The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 253: The Prank
As Rory was getting distressed about getting "caught", she noticed that Liam had become calm. With a bright smile that illuminated his entire being, he pointed at the stall from where the roll rolled out.
There were a pair of men’s oxfords visible through the gap and they heard the sound of clicking heels and panicked whispers of a woman.
They were the only couple in the bathroom. Rory let out a sigh.
But who are they? Are they married like us? Or... is something salacious going on here? Did we catch someone doing something?
The naughtiness of Rory’s youth awakened. She wanted to walk there and disturb them. But then she decided not to. She should not poke her nose in other people’s business.
"I think this place is haunted," Liam said.
"What the..." Rory glared at Liam for such an absurd suggestion.
But Liam winked at her with a cheeky smirk. Without even a word, Rory understood that Liam just wanted to have fun with the other sneaking couple. They used to do that a lot back in their school days.
"Well ghosts can’t give me an answer. You can. Does your wife know that I am pregnant?" Rory asked holding back her laughter. "When are you going to divorce her and marry me?"
Liam’s face went serious for a moment before he gathered himself. "Why should I divorce my wife if you are pregnant? My wife and I will raise the child together. So, don’t bother," he said in a conceited tone.
"What are you talking about? What about me?" Rory said with her voice shaking. Not because of choking emotions but because she couldn’t control her laughter.
"What about you?" Liam maintained his indifferent tone. "I’ll pay you."
"You scoundrel?" Rory playfully hit his chest. "How can you do this to me? I trusted you. You said you love only me and yet you..."
"Stop it!" Liam roared. Holding her wrist, he gently kissed her hand. "Don’t act like a shrewd. Do you have any idea how much a divorce cost these days? I do love you. You’re the love of my life. But I can’t divorce her. Can’t you understand, love..." his voice softened.
"We can have this working. Is my love not enough for you? What does a piece of paper change?" Liam continued with his act.
"I can’t believe this..." Rory sounded despondent. "We are over. Do you hear me? We are over!"
Rory walked to the door with a larger gait.
"Stop!" Liam shouted and gently hugged her. "You cannot leave with my baby!"
"Watch me!" Rory pretended to struggle and even dropped her purse on the floor for added effects.
Liam still hugging her punched the wall with his fist. "You cannot leave!"
Rory held back her giggles and shrieked for help. "Help, Someone! Please..."
*Bang*
The door of the occupied stall opened and out popped a handsome man with his fists raised. He flew at them with his blue eyes focused and his face clenched in righteous anger. Behind him out popped the head of a blond woman, her eyes wide and curious.
Oh my God! They are the Fitzgeralds!
Rory sensed that Jeremy Fitzgerald had no intention of slowing down and she had a feeling that the muscular man could punch Liam out of existence. Her beloved Liam is a fragile blonde. He cannot suffer any damage to his pretty head.
"No, no, no, Mr. Fitzgerald!" Rory turned Liam out of the trajectory of the punch. Liam sensed the danger, and he pulled her back to protect her.
"Please don’t hit my husband!" Rory shouted. "He’s not hurting me!"
Rory gulped at the fist directly in front of her face just a foot away. Liam was at her side, and he pushed her back and covered her.
Jeremy rolled his wrist before taking a step back.
"Oh, it’s you guys..." Jerlina walked out of the stall. "Joel, it’s the Roberts couple that makes the news these days...Bobby keeps talking about them...?" She added as Jeremy didn’t seem to get it.
"LR Holdings? The serial mur..." he cleared his throat. "So, you’re the kids who fought against the influential serial killer and won?"
Rory didn’t know why they are addressed as "kids" when they have kids. They are adults, right? But then maybe for someone in their thirties, those in their twenties might look like kids.
And maybe their little prank must have been so childish for them anyway.
Was it too much?
Well, it’s done. And they cannot change it.
And he does look mature and wise...and handsome. Very handsome!
"That’s just my wife. She’s the brave one. She saved me," Liam said with a reverent smile.
"Yeah, she is brave, Joel. I told you how she went to the lair of Lennon Roberts and got all the proof... She’s gutsy," Jerlina said holding Jeremy’s arm.
Rory scratched her ear as her face went red out of shyness. "I’m not that...I was so scared. But he was in jail, and I had to..."
"Hmm," Jeremy hummed and looked at Jerlina. "So, you guys enacted a drama... Why?" he asked.
"Well..." Rory looked at Liam for him to answer. He was the one who started it. She just joined.
Liam raised his brows at her. He looked nervous as he was put on the spot.
"Robert Milroy mentions us?" Rory asked Jerlina. Her husband looked like he didn’t have the answer. She didn’t know why he lost all his charm out of nowhere in front of Jeremy Fitzgerald.
So, she took it upon herself to change the topic.
"He helped me a lot. I wouldn’t have been able to do anything if not for his help. I am eternally grateful for him," Rory said. As she spoke, her hand ended up on her chest. She meant every word.
Jerlina smiled. "Bobby’s a good guy. And... you two... I’ve been following the case a lot. You guys are together for a long time, aren’t you?" she asked Rory. "Joel, they are childhood sweethearts. That’s adorable, don’t you think?" she asked her husband.
Jeremy nodded with a smile. Without any words spoken, Rory could see how much he loves his wife.
"We were twelve when we first met," Rory looked at Liam. "Married when we were eighteen and had our first child when we were twenty-three. Yeah... we are childhood sweethearts. We’ve seen the best and worst of each other."
"Hopefully a lot of best than worst nowadays..." Liam held her hand. "I was so terrible before I met her," he smiled at the loving couple in front of them.
Rory laughed and she could see the Fitzgeralds were interested in them and so they went to the hall and continued their conversation. In a short time, they got close enough to exchange their private phone numbers.
Rory was glad. Although they are in different lines of business, it is their honor to be acquainted with an honest man like Jeremy Fitzwilliam.
