The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 248: The Scary Truth
Rory looked to her side. Her beautiful blooming eyes were marred with strains of red. Her mascara ran down as she wiped her eyes, making her appear more distraught.
"He’s... he never changed and..." Rory bit her lower lips. "Let’s talk about you, dad," she looked at him with a smile that was hard to bring up. "How are you doing? I heard Sidney came for a visit?"
Lennon was looking at her unwaveringly.
"I know what you are thinking," she stared right back. "I said the same thing before I made you bring me to your lair," she scoffed. "You don’t have to believe me..."
She couldn’t stare into his eyes for long. She didn’t understand how he could stare at her like that. His stare gave her the chills.
Bowing her head, she played with her fingernails for some time. Her entire plan was to show herself to be vulnerable enough to let him "manipulate" her like he wants to.
Till now, no one could figure out what he wanted. But it appeared that he didn’t have her bait. But she was not planning on giving up.
"You wanted to meet me?" she came straight to the point.
"Is he hiding out there?" Lennon asked pointing at the door she came in.
This room had no two-way mirrors as most interrogation rooms have but they are watching everything live using cameras. Lennon’s smart and he must have figured it out.
Rory sensed the danger in this situation. If something happens to the cameras, they’d be blind and she’d be alone, trapped with a psychopath. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"Who?" Rory raised her brows. She was not scared. Liam is just behind that door. If anything happens, he will get to her and protect her.
But she could see that Lennon does not believe that she and Liam had separated. She pressed her hand on her abdomen as she came up with another plan.
"You know who," Lennon said and his eyes ended up on her hand. The corner of his lips twitched, and he clutched the chains hard.
Clearing her throat, Rory looked at him. She immediately pulled her hand from her abdomen as if she doesn’t want him to figure out that she is pregnant.
She was told not to lie to Lennon as it could be used against them in the trial.
She was not pregnant to her knowledge, but she thought that she can lie, especially when she is not saying anything. She cannot be responsible for what Lennon interprets from her behavior, right? Even his lawyers can’t argue against this.
And right then, she could see the expression on Lennon’s face turning. He was not calm anymore. He was angry.
She was right all along. Lennon doesn’t care about much, except that he does not like her to be happy. Or it could be that he doesn’t want Liam to be happy.
Having figured that out, she stood up with a smile on her face. Casually, she stretched herself and looked at Lennon.
"I don’t know what you want, William," she shrugged. Rubbing her hands together, she walked to the glass partition.
Lennon looked at her with his eyebrows furrowed.
"You wanted to meet me. I thought that’s why you threw a tantrum and took back everything you confessed. I heard that you even tried to kill yourself. You can call me whatever you want. I do care for you, you know. I’m not Aurora Caroll. I’m Aurora Roberts. I really thought you might be distressed... That you might need help..."
She placed her hand on her chest and titled her head to the side in a sympathizing manner. But the curve of her lips was patronizing, and so was her tone of voice. Not many would figure out that she was mocking him, but she knew Lennon would figure it out.
Just within a moment, she had brought him back to his life as William Caroll and his life with the woman he hated.
She wanted to provoke him to do something.
Just as if she thought, Lennon’s face started twitching. He must have realized that she is provoking him and with a deep breath, he calmed down.
"You look surprised I know about your real name, dad," she smiled with fake concern. "I knew. I knew it that day I was staring at the field of roses in your mansion. I had a burner phone with me that day and Ian told me everything. I get it. People see you as a psychopath, but I understand..."
She walked back to her seat.
"All your life, growing up, you were hearing all these weird noises from your mother while you were stuffed in the wooden chest in the room... I get it... The times you saw your mother with bruises and the different men and their abuses... It’s not your fault she took it all out on you.
"It was not your fault she called you Minger when she never bathed you, it was not your fault you were called Billy the b@stard... It was the fault of Aurora Caroll who couldn’t keep her legs closed and it was the fault of her beautiful red hair that attracted men like moths to a flame... I get it."
She let out a deep sigh. She saw Lennon getting calm. He went so calm that it became eerie. And it was then she knew--her plan is working.
He is breaking.
This was the thing that disconnected him from reality when he was just a boy. He blamed his mother and her sexuality which she used to get drugs for the abuses he endured. Somehow, he associated red hair with sexuality. Maybe he heard someone say it.
That made him hate women with red hair. That made him see every woman with red hair as an object of sexual desire and he hurt them because he thought he was returning what he got from his mother. Or he thought that he is saving their future children from having a fate like his.
Was it pitiful? yes.
But will she pity him? No?
Not everyone who faced abuse in their childhood turned out to become a psychopath. Many dealt with it and turned compassionate.
This guy killed many women and he tried to frame her husband just because he did not want him to be happy! No way she would pity him.
"And as if that was not enough, you weren’t getting any love from the Roberts family. They all treated you as an outsider," she said.
She used to feel bad, but she doesn’t anymore. This guy came to this country after killing the woman who showered him with love and treated him as her own child for five years.
He was not a "troubled" kid when he entered the country. He was a murderer. Showing love wouldn’t have changed anything. He was broken even before that.
In fact, she believed ignoring him had saved Liam’s family from annihilation. If they cared about what he did, they would have been long dead.
It’s a scary thought. But it is true.
