Chapter 34: Do i look that easy to steal?

He straightened slightly, the orange glow in his eyes reflecting a faint glint directed at Cheon Areum.

"I was there the day he brazenly declared that if he could defeat all the current guild masters, his application to form his own guild would be approved. When the higher-ups refused even that, he went completely berserk. Not for the reason itself, mind you—they had to call in the guild masters for an emergency just to contain him. And then..."

His lips curved into a small, almost wry smile.

"That S-Class hunter—no one thought much of him—rose above every single guild master. The shock was unprecedented. Some guilds even crumbled under the weight of their own shame. He was just... too powerful. Unlimited energy, and a cheat code of his own, as if he had been born to be unstoppable."

"And now..."

The man’s voice dropped, tinged with something like disbelief.

"He’s been reduced to nothing more than the ’the best husband’—the one married to the country’s only S+ Class. It’s as if his legacy never even existed. It’s all Cheon Areum this, Cheon Areum that, now. You didn’t even take his surname after marriage! Is the baby going to be named Cheon too? He’s such a disappointment now."

He let the words hang, finishing with a quiet, glum sigh.

"He’s just an average guild master now."

The man said with a bitter shrug, his dark orange eyes glinting.

"No fame of his own. How sad... even I’m stronger than him now."

Cheon Areum listened with interest as he spoke out.

"And yet... he can resist mind corruption, and you can’t? Are you sure you’re stronger than him?"

The man paused, a flicker of irritation crossing his face.

"You both... really are alike."

"Forget controlling others. Mind corruption is far greater in that regard. Why don’t you try that skill on me... and see if you can actually control me?"

His tone was playful, almost taunting, as the faint black energy circling his body vanished.

"Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Go ahead. Here I am, waiting—with open arms."

Cheon Areum spoke out nonchalantly. He had a strong suspicion that this new awakener possessed a skill similar to mind corruption—that must have been how he manipulated Han Kakta into shoving him into the dungeon. As a registered hunter Cheon Areum’s skills were public information now except his special skill which due to Yoon Seoyul not revealing his own special skill became the norm for the hunters to not lay out their final card in case of emergency but as this new awakener was unregistered no one knew what skills he had or even his class type. A subtle, knowing smile tugged at Cheon Areum’s lips as he watched the man seethe at his taunt, dark orange eyes flaring with suppressed anger.

"You want to be the stronger one so bad but you’re not the first ever S+ Class there’s others and then there’s me who you had to kidnap into a dungeon since you were too scared I wouldn’t be handicapped with Han Kakta on my side and you’d only be groveling at my feet."

"You love to brag about yourself no wonder Yoon Seoyul is being shadowed by you. He shouldn’t have married to an S+ Class hunter after all."

The man slowly closed the distance between them as he spoke. Another person obsessed with Yoon Seoyul being the main character must be tiring it seems like even if he doesn’t do anything now he still gets on people’s nerves. Cheon Areum didn’t move away as the man taller than him stood before him and gazed down at him for a moment.

"I can see the appeal however. Cheon Areum I want your skill: Mind corruption."

He raised his hand to touch Cheon Areum’s hair or face which he dodged instantly by tilting his head to the other side.

"You have the wrong information I am not doing a giveaway of my skill. If you want to come out as the strongest hunter you need to register first and get your hunter card you can beat me in how many gates we clear in a month or a year..."

As he was speaking Cheon Areum frowned upon his own speech, the words suddenly tasting strange in his mouth.

Why am I trying to recruit him like this? Since when did I start talking like I’m the central bureau’s ambassador?

The realization irked him almost as much as the man standing in front of him, and the faint smile he’d been wearing faded as he realized he wasn’t even getting paid for this was he?

"Shit I will have to negotiate with them after getting out of here."

"I’m giving you an option Cheon Areum. I’m considering obtaining that skill in a far less bothersome way."

"Would you date me with marriage in mind?"

"...Huh?"

The frown between Cheon Areum’s brows deepened, disbelief flashing across his face. For a moment, even the oppressive presence of the dungeon faded behind the sheer absurdity of the proposal. Was this man so obsessed with Yoon Seoyul that he even wanted to take his lover?

Is he serious?

"I’m pregnant with Yoon Seoyul’s child you do remember right?"

"Doesn’t matter we can keep the baby if you want."

A lazy smile curved his lips as he stepped closer. His hand creeping behind Cheon Areum’s waist, pulling their bodies together, while his other hand closed around Cheon Areum’s marked nape tracing the teeth marks.

"All you would have to do for this mark to be removed is kill Yoon Seoyul."

He whispered low in his ear as Cheon Areum tried to move realizing he was being controlled by this new awakener’s skill. As expected he did have a skill similar to mind corruption, his consciousness remained intact, every thought clear, every emotion sharp, while his limbs refused to obey him unlike mind corruption where the affected person was totally unconscious acting simply on Cheon Areum’s commands.

Or maybe it was the same as Cheon Areum’s own ability. Just like how he could choose whether the person under his control was allowed to speak, or remain conscious at all—this new awakener might be capable of the same thing. Cheon Areum could still speak. He could still think clearly. Only his body was restrained, wrapped tightly in the other man’s energy, every movement sealed away while his mind remained free.

"Will you mark me after that? Is that your grand plan?"

Cheon Areum asked quietly. Under any other circumstances, he would have already shred this man apart—reduced him to nothing more than a cautionary tale buried deep inside an S+ Class dungeon. The thought came easily, instinctively, accompanied by a dozen clean excuses for how the new awakener might accidentally lose his life in such a hostile place.

Ever since he became capable of doing so it had been difficult to not actually follow through such thoughts thanks to Yoon Seoyul who weekly asked him not to kill anyone as if he was reminding him that if he crossed that line he wouldn’t be able to defend Cheon Areum’s actions just like how in the book Yoon Seoyul never even looked in Cheon Areum’s direction again after he accidentally killed a member of his guild. His mood immediately soured as he was reminded of that time as if he had lived through that reality himself.

"I can apologize too—just like Yoon Seoyul does, if you’re into that. if you kill him for me, We can have a family of our own."

Cheon Areum let out a quiet, humorless breath.

"You’re folding under zero pressure. Sadly for you, me killing Yoon Seoyul is a fantasy so absurd even fiction wouldn’t allow it."

System, how many times can I use mind corruption?

[You can only use mind corruption once with your current energy.]

He hadn’t gotten a recharge from Han Kakta before getting locked into a dungeon if he used that one chance on this new awakener and ran out of energy when it came to suddenly fighting against a monster he would be entirely helpless. Also controlling an S+ Class takes way more energy than any lower classes.

"I have never found Yoon Seoyul’s pheromones as abhorrent as now."

The man said nothing more before pulling Cheon Areum into a sudden embrace. Slowly, the lingering pheromones clinging to Cheon Areum’s body began to fade. Even though Cheon Areum could no longer smell another alpha’s pheromones—his senses permanently attuned to Yoon Seoyul after the mark—he still knew. This man was coating him in his own pheromones that were gradually replacing the remnants of Yoon Seoyul’s calming pheromones on him.

"You know you would have been so much safer if we weren’t inside a dungeon with no one to break us apart."

"Don’t forget. There’s a time limit to how long you can hold me like this."

Cheon Areum spoke coldly. By now, every trace of familiarity had been washed from him. The last fragments of Yoon Seoyul’s calming pheromones were gone, stripped away completely. Whatever warmth had softened his presence vanished with them. Inside, however, the negative energy escalated violently—an uncontrollable urge to wreak havoc clawing at every corner of his being, straining against the calm he wore on the surface.
