Chapter 406: Breakfast together? – III

Catherine stopped talking and inhaled loudly before a cheeky smile to her face. "Food."

I chuckled and pinched her cheeks. "Yes, my little sparrow. Food. Are you ready to eat?"

"Yes!"

Receiving her answer, I turned to the guard, standing next to the door of the dining room and nodded to him. They opened the doors, and we walked in.

Tristan was already sitting at the head of the table, but stood up the moment he heard the sound of the door.

He walked towards Catherine first, and held his hand out like anyone would as a gentleman with fine upbringing.

"Princess Catherine," his faintly kissed her knuckles, "I am honoured to meet you."

My sister immediately turned to me. The only thing I could say was that she was flabbergasted with the way Tristan spoke. I did not blame her one bit before that. Not when I knew that he could have a way with them when he wanted.

He could be as dirty as a street vendor and as refined as a High Court member when he wanted to be.

I winked, feeling quite cheeky myself.

Catherine turned to him flustered

and attempted to do a court in front of him but failed miserably. If only her governess saw, she would faint and stab herself to that as punishment.

"Th-thank you, my king. I am very honoured to-to be hosted by you."

Quite miserable indeed. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Tristan did not mind it. He did not have an annoyed or amused look on his face. He simply looked happy.

"Please, do not be apprehensive. Genevieve is going to be the Queen of the kingdom and my wife. I am your brother-in-law and there is no need for you to be formal with me."

"Oh," Catherine chuckled but nervousness was palpable, "but I do not know even enough to not be formal with you."

"Let us fix that. Please allow me to have the honor of having breakfast with you. I had the kitchens prepare a feast for you, all the foods you like."

Catherine opened her mouth, but then closed it and cast me a glance. It belonged to our previous conversation. She still wondered, and was he hesitant to ask him questions.

Tristan, however, caught onto that quickly. "If you have any questions to ask me, go ahead. You do not need to hold back on any account. None of us, my kind if I may say so, will deny answering any of them."

"But what if it is not a present answer?" Catherine asked, trusting him slowly or rather, the words just slipped out of her.

"Then I believe humans like sugar coated things a lot." He grinned, a boyish smile, completely in contrast to the wolfish one I was given earlier today. "Even if it is quite unhealthy for them."

Catherine giggled and I enjoyed the sound thoroughly. Tristan took her by the hand, holding her gently, and let her to sit, opposite to my own, but next to him.

He pulled out her chair like a gentleman, and helped her sit in before moving over to hold my chair.

For a moment, I thought he had forgotten about me and was completely engaged in the task of impressing my sister. But there he was remembering me not at the back of his mind but like I was constantly on it.

Once I sat down, he moved to his chair, and two servants entered from the door attached to the servant hallway.

Their main task was to revolve around Catherine it seemed. Because they asked her about every dish and placed a little amount of it before moving onto the next one.

Tristan moved and his movements. He was the one who served me. He already knew the dishes. I liked and had served them on my plate without asking or confirming.

Did I have a problem with it? No.

Did I like it? Yes.

Was I blushing? Also, yes.

"It has been so long since I will be eating deer heart!" Catherine’s smile was blissful. "I have not had this delicacy since I left home!"

"I was told it is your favourite of yours." Tristan told her her before motioning the servants to leave with his eyes.

Catherine nodded as she ate and her eyes went to his place before landing on his glass. It was the only thing that was not kept properly, meaning he had used it.

"Ask ahead, Catherine." I indulged her with a sweet and gentle smile. Tristan reciprocated the same to her.

She peered over, into his glass, but was unable to see what was in it. " lWhat’s in your glass?"

"Blood, Catherine."

She shuddered and I am sure she tried to suppress it, but was unable to. "Did you... Did you kill someone for it?"

Tristan smiled. He must’ve expected her first question to be that. After all, when your name was, someone who was called the creature of the night, oh blood sucks, naturally, that was going to be the first thing anyone asked.

"No, we usually drink animal blood. But recently, since I want the humans of this country to trust us, we have opened blood banks."

"Blood banks?" I repeated. "What are those?"

He caught my eyes and held them. Blood banks are open for humans who are willing to give blood. It can be in exchange for anything at the moment because it’s more of a bribe to have them trust us. They can do it for food, or mainly money which is what the majority wants."

"Huh," Catherine slowly noted as she understood the intent behind it. "Seems quite intelligent, even though it is an immoral bribe."

"They are being fed all the while coming to us willingly and are coming to us. Immortal or not I would call this situation a win."

"They come?" I asked, softly so that Catherine would be excluded from the conversation at the moment her attention was on her plate again.

He nodded, a little serious. "The bribe works, and so does the gossip. The results are good."

That was better than unexpected. I never expected any of them to make such an effort when they did not need to.
