Chapter 217: Shopping To Her Heart’s Content

"Fizzy..." Rory scratched Liam’s arm with a goofy smile. She wanted to kiss him, but she didn’t want to make the old taxi driver feel awkward. So, she resorted to touching him otherwise.

"What?" Liam chuckled. He was ticklish. She was scratching so softly that it felt like tickles.

"Where are you taking me?" she asked. She was so curious. She could see that they are going toward the city, but she didn’t know where he is going to take her or what he was planning for that day.

She was too excited.

"It’s a surprise!" Liam pushed her face away. Why is she this cute? He can’t keep his surprise if she looks cutely at him like this.

"But Fizzy..." Rory pouted. "I need to know... see... I am not even dressed properly... I am not even wearing makeup and... Eww! I stink..." she found random reasons that she didn’t even mean.

Liam chuckled. "Since when do you care about all that?" he asked. He knew the answer. Forever. She only had stopped caring about that after childbirth probably because she didn’t have to time to. She was raising Ellie alone, after all.

His heart went heavy.

"You are dressed warmly," he said kissing her forehead. "That’s enough. You’re so pretty and you smell like flowers. So, don’t worry," he held her hand and placed it on his lap.

"Really?" Rory pressed her lips. But she couldn’t control her smile hearing his compliment. She was wearing moisturizer and basic makeup. She would have dressed up prettier if she knew Liam would be here.

She was happy that Liam liked her as she is.

That’s why she was surprised when Liam stopped at the high street of the city. He said that they can buy her some clothes. There were a lot of stores and Rory naturally gravitated toward the baby stores.

"Ellie would need a thicker winter coat for the snow," she said.

Liam glared at her and pulled her to the expensive-looking store on the street. "I am buying for you," he insisted.

Rory agreed. Why would she not want new clothes? She is not stupid!

Usually, she goes shopping when he goes out with his "boys". So there were rare moments she remembered when he chose her clothes. But he never complained about her choices. Whatever style she wore, he would appreciate her in them. She never knew which type of clothes he liked because he liked everything.

And that’s why she was surprised when he chose the clothes on the rack for her. She wore a lot of styles, and she didn’t think that he liked "cute" styles. Most of the clothes he picked were dresses above the knee with pleasant monotone colors.

"I am a mother. Are you sure I can still wear dresses above my knee?" she whispered.

He looked at her as if she was asking him to eat brussels sprouts. "And?" he questioned. "You’re 24! Not 48!"

He then proceeded to get the accessories to go with the dresses. She never would have thought those would have worked. But his choices made sense.

"Okay, I’ll try..." Rory decided to give them all a try.

"Show me each of them," he said.

Rory was surprised. And it made her heart all warm and fuzzy. She wanted to do this with him all her life.

So, like the heroine of a romance drama, she tried on the dresses and made a catwalk in front of him while he sat cross-legged on the armchair.

She enjoyed wearing the dresses and showing them to him and he enjoyed her wearing the dresses.

"So, which one should I choose?" she asked.

"Wear the blue one... the whole set," he said. "It suited your eyes so well!"

"Okay," Rory said patting her heart.

What’s with my heart pounding this much? I might die if this continued...

She went to the trial room with the blue dress and the shoes and accessories that went with it.

"I got a new dress... My husband bought me a new dress..." She couldn’t help but sing in joy as she changed.

When she came out of the trial room, she was surprised to see her dear husband paying for a bunch of clothes.

Don’t tell me... Did he tell them to pack them all? Eeeek! I wanted to hear him say that! When did Liam turn into a romantic?

She was not complaining.

"You didn’t have to buy them all," she said just for the sake of saying it. This is the first time he bought her clothes. She is not going to complain much.

"They all didn’t cost much. We should have gone to some other branded store... I’ll take you to the shop the celebrities buy their clothes. They will have expensive clothes," he walked with his chest puffed up.

He was looking far ahead, and he had a satisfied smile on his face. He never thought that dressing up his wife would give him this much joy. He thought he would be bored when she shopped and that’s why he didn’t go with her in the past.

But this is nice...How much have I missed in the past? He could only sigh.

"I can hold some bags," Rory tried to get some bags. But he shifted all the ten bags to his one hand and held her hand with the other.

"Hey, shall we book a room in a hotel?" he asked.

"Hmm?" Rory raised her brows. "What are you planning, dear?" she smirked.

"To store the bags..." he chuckled shaking the bags in front of her face. "Get your mind out of the gutter, woman!" he slapped her back.

"Oww!" Rory jumped.

Yeah, it really appears that he just wants a place to store the bags.

"Wait... this is a salon, right?" he pointed at a store. "Why don’t you go do whatever..." he pointed at her face.

"Okay," Rory shrugged. Since her husband wants to splurge on her, she will let him spend on her. It’s fine to splurge once in a while.

"But we are getting you something first," she pushed him inside a menswear store.

And she could only smile seeing Liam acting like a doofus there. What happened to the style expert who chose all those clothes for me?

She was used to choosing him clothes and she chose some clothes for him. She chose some formals too as he would get busy with his meetings and relaunching his company. She found some cufflinks and tie clips she liked.

When he was in the fitting room, she paid for them all. She wanted to. If he likes to spend on her, she will spend on him too.

Liam left her in the salon and went out. Rory did not find that normal. She had a feeling that he is trying to do something. He looked a little weird, and nervous as if he was looking for something. But he was very happy too.

She called Derick as they were doing her hair. "What is he planning?" she asked. "I know you know. Tell me right this instant!" she gritted her teeth as Derick only gave his abhorrent chuckles as an answer.

She got so mad and ended the call.

But then she thought about everything that happened that day and all her anger went away. She knew Liam was planning something. And she decided to wait and see what it was. If he wanted to surprise her, she will get surprised for him.

Ah, but what could that be?

She couldn’t help but think.

Liam came back right as she finished in the salon. He brought her to a very nice restaurant for lunch. Rory loved the wine there.

After that, he got her in another taxi, and they traveled. Liam didn’t tell her where he was taking her, and she didn’t ask. She was feeling a little tired and leaning on his shoulders she fell asleep for some time.

When she woke up, it was already dark. Although it was evening, they get less daytime as winter had arrived. She didn’t even know where she was.

"Here, change into this," Liam passed her a pair of boots and she changed her heels to the boots, no questions asked.

So we are getting on a hill or something...? Wait... is it what I think it is?

She turned and looked deeply at his face. He was sitting with his lips pressed. His eyes were closed but his eyelids were trembling. She knew he was not sleeping.

"Where are we? Shouldn’t we get back to Ellie?" she asked.

"We can go there... We’ll be a little late. But we can get there before midnight," he said.

"Okay," she shrugged. Hugging his arms, she leaned on his shoulder.

"I love you so much, Fizzy," she said.

Thank you for arranging a proposal!

She had a feeling that must be it. He was keeping his hands inside his pockets all the time and she could vaguely discern a box. It could be an earring. But he’d been feeling bad that she is only wearing their wedding band for a long time.

She knew it. She knew her dearest Fizzy is going to give her a proposal. She never got the proposal every woman gets at least once in her lifetime because theirs was an arranged marriage.

And now she couldn’t wait to see how he is going to do it.

"I know. I love you too," he patted her head with a smile.
