The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 368: The bloody head - III
~Genevive~
"My god," Marilyn covered her face with her hands entirely, "Laura did that?"
"Yes." Catherine nodded.
That was quite a lot. I had received so much information and had so many questions because of it. I did not even know where to begin or what Catherine knew.
"What happened then?"
She gulped. "We left immediately. We had little stuff, so it was easy to pack everything. Lala took the money that we had accumulated and the money that Gerald had before taking his horse and running away."
"We traveled for quite a long time. We followed the same routine of not going directly into the village that we crossed and we only stopped when we found a belly occupied village that we did not know was actually bothering another country."
She sighed a little. " Lala was working and collecting things she could find in the jungle. There was not much work since there were a lot less people there and we could not buy a lot of things. She at times had to leave to go to another village to buy food that was going to sustain us..."
I frowned. "What?"
She had stopped speaking in the middle of a sentence.
"I.." Tears found their way in her eyes again, "I forgot about her when they found me. I saw the Royal uniform and I just left. I left Lala over there!"
Oh, dear god.
"Don’t you worry about that, my darling. We will send people to bring Lala. I will send her a letter from me and she will come here, alright?"
Catherine nodded, calming down a little. "It hurt so much. Lala was eating less and giving me more food, but I knew that we did not have a lot. I even tried helping her but the people were so scary over there! We did not even go out in the evening, only when there was bright light outside, and we always carried sticks with us!"
"I know, my love," I pulled her closer to me and hugged her tightly.
As it turned out, I owed Laura a great deal. It also appeared to be that Catherine did not know a lot. It had to be Laura, who knew who was responsible for this, and who was not.
"Do you want some water, Darling?"
She shook her head and just snuggled in. "May I have a warm bath and go to bed, please?"
"Yes, why not." I answered her before turning towards the door of the bedroom where I knew Irene was hovering around. "Irene?"
"Yes, your grace?"
"Please prepare a warm bath for Catherine."
She nodded and left while I stayed with my sister, offering her the comfort I could. Marilyn followed Irene outside, probably doing what she had done for years for me. She just me with Catherine was going to like.
When it was ready, I took Catherine with me to the bath and immediately found the smell of Cedar. It was something that had always made Catherine feel sleepy.
A good long so close, but my sister required it clearly because I believe it would have been impossible for Laura to arrange for hot water in the village and a small cottage that she left in. Doing it every single day must’ve been a task so cold water from the well would have been the best option and the most visible one
By the time Catherine was made to change into a soft and slightly loosely fitted nightwear, she was almost half asleep on me. Leaving her in my bed, I covered her with my blankets before leaving one of the ladies to stay with her.
"What now?" Marilym asked as I moved into the seating area. Irene followed behind quietly.
"Now," I sat down and rested my back against the sofa and accepted the tea Irene off with me with gratitude. She did the same for Marilyn. "Now I tell Tristan what happened and hopefully he will be able to get Laura. I believe she knows what happened to more than Catherine did."
"I hope so too." She took a long sip of her blood tea. "How did every thing become such a mess? One day, we were living in palace just dealing with petty politics and now we are almost dealing with a mess that was ruined all of our lives."
That was not my concern at the moment. I was thinking about something else or rather do things actually.
One was Laura and we were yet to find her and my questions seemed to be never ending at this point. So many things were there that I wanted to know about and the only person who could answer that was Laura herself.
The second was what had happened with me. Catherine had fallen asleep, which was a miracle, but given how tired she was. It was a given. The warm bath had done nothing but help her into her sleep more.
But I knew the moment she would wake up, she was going to ask me questions and there was not much. I want to hide from her, but would rather have to cancel it out of duty. My sister was quite young and the horrors that I had been through, but not something I should be sharing with her.
There was the detail of one night. I was definitely going to hide. Catherine would never know about it. No one would know about it if I had my hand it.
"You think she’s going to ask you about it, don’t you?" Marilyn read what was on my mind.
"Yes." I confirmed it. "I know for the fact that when she wakes up, this is going to be her first or at least second question. I think the first at the moment is going to be for me to play with her hair."
Marilyn laughed, She knew what I was talking about. This was something I had done for years for my little sister. That was how she would love to wake up.
I already dreaded what the next day was going to bring.
