The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 394: The Jury - II
The plaintive fell down on her knees, happily thanking us in gratitude, but was escorted away. She was not the first one to be happy when received justice.
"Well done," Chiara leaned in. "You are quite firm in your approach. I must say, you did well. Maybe next time you can even host the court yourself."
By myself in a foreign country? Now I was petrified.
"Me?" at least my hand on my chest, as if the bird was not enough. "I don’t even know the country—"
"Yes, you do." Chiara interrupted. " The people of this country were once prepared to accept you as a future queen. You are the only thing they have in common. When it comes to the past they left in the future they ended. You, Genevieve, are more than capable of holding this court."
The betrothal between me, and Prince Terrence had been set years ago when we were married toddlers. It was known to the public and they had to accept me. Since I was the second princess of an honorable kingdom, no one objected to the proposal. They all were prepared and so. Even after the overtaking of the kingdom, I remained as someone who was going to be the future queen.
I remained.
The next set of people were brought in. It was a petty theft and just as I had learnt to read the language of the body, I knew that the defendant had stolen, but the plaintiff was accusing for far more.
Justice was delivered swiftly and a few more times. None of the cases brought forward today were complicated. However, there was one thing that I had noticed.
It was something that I had never seen that happened before. Before the group came in, there was always an announcement that was short and precise. The defendant and the plaintiff were never given a chance to tell what their story was. The report created by someone and said by Alvin was more than enough for Chiara and to continue. The justice was given on that very report.
But how was that report created? Who created it? What was the possibility of it being truly precise to the fault?
Alvin faced us. "We are done with the cases that were brought forward for today."
The door that was used by the people outside the palace to come into the room was closed. No one was standing behind it, waiting to come inside. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
The room was almost empty except for the few guards.
I frowned. "The numbers were quite few."
Alvin nodded. "They are nothing in comparison to what they should have been. a lot of humans still do not trust us. Those who do, knock on ours for justice. I suppose it is going to take them a lot more time than we thought."
Of course they were going to be. In fact, now that he mentioned it, it was quite surprising that so many had showed up for justice.
The rumours must have left the palace about the people who now occupied the kingdom. With the rumours of bloodsuckers prevailing around the people of the capital, no one was going to come out and seek justice from them. Not when their survival was stationed on the blood of humans.
"I think we should go and have some tea." Chiara suggested and I accepted the invitation. There was nothing else to do.
Alvin excused himself and stepped back, just as we walked out of the court.
"You have questions to ask." Chiara said knowingly.
"They are not many," I admitted, "but I do have some, yes."
"Ask away."
"Has the Number increased?"
"Not much. Not as much as we would like, but yes, there has been a slight increase."
Her explanation led rise to another another question that was completely different than what I had previously decided to ask.
"Was it your mood to increase the attendance of people by bringing me in?" Because of what she said, I was going to be an essential pawn in the small game of chess.
A pawn that was going to attract others to come. If I was safe and secure in the palace, then people would have hoped that they would be too.
If I was alive and thriving, then there was hope for them.
Chiara remained silent until we reached the parlour, which had given me the answer I needed without any words.
"I hope you don’t mind." She said once the doors were closed.
I chose to sit down before saying anything. Once I had made myself comfortable, I pondered on what to say. "Do you want me to take your friends to such a plot but you could have conveniently included me in?"
The slight change in her expression, told me that she had not expected such a reply. "you would do that?"
I nodded along as I said, "had I been asked, I would have."
She moved to the fresh spot of tea created, and brought one to me before mixing some blood for herself in it. Surprisingly enough, the side of the blood did not make me queasy as it once did.
"I apologise." She took a seat in front of me. "I should have considered that you would be open to helping us out. I did not and that is my fault."
Taking a sip of the tea, I thought of the reply I should give her. Yes, it was no doubt that I would have appreciated being included in the small plot she had arranged.
Even though I knew that presenting me to public when she had previously refused to do so hard to me was something other than what she was showing me on the surface.
Perhaps, since she had apologised, it was a good time to present her with an opportunity that would have us working together.
Staring into the cup of tea, as I watched A cube of sugar dissolve in the hot water. I knew that it was time to make some changes. It was time I moved forward and stepped into the road. I was always meant to take which was only slightly different. Because now I had someone by my side who was vastly different from Terrence.
