The Retired CEO's Guide To Being Spoiled-Chapter 210: The Special "Assistant"
After stepping into the spacious interior of the car, Julian casually tossed his backpack onto the adjacent leather seat. He then pulled out his phone and swiftly typed out a text message to Ethan Caldwell: [When you headed out for work this morning, did you happen to bring my laptop along with you?]
A mere few seconds later, a reply promptly popped up on the screen: [I brought it to the company office. Are you planning to drop by here later?]
[Yes, I am already on my way there.]
Barely had Julian pressed the send button when the phone screen immediately lit up with an incoming call. The caller was none other than Ethan Caldwell. Julian accepted the call, answering with a soft and gentle voice: "Hello."
"What is the matter with you? Even through the phone, your voice sounds a bit melancholic. Did something happen at the university?"
"I am fine, it is just that my first day of school was met with a few unpleasant incidents that I did not quite expect." Julian gave a faint pout, his tone carrying a hint of petulance, much like a spoiled child subtly complaining to the adults in the family. However, he was very clever. Instead of immediately explaining the entire situation in detail, he swiftly took the initiative to change the subject: "How are things progressing with the collaborative project? I have been so entirely caught up with the university enrollment recently that I have not even had the time to properly review the current progress."
"The technical department has already completed the preliminary demo regarding the visual elements and the transition effects. But I think it would be best if you came over to see it in person and provide your feedback, that would be much more effective."
"Yes, I am currently on my way there. The car should arrive at the basement parking lot in about fifteen minutes."
"You have not eaten anything since this morning, have you? Is there any special dish you would like to eat? I will have Helen Lloyd go and buy it for you right away."
"Ethan Caldwell , you should not constantly bother Helen Lloyd over every little thing. She is your professional secretary, not a personal lifestyle assistant whose job is to take care of my daily meals."
"She willingly accepts drawing a double salary, so it is not an issue at all. Or perhaps..." The man’s voice on the other end of the line deliberately trailed off, carrying a distinctly teasing undertone: "Are you planning to arrange an entirely new, dedicated personal assistant for me? I certainly would not mind having an extra person to serve me, I am just afraid that my baby might get jealous and throw a tantrum."
"Stop spouting such nonsense, Ethan Caldwell, who would ever bother getting jealous over such trivial things?"
"Haha..." The man’s deep, incredibly masculine laughter resonated clearly through the receiver: "Then the timing is absolutely perfect, because I genuinely have the intention of finding a new personal lifestyle assistant for myself."
"Who? Who are you planning to hire?" Julian asked, his voice laced with undeniable curiosity. Although he was fairly certain that this older man was merely using his usual tricks to playfully tease him. Throughout all these years, there had never been anyone by Ethan Caldwell’s side who specifically held the position of a personal lifestyle assistant. Absolutely every matter, whether large or small, was solely managed and flawlessly handled by Helen Lloyd alone. In reality, Ethan Caldwell was a highly independent individual who rarely ever required the support of his capable secretary when it came to his personal daily life.
It seemed as though the number of times Ethan Caldwell felt the sudden need for a personal assistant had skyrocketed in a highly unusual manner ever since the day Julian had officially moved into the Caldwell residence.
Yet, despite being fully aware of this fact, upon hearing the man personally state his desire to find someone new, Julian’s tone of voice still underwent a subtle shift, carrying a faint trace of discomfort that even he himself failed to consciously recognize.
However, an old, cunning fox like Ethan Caldwell was entirely capable of picking up on that minute change. The man continued to laugh with immense amusement: "What is wrong? Why does it sound through the phone as if someone is currently sulking?"
"I am not sulking at you."
"With a tone so heavily laced with the scent of gunpowder, you still dare to claim you are not sulking. But I am speaking in all honesty, I truly do want to recruit someone to take on this specific position..."
The more Julian listened, the more an irritating sense of displeasure brewed within his heart. His finger was already hovering right over the end-call button, fully intending to hang up just to vent his frustration, when the man’s voice timely drifted over once more. This time, the teasing affection in his tone had become overwhelmingly apparent: "Therefore, I wonder if the esteemed Julian has any free time to take on the position of my own special, personal assistant?"
"Tch..." Julian pouted his lips, secretly breathing a quiet sigh of relief in his heart, though his mouth remained stubbornly defiant: "I have no desire to work for you."
"Is that so? But I suppose I will just have to endure it. After all, besides you, I simply cannot invite anyone else to take on such a sensitive position. Otherwise, if my baby were to find out, he would undoubtedly be so furious that he would completely ban me from entering the bedroom."
"Your house actually has a baby? Why does this assistant position sound so incredibly difficult to do?"
"That is exactly right. There is an incredibly demanding baby who is extremely hard to please. At the slightest provocation, he will throw a tantrum and demand to kick people."
"You hooligan." Julian could not hold back from scolding him, his fair, porcelain cheeks already beginning to flush a deep shade of crimson. This highly suggestive, deeply meaningful tease was truly something that only the two of them could intimately understand. After all, usually during their most passionately intimate moments, Julian simply loved to use his bare feet to kick firmly against Ethan Caldwell’s sturdy shoulders whenever the older man became far too enthusiastic and tormented him a little too vigorously.
To be capable of acting like such a shameless rogue even while having a serious conversation over the phone, this hateful man truly had absolutely no sense of shame!
