The Smiling Death-Chapter 357: Love Birds!
Amon and Scarlett stepped out of Roland’s house. Vetaal floated behind them, invisible again.
As they walked along the village path, Amon glanced at Scarlett and spoke calmly. "Thanks."
Scarlett did not look at him and continued walking forward. Her eyes remained fixed ahead as she asked in a neutral tone, "Why thank me?"
Amon smiled lightly as he walked beside her. "Of course for helping me out... to convince them."
Scarlett replied indifferently, still looking straight ahead. "It was nothing. I just did what was beneficial for me... and everyone. If we have a chance, then we should give our all. That’s why I took your side."
Amon nodded slightly. "Yes... but you know... you are strong. At the peak of Master Ascendant... your words have more weight than mine. So it was really helpful."
Scarlett waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah yeah. I get that. It’s alright. No need to thank me."
Amon took a small step closer to her. Their shoulders touched against each other lightly.
A mischievous smile appeared on his face. "You know... my heart was beating so fast... when you said..."
Amon placed his palm on his chest where his heart was. "I trust Amon. I believe in him."
A faint blush appeared on his face as he spoke shyly. "Yo-you loo-looked so cool at that time. I felt like my heart would come out of my chest."
He turned his head slightly and looked sideways. His eyes met her beautiful amethyst ones.
Scarlett was staring at him with a completely deadpan expression. She raised one eyebrow slightly. "Really?"
Amon blinked innocently. "What really?! It was true... Yo-you just made my maiden heart beat so fast at that time... Oh goddess... am I in l-l-love? Oh no!"
Scarlett’s cheeks flushed faintly as she suddenly snapped. "H-hey shut up now! Or I will have to use my fist."
Even after spending nearly four months beside him, she still couldn’t understand his ridiculous antics.
Amon flinched slightly, then quickly smiled awkwardly. His blush vanished instantly. "Okay! Okay! I will stop it now."
He then lifted his gaze upward.
Vetaal was invisible, but he knew the undead was still floating nearby.
"Vetaal... can you leave us alone... and go to the house."
Vetaal’s amused voice echoed from the air. "Sure you love birds. I will give you guys time. Enjoy it. Hehe~"
Scarlett clenched her teeth in irritation at Vetaal’s words. "Ahh!"
Amon chuckled lightly. "Thanks Vetaal."
Suddenly, he grabbed Scarlett’s hand. His fingers intertwined with hers and gripped tightly.
He could feel the warmth of her palm. Scarlett’s eyes widened slightly before she could react.
"Wai–!?"
Amon suddenly started running forward, pulling her along with him.
Scarlett quickly matched his speed. "Where are you going?" she asked while running beside him.
Despite everything, she did not pull her hand away from his grasp.
Amon answered with a grin. "Just away from the village. Just the two of us."
Scarlett frowned slightly. "What? Wh-why?"
Amon spoke casually while continuing to run. "Oh, I just wanted to be with you alone. Away from prying eyes. Tell you some fun things."
Scarlett narrowed her eyes suspiciously but said nothing more and simply followed him.
Meanwhile, some villagers noticed them running together while holding hands.
The villagers couldn’t help but whisper among themselves.
"Oh my! Look at them. They are holding hands!"
"Oh goodness, they are going toward the forest."
"I can’t imagine what they are going to do there."
"Ehhh! So bold!"
Scarlett gritted her teeth in embarrassment. By now she should have been used to those murmurs.
Nearly all villagers looked at Amon and Scarlett as if they were a couple, which irritated her greatly.
But she had never been the type of person to go around explaining that it wasn’t true. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
She didn’t care what others thought about her... or at least that was how it was supposed to be. But it still annoyed her.
Her... with a man who was more than seven years younger than her?
Never!
Yet for some reason she was always lenient toward Amon.
Even when he got close to her, touched her, teased her... she allowed it for some reason. Maybe it was because he was young and kind of cute. Maybe because he looked innocent and pure.
That was what she always told herself. But no one knew how she actually felt about him. Not even Scarlett herself knew it.
Soon they entered the forest area.
Amon led her deeper inside until they reached a small clearing.
It was an open space beside a riverside. Black grass a few inches long grew everywhere, forming a soft ground.
They stopped there. The breeze was cool. The sky was grey, without any clear sunlight.
Scarlett frowned slightly. "Why did you bring me here?"
Amon looked around calmly before replying. "I wanted to talk to you alone... before we start preparing for the upcoming battle. Let’s sit here."
He sat down on the soft ground, gently pulling her with him. Scarlett did not resist and sat down beside him.
She looked at him with a questioning expression. "Okay... so what did you want to talk about?"
Amon looked at her thoughtfully.
She was beautiful, as always. But to him, it felt as though she grew more beautiful with each passing day. He don’t know the reason behind it.
Her long, thick red hair flowed loosely down her back, a few stray strands falling over one of her eyes.
Her skin was pale and flawless, just as one would expect from a vampire. She wore a simple brown tunic that did little to conceal the natural curves of her figure.
Yet strangely, as he looked at her now, no improper thoughts crossed his mind, not even once. He simply found her beautiful.
It felt like he could watch her forever, quietly admiring her without doing anything else.
The way her hair fluttered gently in the cool breeze. The calm, serene expression on her face as she gazed at the scenery. The way her crystal-like eyes seemed to reflect the entire world before her.
Amon let out a slow breath. Before he realized it, a gentle smile had appeared on his face.
