Lucas drove the car, and Lydia occupied the shotgun seat. This made Violet share the backseat with Sylas. The man leaned against the backseat, closing his eyes as his head fell back.
Violet nervously glanced at him before shifting her gaze, knowing well how she had no immunity to his beauty. The window beside her was open, letting the cool breeze flow in swiftly.
Although she was anxious when out of werewolf land, afraid that some trouble would appear, as soon as the car rode through the smooth and broad roads, Violet understood she had made it amongst the human civilization.
Her hazel eyes sparkled, watching the skyscrapers and fancy cars pass by. The human world held so much fascination to her. When passing by restaurants, the appetizing smell of the food floated by, making her mouth water.
The first stop was to the hospital rather than exploring the human city. Once they entered the hospital building, the cool scent of the disinfectant hit her. This was Violet's first time being amongst so many humans, and her eyes curiously wandered around, watching their interactions.
Lydia brought them over to a doctor's office. As Lydia introduced the doctor as her mentor, Peter, Violet greeted him politely. Sylas settled on the couch, resting there with his eyes closed.
"Let's do an ultrasound on her first to check the fetus. Then, we can run the blood tests to assess her state and understand what necessary steps are needed for the future," Peter stated.
Violet's hand fell on her stomach hearing that. She was eager to see how her child had grown up until now.

Violet plopped down on the couch beside Sylas. In her hand was the printed photograph of her child. Although the fetus's limbs couldn't be properly made out, Violet grinned, thinking where the features would be.
"What a lovely baby." Violet grinned.
Sylas opened his eyes, and turning his head, he stared at the black and white image in her hand. Her happiness caused him to show an inexplicable expression.
"This is just a blob of mass," Sylas stated, "you are that happy over it?"
Violet nodded, caressing her stomach with affection. "Yeah, cause it's my child."
While Violet was feeling giddy here, Peter and Lydia's conversation shared a more solemn atmosphere. Both of them went through the tests done on Violet.
"It will take a day or more to get the results from the other tests, but simply from this, it is easy to see how her condition is bad. The pregnancy is putting a lot of stress on her body, and at this rate, it hard to say whether she would be able to deliver the child safely," Peter informed.
Lydia's eyes fell on Violet.
Although Lucas tried out new creative recipes everyday, hoping they would allow Violet to some weight, they could easily see how her body was being gradually hollowed out. She lost weight faster than she gained it.
"I know that you will be able to find a solution out of this, Peter. If it's not you, then there is no hope. I heard you had a new drug in hand which would help counteract the effects of wolfsbane well. Can't we recommend it to her?" Lydia questioned.
Peter shook his head. "It is still in the preliminary stages of testing. The side effects of the drugs are intense. Even a strong, trained werewolf isn't able to endure the burning pain, let alone a fragile girl like her. For now, I will recommend some drugs which will help stabilize her situation."
Lydia nodded.
Looking at the smiling Violet chatting away about the fetus with Sylas, Peter couldn't help but say, "What an unfortunate thing to happen to such a bright young lady. She seems to be oblivious to the plight and filled with optimism."
The conversation that went on wasn't concealed from Violet. Sylas checked Violet's expression for something unusual, but there was nothing he could find.
"Aren't you afraid?" Sylas asked.
Violet lowered her gaze. "It would be a lie to say I am not. But after seeing how everyone is working hard, so that I would be well, I am not afraid anymore. If I am depressed, it will only get everyone feeling more down."
For someone with a delicate mind, Violet showed her surprising resilience at times. Instead of collapsing at the news of her possible death, Violet was spirited over the arrival of her child.
"What a fool," Sylas commented.
A sheepish giggle left her mouth.
At the end of the day, Lucas mentioned visiting the bar. Although the rest expressed their dissatisfaction, Violet's curiosity made her support Lucas, and in the end, the four of them found themselves in the bar.
However, the exhaustion catching up to Violet made her regret her decision.
The colorful lights flashed around while the loud music boomed. Bodies collided against each other on the dance floor, as the conversations were carried out on the side. Violet watched Lucas order a variety of drinks.
The adrenaline drained out of Violet, and a yawn left her mouth.
She wanted to return home.
With her half opened eyes, she watched the admiring eyes fall on Sylas. Although the ladies were attracted by Sylas, he was marked by a border of coldness and danger, making him unapproachable.
A soft mesmerizing smile sat on his face, as Sylas twirled the wine in the glass. The soft light above them casted a warm glow on his face, accentuating his gentle features.
After a long while of watching, a woman finally summoned the courage to step up. A confident smile stretched across her red lips as she bowed down, revealing her exposed chest more. Violet watched the woman move seductively before offering, "Would you like me to buy you a drink?"
The woman's slender hand reached out for Sylas's shoulder when Sylas grabbed on to her hand. Although he appeared polite, there was a chilliness to him.
His other hand covered Violet's eyes, and he educated, "Don't look at it. You will learn bad things."
Then, fixing his gaze on the woman, the smile on his face became wider. He responded, "I apologize. I have to take care of the child here."
Although the woman was caught off guard, she didn't dare to probe further with Sylas. Her senses let her know there was a madness in him she did not dare to provoke.
When the woman was gone, Violet pouted at Sylas and rebuked, "I am not a child."
Violet then turned her attention towards Lucas. The man was surrounded by women, playing cards with them and completing dares once any one lost.
Lydia expressed her disgust with the game. However, Lucas was determined to drag her in one she showed her distaste, and after being provoked by Lucas, she wasn't able to hold it in, joining in on the game.
"You lost once again!" Lucas exclaimed excitedly. "It's my turn to punish you! You have to kiss the very first man that enters the club next."
Lydia stared at Lucas, bored.
She then reached out for the glass of alcohol on the table and drank it down in one shot. Her head buzzed at the effect, and her throat burned.
It was strong.
Violet's eyes blinked as she watched Lucas's shirt come off in the next few rounds of the game, and kisses were imprinted on his chest. A beautiful, scantily dressed woman sat on his lap, tracing her finger across his chest.
This opened Violet's eyes to a whole new world of obscenity.
Her hand reached out to pick up a grape from the plate. Tossing the plump grape in her mouth, she watched the play out before her in interest.
The woman sitting on Lucas's leg threw her head back and giggled when Lucas lost the next round.
"Let's make the game more interesting. I see the two of you have thick sexual tension between you. Why don't you kiss?" The woman's manicured nail pointed between Lucas and Lydia.
Violet's mouth gaped open in shock.
What a punishment that was!
Her inquisitive eyes intently watched Lucas and Lydia's face contort to that of disgust.
Lucas shuddered and stated, "I would rather take poison. Mi'lady, do you hate me so much?"
"Hey, I was just tryna spice up the game." The woman chuckled.
"A prude like her would never kiss a man. I am sure she doesn't even know what a kiss is. After all, I don't think she touched a man of opposite gender unless it is with a cold, hard metal. She is too—"
Before Lucas could continue to insult Lydia further, Lydia grabbed the man by his shirt's collar and pulled him closer. Lucas's eyes widened when Lydia's lips pressed on to his.
Violet gasped.
What a plot twist was this!
But before she could watch the situation escalate, her vision blackened. The tender touch of Sylas over her eyes distracted her.
"Told you that you shouldn't watch these. You will learn dirty things," Sylas's deep voice fell into her ear.
Whether it was the scent of the wine he was drinking or his pheromone, it intoxicated her senses. A chill traveled down her spine.
