Chapter 86: The Count’s Convoy Returns. Part-3.

But of course, that monster was not such an idiot that it would let itself be fooled like that.

The moment the Pathwalker started lifting the count’s carriage to escape, the monster entirely ignored the group of soldiers left behind to keep it busy and instead started charging straight towards the luxurious carriage!

"F*ck! That d*mned monster is coming this way! Protect the count’s carriage!"

The commander immediately brought out his sword from its sheath and took his stance before swinging it midair toward the direction of the charging elephant!

[Imperial Sword Art: Tornado Wind: Compressed Wind Blade!]

Using his powers as a Pathwalker, the commander swung his sword and produced an invisible arc in the air made of compressed air and launched it towards the giant elephant monster!

The water in the swamp, the ground beneath it, and the air, everything seemed like it was sliced in two as the powerful wind blade tore through everything and hit the monster straight on its head!

*BOOOM!!!!*

"OOOOIEEUUUUUUUU!!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! OIIIIIIEEUUUU!!!!!"

A massive, shallow cut appeared on the monster’s humanoid face as it started screaming loudly!

Its screams were so uncomfortable to hear and so loud that some of the soldiers that were standing close to it had their eardrums blown apart, and blood started flowing from their ears!

The monster swung its massive horn-like trunk around and blew away the soldiers who were standing nearby!

"OOOOIUUUUUEEEEE!!!!"

Screaming loudly, the monster suddenly jumped, which should have been impossible for an elephant to do!

*Creak!!!* *Creak!!!*

Loud voices of bones cracking and breaking sounded in the area as giant bones grew out of the monster’s legs when it was in mid-air!

The monster increased its height by manually growing its leg bones!

Those bones didn’t only just grow downwards; various sharp bones burst out of its entire leg from all places, and some even stabbed the elephant monster’s own stomach, causing blackish-brown blood to flow out of its body!

The moment that blood appeared, a horrible stench spread in the entire area, causing many soldiers to faint on the spot!

"Don’t breathe the poisonous gases its blood is releasing! Also try not to come in contact with its blood!"

There are all kinds of monsters in the world, and it’s entirely possible that this strange stench was likely something poisonous too!

Hearing the commander’s words, everyone tried to hurriedly distance themselves from the monster, but the monster refused to let them escape!

Dozens of archers launched arrows at the monster, but its tough skin bounced them all off, and there was no effect at all!

A Pathwalker used his full strength and threw a spear at the monster, but the monster actually reacted like a trained knight and sidestepped slightly to dodge the incoming spear! 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"It’s smarter than most monsters.... Also it’s shouting so loudly likely to get the attention of other monsters in the area..."

"If we don’t get out of here soon, we will be surrounded by dozens of monsters sooner or later..."

Seeing that the situation was getting dire and there seemed to be no way of getting out of this mess quickly, that commander sighed and brought out a locket from his pocket.

"I wanted to save this for some life-threatening situation some day... but if I don’t use it today, perhaps I might not survive today at all..."

Seeing that even the Pathwalkers were having difficulty fighting that monster with thick skin and the smart brain, the commander had no other choice but to bring his trump card out.

He clenched the locket tightly in his palm and crushed it into pieces as a bright glowing orb appeared in his hand.

The orb slowly started to disappear on its own as the sunny weather suddenly changed at a rapid speed.

The sky suddenly got covered in dark stormy clouds at a very rapid speed, and once the glowing orb fully disintegrated in the environment, the entire sky above the swamp got covered in dense black clouds.

Lightning appeared in the clouds and illuminated the dark area below; the Pathwalkers who were laying siege to the monster seemed to have sensed something and thus hurriedly retreated back to the commander’s side.

*RUMBLE!* *RUMBLE!*

*BOOOOOOM!!!!*

Before the monster could even react or dodge, a massive beam of thunder fell from the sky and hit the elephant monster head-on!

All the Pathwalkers hurriedly jumped onto the wooden carriages or sat above the count’s carriage along with the commander to escape the lightning!

*SIZZZLEEE!!* *SIZLEE!!!!*

The giant elephant monster was burnt black, and its body crumbled and fell while breaking down in many pieces as the bolts of current lingered in the swamp water for a long time!

All the ordinary soldiers were unable to dodge the attack on time like the Pathwalkers and were electrocuted due to the electricity passing into the swamp water, and many of them died on the spot!

Out of the three hundred original soldiers, barely a few dozen remained alive, and even they were half-dead!

Out of the dozen Pathwalkers, only one died because he was not able to retreat back on time from the monster’s side and got caught in the range of the thunderbolt!

His body was reduced to burnt pieces of meat with nothing intact left behind to salvage.

Looking at this devastating scene, the other Pathwalkers looked at their commander with a look of shock and disbelief in their eyes!

"Why did you do that, Commander!? You killed my brother!!!"

Standing atop the luxurious carriage, one of the Pathwalkers grabbed the commander by the collar and shouted in a loud voice as his eyes went bloodshot from sheer anger!

The Pathwalker who died was his brother, and due to the commander using that weird artifact, his brother died, and not even his corpse was left behind!

And since nearly all the soldiers had died from this attack, even other Pathwalkers found this attack very wrong, and even they were glaring at the commander with a look of disbelief!

"I did what was necessary in that moment! If I hadn’t done that, nobody among us would have survived today!"
