The two of them got on the elevator while Feng Yi, one hand in his pocket, continued to ask, "How many people are on the other side, have you informed the police?"

"I’ve already informed the police, but I don’t know how many people are involved."

They stepped out of the elevator together and got into the car, which sped away in a cloud of dust.

Lu Jinghan followed the surveillance video sent by Assistant Zhang, driving towards the suburbs. After nearly half an hour of driving, the two cars were no longer in sight.

They were already in the outskirts, where there were no cameras at all. Lu Jinghan and Feng Yi got out of the car and looked around.

Upon discovering the tire tracks on the ground, they exchanged a glance and drove, following the tire marks all the way.

The car finally stopped at a place full of reeds, where the two black cars were parked not far away. Lu Jinghan and Feng Yi got out of their car, swiftly moved behind the cars, only to find them empty.

"Those bastards," Feng Yi cursed, frowning.

Lu Jinghan looked around; apart from the reeds, there was nowhere one could hide. He motioned with his chin towards the reed patch: "Let’s check over there, be careful, neither of us is armed."

"Don’t worry."

The two quickly darted into the reeds, and after only a few steps, they heard voices: "So we’ve kidnapped the person and just locked them in a wooden box."

"Forget about that, we’re paid to solve problems for others and do as the buyers say. But I’m not hearing any movement inside."

One of them kicked the tightly sealed wooden box: "Damn, could they be dead? We were just supposed to kidnap, not kill."

"What do we do? We should open the box quickly."

Behind them, Lu Jinghan signaled with his eyes to Feng Yi, and the two swiftly subdued the kidnappers from behind.

"Who are you? Let go of me!" One of the kidnappers yelled loudly.

Lu Jinghan raised his hand and struck his head, knocking him out, and soon the other one was knocked unconscious too.

Leaving them aside, Lu Jinghan and Feng Yi hurriedly pried open the box; Gu Nanxi lay inside motionless, his face deathly pale.

Lu Jinghan placed his fingers on Gu Nanxi’s neck, "There’s still a pulse, we need to get him to the hospital immediately."

The two lifted Gu Nanxi out, and Lu Jinghan carried him to the car: "You handle these kidnappers; I need to get him to the hospital first. The police should be here soon."

Upon reaching the car, Lu Jinghan opened the passenger seat door, placed Gu Nanxi inside, secured the seatbelt, then circled around the hood and got into the driver’s seat.
