The Smiling Death-Chapter 299: The Struggle Continues

Amon tried to see what was coming out of it. He narrowed his eyes.

Thump!

Thump!

Thump!

His heart beat louder and faster. From the shattered entrance of the ancient ruin, something enormous stepped out.

Everything was dark. But Amon could see it clearly. The ground trembled.

Amon’s breath caught in his throat.

A huge gorilla emerged fully into the open.

Its fur was pitch black. Its eyes glowed red. It stood over twenty meters tall, its body packed with absurdly dense muscle, veins bulging like coiled ropes beneath its skin. Every step it took cracked the earth beneath its feet.

Then it opened its mouth and roared.

ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!!!

The sound wasn’t just loud; it was violent.

A visible shockwave blasted outward, flattening what little remained of the forest, sending dust, ash, and debris flying in every direction.

Amon felt his ears ring. His chest vibrated painfully as the roar rolled over him like a tidal wave.

The bird abomination froze mid-air. Its crimson eyes shifted.

Slowly... deliberately... it turned its massive head away from Amon and locked onto the newcomer. The new enemy. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

For a brief moment, the world held its breath. Two apex monsters stared at each other.

Neither backed down. Neither felt fear. They kept staring at each other.

The gorilla beat its chest once, then twice with both hands. The gorilla monster was indicating that it was ready for battle.

BOOM! BOOM!

The impact echoed like thunder.

The bird screeched back, wings spreading fully, revealing a terrifying wingspan that blotted out the sky.

SCREEEEEECH!!

Amon didn’t waste the opportunity.

’This must be my chance. Yeah! I need to get out of here! Now!’

Gritting his teeth, he forced his broken body to move. He crawled first, dragging himself through scorched soil, then shakily pushed himself upright using a shattered tree trunk for support.

Pain exploded through his ribs.

"Ghh– !"

His vision swam, but he didn’t stop.

’If I stay here... I’ll get crushed. I will die between them.’

Darkness flickered weakly around his feet as he limped away, putting every last bit of distance he could between himself and the coming disaster.

Behind him, the gorilla moved. It charged forward in the direction of the other monster.

Each step shook the ground like an earthquake. Craters formed beneath its feet as it sprinted forward with terrifying speed, its massive fists clenched tight, eyes burning with pure territorial fury.

The bird monster answered instantly. Its wings snapped downward.

BOOOOOM!!

A hurricane of wind erupted as it launched itself forward, screeching furiously as it dove straight at the incoming gorilla.

Both abominations collided against each other with a heavy impact.

KRAAAAAAAAAASH!!

The impact was cataclysmic.

A shockwave exploded outward, ripping apart the ground, uprooting what few trees remained, and hurling debris kilometers away. Amon was thrown forward again, slamming into the dirt as the air itself seemed to rupture.

The gorilla caught the bird mid-dive. Its massive hands clamped around one of the creature’s wings.

CRACK!

Bone snapped.

The bird screamed in agony, slashing wildly with its talons, carving deep gouges into the gorilla’s chest. Blood thick and dark splashed onto the ruined land.

The gorilla roared back, rage incarnate, and swung.

BOOOOM!!

The bird’s body was smashed straight into the ground, creating a massive crater. Before it could recover, the gorilla raised its fist high and brought it down like a falling mountain.

BOOOOOOM!!!

The earth split beneath them. But the bird wasn’t finished. It was not weak. It wouldn’t die before giving its enemy a proper fight.

Dark blue mana surged violently as it unleashed another beam point-blank. The explosion engulfed both monsters, turning the battlefield into a storm of fire, light, and shattered stone.

Amon crawled farther away, coughing blood, barely conscious.

Behind him, the clash of two rank-five or higher. Monsters continued, their roars and screeches tearing the night apart.

He didn’t look back.

He couldn’t.

All he knew was one thing.

’I need to survive...’

Just then, he saw them. The same kind of gorilla monsters. The ones who had been swallowed by the beam of the bird-type monster.

And it was not one... but many of them. The same kind of monster in huge numbers.

’Damn!’

Amon summoned his sword. Darkness wrapped around his weapon.

But then he saw something in the eyes of those monsters.

’They are... afraid. Some of them are even getting out of here. It seems I, along with the bird monster, had entered the territory of these gorillas.’

Amon didn’t waste his time and started to run. The monsters didn’t stop him.

Tonight, once again, Amon had understood just how small and weak he truly was compared to the world.

While behind him, the two beings continued to clash.

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

It was pure chaos. All the trees in the surroundings were breaking, the ground shattering.

The gorilla grabbed the enemy mid-air. Its huge muscular hands wrapped around the bird’s body.

It swung the flying monster through the air and threw it away.

Unfortunately, the monster was thrown in the same direction where Amon was running. Its huge form was going to land where Amon and the other small monsters were.

Amon’s instincts screamed at him. He turned his head back.

"What the hell? Cursed it!" Amon called as much darkness as he possibly could from the surroundings.

Veins bulged on his forehead. His head throbbed violently. But he pushed past his limits.

His speed increased tremendously. He jumped onto a tree, then from one to another.

BOOM!

The bird monster fell very close to Amon.

SCREEEEETTCHH!

It let out a loud scream. It was a painful one. Amon nearly lost his balance from the impact.

Dust flew everywhere. The earth shattered. If that wasn’t enough, the huge gorilla roared even more wildly from its position.

ROARRRRR!

It beat its chest multiple times.

BOOM!

BOOM!

Then it bent its knees, and with one push, it jumped high into the sky. Its destination was the lying bird monster, which was trying to get up.

Just then, the gorilla beast landed on it.

BOOOOOMMM!

This spread a huge impact over the whole area. The earth broke everywhere, scattering rocks and trees in all directions.

And again, this time, Amon was thrown even farther.
