The Smiling Death-Chapter 337: Let’s Go On Date!
Amon sat there while thinking deeply. ’Malphas must be as strong as Roland... or maybe stronger than him.’
New possibilities came to his mind. The old man really wanted to go back to his home... if it still existed there.
Amon could ask him to come with him. That way his safety would be ensured.
Then another thought appeared. ’Let’s take Scarlett first. I can also enjoy my time with her.’
But Amon, being Amon, rather than listening to his brain, he went with his heart.
Scarlett glanced at him and, noticing his distant look, asked curiously, "What are you thinking so deeply about?"
Amon came out of his thoughts. He blinked several times and then smirked at her. "Nothing... just thinking about you and me... together on a date."
Scarlett nearly choked on her food. "Cough! ...What?!" She coughed first, then asked with disbelief, wondering what bullshit he was saying now.
Amon looked at her innocently. "What? I said I was thinking about both of us on a date."
Scarlett shook her head tiredly. By now she should be used to his antics.
"You and your thoughts," she said flatly. "Like you could even go on a date with me... that too in a place like this."
Amon took his chance.
’Let’s ask her to come with me next week. Where Vetaal said to go.’
With a casual tone, he said, "Since it came to this... how about going on a date with me next week?"
Scarlett froze. She looked at him with wide eyes.
Amon found her expression cute. He smiled.
With confusion on her face, she asked, "What do you mean go on a date? Why would I? No, that’s not important... even if I go with you, where would we go?"
Amon answered confidently, "Of course, to the forest. We can explore the surrounding area together, can’t we? It will be fun! We might find something there."
Scarlett stared at him for a long second after he suggested the forest.
Then she slowly sighed. With a plain expression, she said, "I won’t come," and returned to eating her food.
Amon blinked. "Huh? Why not?" he asked immediately.
Without looking at him, she replied calmly, "I just said I won’t."
But Amon, being Amon, did not listen.
With confidence, he said, "We will go. And we might find something new. Something suspicious. Maybe a hint. Or maybe even a clue about getting out."
Scarlett kept eating as if she did not care.
"Or..." Amon continued dramatically, leaning slightly closer, "maybe we just spend some romantic time together." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
She slowly turned her head and looked at him.
He was still talking. "We could walk under the gray sky, side by side. If a monster appears, I’ll protect you. Wait... there’s no monster here... anyway, if you get tired, I’ll carry you– "
Before he could finish.
Tap!
She raised her right hand and lightly hit him on the head.
"Ouch!" Amon held his head. "Why did you hit me?!"
With her brows slightly furrowed, she replied flatly, "I said I’m not coming."
"But why?" he asked, rubbing the spot dramatically.
Scarlett looked at him with a tired expression. "Why should I come? Give me one reason."
Amon opened his mouth. Then closed it. Then opened it again, trying to find a good reason.
’Should I tell her the truth... about finding something that might lead us outside?’
But a mischievous smile appeared on his face. That would be no fun. He would enjoy that day as it was. He would only tell her at the right time.
With a foolish smile, he said, "Because... it will be fun?"
She gave him a blank look. "That’s not a reason."
Amon leaned back in his chair. "Fine. Then I’ll do anything in return."
Scarlett raised an eyebrow. "Anything?"
"Yes."
She thought for a moment. Then she shook her head. "There’s nothing I need you to do."
"Come on," Amon insisted. "There must be something."
"No."
"There has to be."
"There isn’t."
They went back and forth like that for a while.
Julian and Ethan from the other table even glanced over, watching them argue quietly while eating.
Finally, Amon went silent. He lowered his head slightly. His shoulders dropped. His expression slowly changed.
Scarlett narrowed her eyes as she watched him.
He looked up at her again. His eyes trembled slightly. His lips quivered. His voice softened and broke just a little.
"Please, Scarlett..." he said quietly. "Just one time... can’t you do that much... please?"
He looked at her like a sad abandoned puppy.
Scarlett immediately gritted her teeth. He was doing it again. That face of his. That shameless, pitiful expression. She could clearly tell he was acting.
And yet... it was still annoying.
One of Amon’s cheeks had a slight burn mark. There was nothing here that could heal it. Healing magic did not remove that mark unless one used very high-level healing magic or a potion.
He was not handsome... maybe better-looking than average. But clearly not extremely handsome. Still, his face looked innocent and pitiful.
His personality was what made him truly different.
She looked away for a second and exhaled slowly.
"...You are unbelievable," she muttered.
Amon said nothing. He just kept staring at her with those trembling eyes.
Finally, she could not take it anymore. With frustration not wating to watch more of his drama, she said, "Alright! Alright! I will come!"
Was she always this weak? No one could tell.
In an instant, Amon’s entire expression changed. It was like the clouds disappeared and the sun came out.
His eyes sparkled. His back straightened. He ran his hand through his black messy hair. The sadness vanished completely.
Scarlett’s eyelid twitched.
He quickly reached out and grabbed her right hand with both of his. His palm covered hers warmly.
He leaned closer to her, his face only a short distance away.
With a bright smile, he said sincerely, "Thank you."
Scarlett froze for half a second. A faint blush appeared on her cheeks.
"Y-You’re too close," she muttered and pushed him away lightly with her free hand.
Amon laughed softly and finally let go.
She turned her face away slightly, trying to hide the small redness on her cheeks.
For Amon, it was weird how she was getting all shy and blushing, since while fighting she always got very close to him. For beating him, of course. But still, that was still considered being physically closer.
’Still, she’s sweet!’ Amon thought while smiling.
Across the hall, Malphas and Granny May at the counter watched the two youngsters quietly.
A faint smile appeared on both of their faces.
Youth.
It was truly a beautiful thing.
