[Snow region of the unknown planet, Sam’s POV]

Sam stared down the huge, fifteen-something meter tall, blue-skinned, big-bellied monster. He signaled the others to move into formation behind him. It wasn’t just a monster—Sam had a suspicion that the similarities in their appearance did not end at their body types. It could hold some unknown power like himself, and the intelligent eyes were proof that it was not just an angry, charge-ahead type of monster they had faced in the dungeon.

He also needed to do this fast and get to those three Highsword knights who had fallen out of the sky before they woke up. Suddenly, the huge creature spoke up,

{Unintelligible monster sounds.}

"It’s trying to say something to us.." Sariel whispered beside Sam, after finishing his quick chanting and holding the spell, ready to launch.

"I can see that.. the question is what?" Sam replied.

The creature could also sense the newly arrived Highswords and was constantly looking in their direction while trying to communicate, making eye contact. It was even moving its big, heavy wooden axe up and down dangerously, though it did not seem like it was meant as a threat.

"Let’s move.." Sam said decisively.

"Where?" Amy asked.

"Towards the direction where the Highsword knights just fell down.." Sam replied.

"What if it attacks the moment we move?" Grace asked, her voice worried.

"He won’t.." Sam replied. "If he was confident he could kill us all, he already would have."

Sariel, Amy, and Grace nodded. Keeping distance between them and constantly eyeing the creature, Sam and the others slowly started moving in the direction of the Highswords. Sam had expected the creature to let them go and follow from a distance, but instead, the guy just started walking beside them, cautiously looking towards both them and the direction they were heading.

They soon reached the place and found the three armored, middle-aged Highswords—two men and one woman. They stripped them of their armors and runic accessories. Sam didn’t want to kill them without confirming that they were the ones who had started the attack, but binding them with simple ropes was not going to cut it either.

"I have some iron chains, but it won’t be able to hold all three of them together.." Grace revealed.

Sam looked at her suspiciously. "Why do you have iron chains with you? Are you into binding people?"

Her face reddened, and she launched a full-power punch on his side, making him regret his choice of words. He just couldn’t help himself from saying it aloud.

"Stop messing around, they can wake up anytime!" Sariel reminded them, while Amy just chuckled behind their backs.

However, before they could think of any other way to bind them, the creature who had come along suddenly grabbed the three sleeping figures, put them on his wide shoulders and started walking away, back in the direction of the village. It surprised Sam, but he couldn’t just let the guy take them—one of them could be from the innocent Highsword side. Sam didn’t want to fight the big guy either, so with a nod of agreement from everyone, they started to follow behind him.

He eyed them but didn’t seem to have any problems with them following. When they entered the small village again, the villagers swarmed around them, but they knew better than to come in the way of the strongest. Everyone muttered all sorts of words and pointed at them, but none tried to stop them or use their weapons. Everyone especially looked scared of Sam, but he simply ignored them.

The leader—Sam assumed he was one, seeing his size and the villagers’ response—took the three Highswords deeper into the village. Only a few villagers accompanied them this far, all males with spears and axes in hand, wary of them but still maintaining discipline.

His warriors, maybe..

Soon a clearing was revealed outside the village, surrounded by small foliage of snow-covered trees. A huge hut—or more like a wooden house—was situated on top of a small snow-covered hill laden with torches. The light of the fire illuminating the special place in the dark of night. It was sized for this village leader.

He brought them to his home? What weirdness was this now?

From the level of their civilization, Sam assumed the guy would be suspicious of outsiders and would not want them anywhere near his village. Maybe along with the size, the guy had also increased intelligence and was simply curious about them. However, before they could reach the picturesque house in the distance, the Highswords started groaning and slowly awakening.

’Fuck! I should have bound at least one of them sooner with chains!’ Sam regretted, taking out his sword from the spatial storage and readying himself. Sariel and the others mirrored his actions. Seeing them suddenly pull out sharp weapons, the guards surrounding them quickly became alert and started shouting in their weird language.

The leader looked back at them, then at the three people slowly waking up on his shoulder, and put down the Highswords—also picking up his axe with two hands. His axe, however, was aimed towards Sam and his friends instead of the three second-rankers. Sam had no time to explain the situation—neither did he think he could, even if he tried—and simply moved towards the Highswords, his sword ready to pierce their hearts the second any of them attacked.

"Where am I.."

"What the hell is that thing.."

"Kids! Hey! Where are we?"

All three got alert the second their eyes focused, asking whatever came to their minds while getting ready to fight. They were equally wary of their companions as they were of their surroundings. Thankfully, they had already taken their spatial storages and armor, leaving them with just their fists.

"State your name and what side you were fighting on!" Sam asked loudly, releasing the full might of his aura to let them see what they were up against if they tried anything funny—even though he had no way to tell if they lied.

"I am Lidgney, and I was attacked by that guy there!" the female knight said, pointing at one of the men.

"Lies!" the man defended, then added, "I am Every, and I was also attacked by one of the guys, but he is not here."

Sam looked towards the last man, who was gritting his teeth at the female knight.

"My name is Corques. We were fighting side by side, and that woman suddenly attacked me from behind before that red wave thing!"
