Chapter 43: Misunderstanding

There are five academies in the Empire. They are the pride and honor of the nation.

Among those five, Rajuk Caeloria Academy is the most prestigious, as even members of the imperial family study here.

Inside this renowned academy, an old man with a silky white beard stood by the window, gazing at the sky in a daze.

Then someone knocked at the door.

Knock knock

"Come in." the old man gave permission.

A woman came in. She was in her early thirties.

"How are you, Dean?" the woman asked.

The old man then moved away from the window and sat at his office desk.

"I’m fine, how about you, Professor Eva?"

The woman who had entered was a professor at Rajuk Caeloria Academy, and the old man was its Dean.

"I’m also fine. Dean, have you heard your grandson’s mighty story? He is now a hero of the empire." Professor Eva said with a sweet smile.

"Hohoho, he is still immature. People are just boosting his ego." the Dean said with a smile.

"Aether Von Noctvain, the hero who killed a tier 7 Soulborne. Wow, I can’t wait to teach him." Professor Eva said, rubbing her hands together.

"Hohoho, you’re praising my grandson too much."

The Academy dean is the grandfather of Aether von Noctvain.

"But Dean, why are you looking gloomy?" Professor Eva asked.

"No, it’s nothing. I’m getting old and have less energy," the Dean replied with an exhausted expression.

"You’re still young, Dean."

"Hohoho, thank you Professor Eva. Anyway, how’s the student council’s preparation going?"

"They’re all excited about visiting the Noctvain Family, as it’s the most ruthless family and marks the border between The Chasm and the Empire."

"Hohoho, young blood sure is energetic."

Every year, the student council visits one of the seven great families to gain real-life experience, and this year, they would go to the Noctvain Family.

"Okay then, Dean, I’ll take my leave, as I have a class."

"Very well, Professor Eva. Have a good class. If you need anything, my office is always open."

"Thank you for your kind words, Dean." Professor Eva then left for her class.

As she left the office, the Dean looked at a letter on the table.

It was from Kyle Von Noctvain, Aether’s father. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"He’s truly unpredictable." the Dean said with a gloomy expression.

"I thought I would brag about my grandson, but he wants to join the academy as a commoner. Haaa" the Dean sighed in exhaustion.

Before going on the mission to kill the Soulborne, Aether asked his father to admit him to the academy as a commoner. Thus, his father wrote a letter to the Dean, who is Aether’s grandfather, about his decision.

"Truly an unpredictable child."

* * *

Noctvain Estate,

Inside the drawing room, Aether and Cierra were sitting on the same couch. Beside them were Aether’s mother, his siblings, and Thalia.

"So, both of you fought the Soulborne together?" Aether’s mother asked.

"Yes, Mother."

"My, my. It seems I have gravely misunderstood your relationship with Lady Thalia."

"It’s okay, ma’am." Thalia replied awkwardly.

After Aether’s mother fainted, she was given immediate treatment.

When she woke up, she cried and eventually accepted Thalia. She cried because she had wanted Cierra to be the first wife. But then Aether cleared up the misunderstanding about their relationship.

Aether’s mother was a ruthless woman who had killed many strong enemies with cruelty. But when it came to family, she was rather simple-minded.

Cierra, on the other hand, was sitting on the couch beside Aether, her face bright red and teary.

She had also misunderstood Aether, and that made her feel guilty.

Then Aether’s little sister, Lyra, approached him and sat on his lap.

"I’m sorry, Brother. I said bad things to you." Lyra’s face was sulking.

"Hoo, are you crying?" Aether asked in a teasing tone.

"No, I’m not." Lyra wiped her face with her hands and smiled beautifully.

Aether’s heart was pounding wildly, this was the family he had missed and ignored in his past life.

’We don’t know something’s value until we lose it.’ Aether thought to himself.

After a happy conversation, everyone left the room. Aether and Cierra left along with them.

Cierra’s maid was standing outside, as this had been a family matter.

Now Aether, Cierra, and her maid walked in the same direction, heading to their rooms to sleep.

"I’m sorry, Cierra." Aether said.

After his regression, he had been occupied with many things, so he hadn’t had the time to properly apologize.

The apology wasn’t simple, either. It was for failing to protect her, for ignoring her, for all the things Aether regretted in his past life.

"Hu... ah... uhm..." Cierra’s eyes were spinning wildly, her face, ears, and hands bright red.

Although Aether had apologized for his past life, to her it seemed he was apologizing for the misunderstanding.

"Uhmm... I’m also sorry." she said in a low, embarrassed voice.

"Wanna stay up tonight?" Aether asked, looking into Cierra’s eyes.

"Ah....." Cierra’s face became even brighter red.

Stay up tonight together....does he mean....

"Let’s go to the lake." Aether said.

"Ah... yes, sure." Cierra’s heart pounded strongly. Just now, she had thought about something indecent.

She had great feelings for Aether. To improve their relationship, she had read many romantic books.

One of them had a protagonist who asked the female lead to stay up all night. Then, both of them kissed for a long time.

’Aaaaaaaa! It’s too early for us to do that’

Cierra covered her face with both hands, feeling her cheeks burn with embarrassment.

Just then,

"Young lady, I’m not feeling well, so can I go to bed?" Cierra’s maid, Lina, said as she noticed their interaction and gave them some personal space.

- I’ll be cheering for you, my lady.

Lina said through voice transmission.

It’s a technique that lets someone talk into another person’s mind through sound waves, without anyone else hearing.

As Lina left, Cierra began planning what to say, how she could make this memorable and keep Aether from getting bored.

Lost in thought, they finally arrived at the lake.
