Dudu's scream finally stopped. He looked pale, and his small body wobbled before collapsing backward onto the seat.

Sylas had just spread out his senses when he suddenly snapped his eyes wide open and immediately got up.

His brows furrowed.

"What is it?" Serena asked when she saw Sylas' actions.

"I felt something," Sylas said, his expression turning serious.

A faint but familiar ripple of sound had reached his senses. Without hesitation, Sylas turned toward the direction of the parked cars.

"Something happened," Sylas said, and he vanished instantly from the spot. His speed was very fast.

Major Kyle and the others immediately followed behind him. Since Sylas was heading toward the cars, they immediately understood that something might have happened there.

Within seconds, Sylas appeared near the parked vehicles. His eyes instantly scanned the scene. Three enormous green snake corpses lay sprawled on the ground. One soldier was injured and bleeding. The rest were pale and shaken.

"What happened?" Major Kyle arrived right behind him.

"Snakes… mutated snakes attacked…"

Sylas' gaze shifted as he sensed faint residual sound energy lingering in the air. His eyes narrowed slightly, and then he looked toward the car.

Through the window, he saw Dudu lying unconscious on the seat. Sylas immediately rushed toward the car door and opened it gently.

He placed his hand near Dudu and carefully sensed him. His energy was depleted, but thankfully, nothing had happened to him.

"He used his ability," Sylas said calmly.

Major Kyle immediately understood.

The soldiers exchanged stunned looks and said, "That kid… he saved us…"

If not for Dudu, several of them would already be dead. Sylas stood up and looked toward the forest. His senses expanded outward, sensing any danger nearby.

"You did well," Sylas murmured softly, though Dudu was unconscious and couldn't hear him.

Leo immediately went toward the injured soldier and healed him.

"Is he okay?" Serena rushed toward Sylas, who was holding Dudu.

Sylas nodded and replied, "He is fine. It's just that he doesn't know how to use his ability properly and overexerted it at one go. That's why he fell unconscious."

The mutated snakes were not that strong, but for normal humans, even low-level mutated creatures were a great threat to them.

After helping the injured soldier, Leo also checked on Dudu. After confirming that he was okay, Leo breathed a sigh of relief.

After learning that the ability users had defeated the mutated plants, all the soldiers and survivors who were frightened by the snakes instantly lifted up their mood.

Everyone took turns guarding Shuan as he repaired the bridge.

Sylas held Dudu in his arms and rested inside one of the cars. It was midnight, and since Sylas hadn't slept the other night, his eyelids were heavy. He could go on without sleep for several days, but since it was a rare peaceful night, he chose to rest.

The rest of the night was uneventful, and Sylas woke up the next day when the sunlight hit his face through the car's window.

At the same time, Dudu also woke up, rubbing his eyes. Seeing Sylas, he immediately clutched Sylas' clothes tightly in his hands and said, "Brother, snakes... bad snakes."

Dudu's eyes were watery and had a scared expression on his face.

"Don't worry, there are no more bad snakes. Our Dudu is so brave. He killed all the bad snakes," Sylas said as he took out a carton of milk from his space and handed it to Dudu.

"Really!" Dudu asked.

"Yes, so don't be afraid. Come on, drink this milk, and you will become even stronger," Sylas coaxed him as he put the straw in the milk carton.

Knock! Knock!

Dylan knocked on the car's window.

Sylas immediately opened the car door and got out. "What is it?" he asked Dylan.

Dylan held a piece of bread in his hand and said, "Major is calling you."

Sylas immediately thought of the energy stone. It was very chaotic last night; he completely forgot about it. He touched his pocket and felt the energy stone.

Sylas turned to Dudu and said, "Obediently sit here and finish the milk and bread, okay?"

Taking the bread from Sylas, Dudu obediently nodded his head at Sylas.

"Look after him," Sylas said to Dylan and headed toward Major Kyle.

"Major, did you call for me?" Sylas asked when he saw Major Kyle sitting in a foldable chair ahead.

"Sylas, come. Have something first," Major Kyle said.

Sylas sat down next to him. "Major, you are even carrying foldable chairs with you?"

Sylas was amused.

"It was in the truck," Major Kyle said as he handed a piece of bread to Sylas.

Sylas accepted the bread from Major Kyle, although he had some in his space.

Taking out the energy stone from his pocket, Sylas handed it to Major Kyle and said, "This is the only energy stone I was able to get my hands on. The other two, one fell into the river and the other was consumed by my spatial rift."

Major Kyle didn't doubt Sylas. "It has been hard on you. Sylas, I feel that these energy stones will be useful to you in the future to exchange resources with others. So, I won't take it from you. Since you obtained it, you should keep it yourself and decide what to do with it."

Sylas was surprised by Major Kyle's words, but it made sense too. Judging from the current situation, the energy stones would soon become a replacement for money.

But Sylas was not greedy enough to monopolize all the energy stones, so he shook his head and said to Major Kyle, "The mutated plant wasn't killed by me alone; it was the result of the combined efforts of all of us. So, it would not be good for me to take it."

Seeing the energy stone back in his hand, Major Kyle nodded his head and said, "Then, I will give this to Serena. Since she is a plant ability user, it will be useful to her."

Sylas had no objections to it.

As they were talking, Sylas immediately frowned and looked toward the forest.

He immediately spread out his sense toward the forest.

Sensing the energy surging out from Sylas, Major Kyle immediately went alert and asked Sylas, "What happened?"

Sylas narrowed his eyes and got up. "Major, you guard here with the others. Don't come inside the forest."

After saying that, Sylas immediately disappeared from Major Kyle's side.

Seeing Sylas disappearing from the road, everyone immediately went alert.

"What happened?" Serena asked.

Dylan immediately stood in front of Dudu in a protective stance.

"Everyone stay alert. There is something in the forest," Major Kyle said as he worriedly looked in the direction where Sylas had disappeared.

Inside the forest, Sylas narrowed his eyes and headed straight toward a certain direction.

He could hear the sound of hissing coming from that direction.

Hiss!

Snake. Sylas sensed a very strong mutated snake in the forest. It was far stronger than the three snakes Dudu had killed last night.

'A high-level mutated snake, a very strong one,' Sylas thought.

The snake was heading toward them, so he planned to deal with it before it stepped onto the road.

Shua!

Sylas saw a huge python slithering toward him inside the forest.

The snake was silver in color; its scales were gleaming in the sunlight. Two horns protruded out from its head, and its eyes with vertical pupils glared at Sylas as it hissed at him, who was blocking its way.

Hiss!

The snake hissed at Sylas and swung its tail toward him.

Sylas immediately dodged the snake's tail. Space energy surged out from his body, and spatial blades rushed out, aiming at the snake.

The snake twisted its body, and its two sharp fangs aimed at Sylas as it lunged at him.

Clang!

The spatial blades hit the snake's body, but they didn't do any damage to it. The snake was unharmed.

'The scales... so strong!' Sylas thought as he raised a space barrier around him.

The huge python slammed into Sylas's space barrier with a bang.

Sylas was pushed back several meters.

The snake twisted its body, and its tail started thrashing around wildly. The trees and plants nearby were uprooted and damaged.

Sylas condensed a compressed spatial blade and sent it toward the snake. The snake was very fast; it immediately sensed the danger from the compressed spatial blade and dodged it. But it was not able to dodge it fully, and the tip of its right horn was cut off cleanly by the compressed spatial blade.

Hiss!

The snake immediately went wild. It was angry at Sylas. Its towering body rose up into the air as it looked down at Sylas. Its tail was swinging left and right, and its eyes were fixed on Sylas.

Sylas stood alert, facing the snake.

The snake suddenly opened its mouth wide and then...

Splurt!

A green liquid splurted out from its mouth, aimed straight at Sylas.

A/N: A wildfire broke out just below where I'm staying tonight. The whole mountainside was on fire. It scared me to death. I was sitting on pins and needles while trying to write this chapter. Thankfully, it was put out before it reached the houses.

Phew.
