Chapter 416 - 416: King Returns

In truth, John and Steph had always despised each other.

"I want to leave now. There's nothing important here anymore." John declared, his voice calm and detached as he turned to leave without a second glance at Steph.

The alliance was now under his control, and Britain wouldn't dare make any improper moves. As for the base, the remaining members of the alliance would manage it just fine. After all, their lives were in John's hands, and no one dared defy him.

The reaction from John left everyone in stunned confusion.

Was that all?

The young man, the so-called "joker," had been dismissed so easily?

Steph, who had been bracing himself to show his superiority, was embarrassed. He had expected John to retaliate with arrogance, giving him the opportunity to prove his own pride and power. But instead, John had simply ignored him.

It was a blow to Steph's pride. A punch that was powerless. Too rude.

"Did I let you go?" Steph finally exploded, his face darkening with anger.

John paused in his steps but didn't turn around. He seemed uninterested, yet his words came out as sharp as a blade, "Don't be mad. I don't have time to waste with you, young man."

Mad?

Steph's blood boiled at the casual dismissal.

Just as he was about to lose his temper, a voice interrupted.

"Steph, don't forget what we need to do," came the calm voice of a woman dressed in cyan robes.

Steph froze, momentarily surprised by the sudden appearance of the woman. He spoke reluctantly, "I haven't forgotten, but I can't stand this joker any longer."

"To fight with a joker? What does that make you?" the woman in cyan asked, her voice laced with disapproval as she glanced at John.

Steph licked his lips, eyes narrowing with intent. "I want the sword in his hand."

The woman's eyes flickered with something like recognition. She, too, had seen the value in the sword, knowing it was a treasure. But she remained calm, choosing her words carefully.

"We're not in the right position to act yet. We must follow the master's orders before we do anything rash. Let's deal with this later," she advised, her tone firm.

Steph scowled. "Trouble? I don't think it's difficult. He's just a joker."

"Stupid!" The woman in cyan's voice rose in anger. "Have you ever considered why he has the sword in the first place? What if someone even more powerful shows up?"

The woman's words hit with weight. Clearly, she was more strategic than Steph, thinking several steps ahead.

Steph, realizing she was right, fell silent. But it was clear that his desire for the sword hadn't waned.

The woman in cyan, sensing his lingering intentions, let out a sharp snort. "The master's plans don't involve this. I know exactly what you've been up to."

Steph's eyes widened in shock.

She knew?

He had been under the impression that their mission was to appear in the southern part of the US, but somehow, he had ended up here. His true reason for being here, however, was far more personal. Steph had come to kill a fellow martial artist he held a grudge against.

It was forbidden to take such action on the Mountain, so Steph had waited for the right moment, and when the chance arose, he had pursued the target into the northwest of the country, where he had finally managed to kill him.

But he hadn't expected someone to be watching him the entire time.

And now, the woman in cyan had laid bare his actions.

Steph didn't argue further, but his mind was buzzing with frustration. He had been followed, and now his every move was under scrutiny.

After a long pause, Steph sighed, his anger cooling. "Fine."

He turned his gaze back to John, sneering. "Joker, I'll find you again. That sword will be mine."

John, hearing this, couldn't help but feel speechless.

In truth, it was Steph who was being unreasonable. The sword belonged to John, yet Steph saw himself as the rightful claimant — the real robber.

John was tempted to teach him a lesson, but he decided against it. After all, Steph had already left.

With that behind him, John made his way back to his sisters, eager for their admiration.

He was certain they had heard of his triumph on Mount Oracle. Surely they would take pride in what he had done.

What kind of reward awaited him? He wondered, his heart racing with anticipation.

He opened the door, but instead of the warm congratulations he had imagined, he was met with something entirely different.

Queenie, a slender and elegant beauty, sat calmly on the sofa.

Hailey, with a sarcastic edge to her voice, looked up and remarked, "The King of Horizon, you've come back."

John forced a bitter smile. He had hoped for a warmer reception, but there was none. He was about to speak, to explain what had happened, but Queenie cut him off before he could get a word out.

"I already know about what happened with my sister," she said softly.

John froze. He hadn't expected her to be so direct, and it caught him off guard.

Before he could respond, Queenie continued, her voice gentle yet firm. "But let's focus on what's important now. You've returned as the King, but there's still much to be done."
