Chapter 85: 72 Soft Persimmon_1

Heart of Bagua City.

Surrounding the City Lord Mansion, nearly a hundred cultivators engaged in a fierce slaughter, with booming sounds that shook heaven and earth.

Beams of dazzling light and rainbow lightning accompanied by blood spatter, the tall bodies fell thunderously into pools of blood.

The thick scent of blood wafted around the City Lord Mansion, the white jade-like stone floor smeared with stains of blood.

The first bodies to die, their flesh and clothing, were slowly dissolving.

It seemed everyone knew that those who died would eventually be consumed by Bagua City, but nobody cared.

Standing on the edge, Pang Jian observed his surroundings with an indifferent expression, transforming the battlefield into a three-dimensional map deeply imprinted in his mind.

Eight streets led to this place, to his left, separated by a street, stood a girl in white.

Just like them, the girl stood still, with a calm and undisturbed gaze, knowing well that the darkness from the street behind her would not seep into this square.

Pang Jian immediately looked to the right.

To his right, the first street corner was empty, and even the second street corner seemed devoid of people.

However, as Pang Jian looked at the right second street corner, he suddenly felt a sense of alarm.

He looked carefully and found that the darkness at the second street corner was not the same as at the other corners.

The darkness at the other corners was stationary, while on his right, the second street corner’s darkness was constantly in motion.

It was as if there was something in the darkness, or some creature, incessantly moving within it.

That thing seemed to be completely engulfed in darkness, just watching the slaughter at the City Lord Mansion from the street corner.

“There’s something over there.”

Pang Jian pointed to the right to alert everyone.

Zhou Qingchen and others followed his gaze and also noticed that the darkness at that street corner was visibly different from the others.

Jiang Li, elegant despite having lost half an arm, had come over trembling with fear; the constantly moving darkness now made her even more anxious and frightened.

“Little girl.”

Yet at this moment, she waved at the girl in white, asking friendly, “Are you alone? Do you want to join us?”

The girl with the veil shook her head indifferently.

“There’s something unusual in the darkness across your street, be careful on your own.”

Zhou Qingchen, seeing Jiang Li’s kind invitation rejected, didn’t mind and called out to the girl.

On hearing this, the girl in white became vigilant.

The City Lord Mansion occupied a large space in the center of the square, and her street corner was separated from the one with the unusual activity by the City Lord Mansion.

She and that street corner were face to face, with the City Lord Mansion standing tall in between.

She could see Pang Jian and his group, but her line of sight couldn’t cross the City Lord Mansion to see the unusual darkness on the opposite side.

The reminded girl pondered for a moment, then moved along the wall to the left to observe from the other end, avoiding Pang Jian and the others.

“Senior Sister Jiang, you’re still too kindhearted.”

Zhou Qingchen looked at Jiang Li with sorrow in his eyes, sighing without any blame, “She dares to be alone, her eyes void of panic, how could she possibly be without some confidence?”

“Now look at Su Meng over here, who is about her age…”

Jiang Li turned her head and saw Su Meng looking petrified, staring at the cruel battlefield without the leisure to notice her surroundings.

“Why? Why do they have to slaughter each other?”

Hearing her name mentioned, Su Meng shrank back, looking at everyone with confusion.

“Bagua City needs to feed on people. Until it has had its fill, the exit through the Mirror Tunnel won’t open, and the barrier enveloping the Strange Treasure of the City Lord Mansion won’t reveal itself.”

Li Jie emerged from the direction to the right of the group, approaching them calmly and unhurriedly.

He had a piece of straw hanging from his mouth, dipping into a liuli bottle; it seemed he was forever drinking Green Fruit Juice.

When he reached the street corner on their right, where the darkness was stirring, he suddenly stopped.

He stood at the street corner, looking at the churning darkness.

The constantly surging darkness was only a hair’s breadth away from him; under his inquisitive gaze, the moving darkness quietly subsided.

Li Jie chuckled, no longer staring intently at that patch of darkness, but instead moved to the first street corner on the right of Pang Jian and the others, taking out a bamboo recliner from his Storage Ring.

He lay down comfortably on the recliner, taking out some dried meat and fruit, all the while sipping his Green Fruit Juice.

“I was earlier in front of the City Lord Mansion, conveniently separated from you all by the mansion itself,” he said, addressing no one in particular with a cheerful laugh, “You came too late, missing out on the splendid scene.”

“Initially, everybody was calm for a while, but once it was known that Bagua City required a blood sacrifice to reveal the exit of the Mirror Tunnel and the Strange Treasure within, bloodshed naturally erupted.”

The one who enjoyed watching the commotion, Li Jie exclaimed while patting his leg, “It was truly thrilling!”

“Teams with old grudges and enmities immediately started to fight. The battle quickly spread to everyone; it wasn’t long before they all saw red.”

“The strongest few have already made their way to the inside of the City Lord Mansion and are now waiting on the high platform beside the water pool.”

“The slaughter outside continues, and if the number of those who die in Bagua City doesn’t reach a certain threshold, the oddities within the City Lord Mansion will not fully reveal themselves.”

“So, everybody can only keep killing like this until enough people have been sacrificed,” he continued.

Li Jie, munching dried meat and drinking fruit juice, lay on his chair, enthusiastically clarifying the situation to everyone with gestures.

“This guy is really annoying.”

Han Duping snorted lightly.

If it weren’t for witnessing the tragic fate of Blood Moon and Raging Sun Sect with his own eyes, he wouldn’t mind teaching Li Jie a lesson and plundering all of his strange treasures.

“I’ll go check it out.”

Pang Jian suddenly spoke up, and without waiting for anyone to stop him, he walked toward the direction of the young girl in white to the left.

He also examined the several alleyways on the left along with the City Lord Mansion very carefully.

Before long, he saw the white-clothed girl appear at the main entrance of the City Lord Mansion, which was exactly where Li Jie had previously been.

Seeing him approach, the girl’s eyes immediately turned frosty.

Pang Jian didn’t continue to get closer but just looked towards the area in front of the city gates where the fighting was most brutal.

A moment later, Pang Jian nodded at her as coldly as she had looked at him, then turned back the way he came.

“The City Lord Mansion has both a front and a back door. We came out facing the back door, but it’s closed. The front door has always been open, but no one has entered.”

Pang Jian explained his findings upon returning.

“You could have just asked me, no need for a special trip,” Li Jie interjected from the side, saying with a grin, “Those who can enter through the front door either have proven themselves outside the city, possessing super strong individual combat strength.”

“Otherwise, it’s their status that does the talking, scaring others at first sight. Right now, no one dares to enter because they know they’re far from the level of those inside. They slaughter outside, thinking that however bloody and cruel the battlefield out here, it’s still better than facing those guys inside.”

“As long as the slaughter continues outside the City Lord Mansion, and enough people die, the mysterious forces inside will be completely accessible. By then, those inside won’t bother with them, and they’ll be able to go in and take a look as well.”

Li Jie confidently analyzed the situation.

“Boom!”

A cultivator, short in stature but burly and covered in blood, burst out from a pile of corpses.

His fierce eyes fixed on Pang Jian and the others, and he sneered with a grin, “As long as enough people die, that’s all that matters. I, for one, hope to end this bloody calamity quickly, so… killing you lot works for me too!”

He had been fighting many opponents outside the City Lord Mansion, and now he was covered with wounds.

If he continued to fight, he was very likely to be the first to die, becoming one of the many corpses underfoot.

He clearly knew that only when the mysterious phenomena inside the City Lord Mansion were revealed, could this terrifying bloody battle possibly come to an end.

And only then might he have a chance to survive.

“Indeed, he’s right!”

In the battlefield, several people who knew they couldn’t hold out much longer regained some sanity after hearing his words.

Glancing at Li Jie, who sat leisurely in his chair, sipping Green Fruit Juice, their faces instantly filled with fear, and almost immediately dismissed the idea.

Clearly, someone had suffered a great loss at the hands of Li Jie, so they dared not provoke him.

“We must kill that man on the spot in the quickest and most brutal way possible, or else there will be endless troubles,” Luo Hongyan suddenly reminded everyone in a soft voice, “As soon as we show signs of fatigue and weakness, we’ll be seen as easy pickings, and then more people will want to kill us to increase the death toll more quickly.”

A chill ran down everyone’s spine instantly.

Pang Jian, Zhou Qingchen, and Han Duping all flashed a fierce determination in their eyes, their intense desire to kill no longer concealed.

They knew Luo Hongyan was right.

The unacquainted cultivator needed to die quickly and miserably to deter the others lurking outside the City Lord Mansion.

“Zhou, don’t hold back this time, absolutely no holding back!”

Han Duping barked.

Zhou Qingchen nodded heavily.

Jiang Li gritted her teeth, wanting to step forward like Zhou Qingchen to join the battle.

“Stay back, Senior Sister Jiang! Your left hand is badly injured and you’ve not yet adapted to the new way of fighting. Don’t cause us trouble!”

Zhou Qingchen spoke sternly, the first time he had ever shown Jiang Li such an unkind face.

No sooner had he finished speaking than he was the first to step forward, Long Blade in hand!

On his way, he even placed the Heart Protection Mirror outside his chest and wore a pair of Black Iron Gloves on his unarmed left hand, the gloves covered in fierce iron spikes.

“Listen to him,”

Just as Jiang Li was about to speak, Luo Hongyan pressed her shoulder, forcing her to stay put, and said softly, “He’s not too shabby. At least with you, he’s somewhat of a man.”

“Pang Jian, got any good plans?” Han Duping suddenly asked.

Pang Jian shook his head.

With such an open space and no cover to speak of, this kind of fight allowed for little planning.

Zhou Qingchen, always a straightforward person, surged forward with fiery momentum towards the enemy. When he was still several meters away, he stopped and suddenly threw a pouch of poison powder into the air.

“Bang!”

A cloud of dust spread out over the enemy’s head, enveloping him completely.

“Damn your mother!”

The enemy quickly closed his eyes, cursing thunderously as he did so.

Han Duping, who was about to charge forward, hesitated.

Pang Jian also hesitated.
