Chapter 258: Planning To Visit

The next morning Rory was not surprised to see that the first pages of every news outlet were about the verdict in William Caroll’s case.

None of them were sympathetic to Lennon, of course. It would have gone well considering the open threat Lennon gave to the judge. All the papers mentioned the words spoken by Lennon after his verdict.

He removed every doubt any rational person might have had about him. He made sure to let everyone know that he was the killer.

Well, she didn’t get on the internet yet and so she doesn’t know if there are supporters of Lennon still. The internet is a weird place. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

She was a little surprised to see pictures of Lennon in the courtroom splashed everywhere though.

But it was understandable that they wanted to print Lennon’s reaction to his verdict. And there were a couple more pictures.

And she noticed the deathly glare of Lennon in one of the pictures. The focus was on Lennon and judging by where he was standing and his posture, Rory figured that he might have been looking at them.

That was a bit chilling.

She couldn’t take her eyes off that photograph. Lennon’s eyes were so focused and sharp, and with the slight smirk on his lips, he just looked like how a psychopath would look.

Like Norman Bates’s psycho look. Legit scary stuff.

No wonder the papers published that image. They wanted to show that he was a psycho. Lennon was not trying hard.

Rory rubbed her forehead with a sigh. She heard her phone ring. It was Mrs. Delport.

"I’m reading the papers," Mrs. Delport said. There were no pleasantries exchanged, no talk about the weather and Mrs. Delport went straight to the matter.

"He’s going to come for you. He will die trying."

"Well, gee! That’s very reassuring, Mrs. Delport," she said.

"Should I sugarcoat it then?" Mrs. Delport asked. "By the way, congratulations on your pregnancy."

"Wait...How did you..." Rory rubbed her forehead. "Never mind. So, what are you going to do about Lennon?" she asked.

She had no idea how Mrs. Delport knows about her pregnancy. She appeared to be not caring for her for a while. But apparently, she still knows all her secrets. She didn’t want to know how.

Those people who grew up during tough times are scary. Nothing fazes them and they will go to any extent for what they want to achieve.

Mrs. Delport is on their side. Rory was thankful for that.

"Your husband will take care of that for you," Mrs. Delport said. Rory was honestly surprised. "So, don’t you worry..."

Mrs. Delport’s voice went low, and Rory sensed the sadness in it. "Does grandma know about the verdict?" she asked.

There was no answer from Mrs. Delport. That was the answer Rory dreaded.

Dementia is the worst possible thing that could have happened to someone like her grandmother. She protected her for years and she is not all there to be happy to see the fruits of her labor.

"We’re planning on visiting grandma," Rory said. "I’ll decide when to leave after seeing her condition."

She was informing Mrs. Delport. Mrs. Delport understood her. She didn’t refuse her.

"Do what you will. I for one, don’t think that Agnes Roberts would want to see her granddaughter deteriorate in real-time. But... she needs her family by her side when she..."

Mrs. Delport couldn’t finish her sentence and her voice shook.

"Hold tight, Mrs. Delport. We can get this through..." Rory said and ended the call.

Rory covered her face as tears formed in her eyes. She opened her eyes and wiped her face as she felt the big hand on her back.

"My grandmother’s condition must be very worse. That’s why Mrs. Delport didn’t refuse my visit," she said. "If I am feeling this sad for my grandmother, I only can imagine how hard it would be for Mrs. Delport. She was her everything and she devoted her life to her..." Rory sniffed.

Liam sat beside her and hugged her.

"Thank you for suggesting the visit," Rory looked at Liam. She didn’t plan for it. Her dear husband was the one who came up with that idea. She was thankful for his thoughtfulness.

Liam shrugged it off. "Maybe we can leave with dad in our jet," he said. They were planning on visiting there after a week or so. But since Frank is here, they all can leave together.

"That’s a great idea!" Rory kissed him. "They’d be comfortable in the jet with the baby.

As that was settled, Rory’s attention turned at the frightful image of Lennon on the papers.

"What are you going to do about him?" she asked.

Liam shrugged.

"What?" Rory asked again. He didn’t look like he was willing to speak about it to her.

"Seriously? You’re not going to tell me?" she asked again as he shrugged.

By now, she was a little upset that she was not in his circle of trust. She stood up and walked to the kitchen.

Liam followed her. "Plausible deniability, Cherry," he whispered in her ears.

Rory stopped and looked at him. If he is saying this, then that means that he is going to handle it illegally.

Well, that’s all she wanted to know.

"Be careful then," she patted his chest. "I don’t want you falling in the claws of the law ever again."

"Oh, what am I going to do if my white knight is ditching me?" he whined.

"I’m not joking," Rory said with a stern face. She truly didn’t want to step foot inside a police station or court ever again. She didn’t even want to talk to a lawyer again.

"Understand," Liam surrendered.

"Good," Rory smiled. "What do you want for breakfast? Never mind," Rory turned. "Claire likes pancakes. Frank likes waffles. Maybe I’ll make both..."

Frank and Claire insisted on staying in a hotel, but Rory insisted that they stay in their house. This probably was the first time they were staying here. She wanted them to have good memories of this place.

Liam sat on the counter watching her cook. "So... about your studies..." he started.

She didn’t show any interest in continuing her studies. But he couldn’t accept it. It’s such a waste of her intelligence.

"What about it?" Rory asked without looking at him.

She sounded angry. Liam should have left it at that. But he couldn’t.

"You’re not planning on continuing...?" he asked.

"I already told you," Rory’s voice went deep.

"But~"

"Are you ashamed of me, Fitzwilliam? Do you feel embarrassed to introduce me as your "stay-at-home" wife?" she turned and look at him and her face was red.

Uh-oh!

Liam gulped.

I’ve done it!
