in a desperate tone, "Sylas!"
Sylas opened his eyes wide. The black line expanded slightly, and space split open. A narrow spatial rift formed, and without hesitation, Sylas thrust his hand forward.
The spatial rift shot straight into the crack. The vines halted midair, and for a split second, everything froze.
Then, inside the crack, something was cut. Not sliced, not severed like a vine, but erased across space itself. A deep, tearing vibration echoed from within the concrete. The main stem convulsed violently. Green sap burst outward like a fountain. The enormous vines stiffened, and then they trembled wildly.
Sylas maintained the rift, pushing it deeper. He was very careful not to let the spatial rift damage or swallow the bridge. One small mistake and the whole bridge would collapse. His control over the spatial rift seemed to be improving with each use, but it was very hard for him to maintain it.
The crack exploded wider as the spatial rift carved through everything in its path. Concrete shattered, and the hidden stem inside was fully exposed.
It was grotesque, a swollen knotted mass of plant flesh, pulsating faintly. And the spatial rift ran straight through its center. The plant tried to retract and tried to shrink back, but it was too late.
The rift expanded slightly, and the stem split cleanly in half. From the middle, a green energy stone rolled out, almost falling into the river. Sylas immediately locked his senses on the energy stone and stored it inside his space.
The black tear closed instantly. Sylas could no longer maintain it.
Then... all vines lost strength at once. They dropped limp. Some fell into the river, and some hung lifelessly from the bridge. The thick vines coiled weakly before going still.
The crack stopped expanding, and Sylas’ space barrier disappeared. He hung there, breathing heavily. His energy was drained.
Above, Serena and Dylan quickly pulled him up. Once he reached the railing, Dylan grabbed his arm and hauled him over. Sylas collapsed onto one knee on the bridge surface. His chest rose and fell sharply.
Below, pieces of dead vine floated in the river.
Major Kyle approached slowly, scanning the surroundings.
Evin exhaled loudly. "It’s dead... right?"
"It’s dead," Sylas replied in a low voice.
Relief spread across the group. Some sat down directly where they stood. Others leaned against the railing, exhausted.
They could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The bridge still had cracks, but it was not completely damaged.
Using a spatial rift consumed far more energy than compressed blades.
But it was worth it. If he had dragged the fight any longer, the bridge would have fallen.
And the river below would have swallowed more than just him.
