The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 100: Then Let’s Be Together
October slipped by at a leisurely pace, with days passing uneventfully.
In the blink of an eye, it was time for the aroma of sugar-roasted chestnuts to fill the air, and soon enough, it would be time to tuck hands into pockets and breathe white mist into the chilly air while buying roasted sweet potatoes.
Holly was sitting on the sofa in the living room, watching Korean dramas, while Leo sat next to her peeling sugar-roasted chestnuts for her.
The young girl watched TV with serious eyes, her mouth stuffed full of sugar-roasted chestnuts, puffed up like a little hamster sneaking food. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Very cute.
"The sugar-roasted chestnuts taste so good."
With her mouth full, Holly turned to look at Leo, her eyes curved like crescents.
This was the taste of autumn.
Sugar-roasted chestnuts were a symbol of autumn, bringing back memories of Arkenfall, where the streets were filled with their enticing aroma, teasing one’s appetite.
You could smell it from afar.
Holding hot sugar-roasted chestnuts, walking through the forest of red maples, it was indeed a great way to cultivate one’s heart and soul.
"Eat more if you like them."
Leo’s smile was particularly gentle as he gazed tenderly at Holly, never stopping his hands from peeling sugar-roasted chestnuts for her.
If the young girl liked them, that was all that mattered.
"Brother, you should eat too."
Leo hadn’t eaten a single one himself, always peeling for Holly, who blinked and said.
Delicious things should be shared; after all, peeling was tiring for Leo and he should eat some himself.
"I don’t like to eat them."
Leo shook his head, his gaze soft on Holly.
He wanted to give all the tasty things to Holly; whether he ate or not didn’t matter, as long as the girl was happy.
Holly looked insistently at Leo, "They’re very sweet."
Sugar-roasted chestnuts were the taste of autumn, and she liked that flavor, sweet and comforting.
"Hmm, very sweet."
Under Holly’s expectant gaze, Leo picked up a peeled chestnut and put it into his mouth, chewing.
Sweet and delicious, filling his mouth with the aromatic sweetness.
"Brother, I want you to be with me in the spring to eat fresh toon, in the summer to eat watermelons, in the autumn to eat sugar-roasted chestnuts, and in the winter to eat roasted sweet potatoes."
Holly’s gaze fell upon Leo as she suddenly said with great seriousness, her eyes earnest on Leo.
She wanted Leo to accompany her through the seasons, experiencing the delicious foods each season offered.
Leo nodded, "Alright."
Whatever the young girl wanted, he would surely be there; there was no doubt about that.
If the young girl liked to eat, then he would accompany her to enjoy many delicious treats, letting her eat to her heart’s content.
"Brother, you didn’t understand what I meant."
Holly tilted her head, looking at Leo, gently biting her lip, her voice soft and gentle.
Her intention was to spend every dusk and season together, savoring all the delicious foods, always and forever being together.
Her intent was to answer Leo’s earlier question, agreeing to be with him, though Leo hadn’t understood.
"Holly wants to eat whatever, brother will accompany you."
Leo’s eyes carried a smile, his voice tender.
What he understood was to accompany Holly to eat all sorts of delicious things; his little foodie wouldn’t be refused.
"Brother, I’m giving you the answer, the answer from that day."
Holly bit her lip tightly, speaking slowly with a serious expression.
She was giving the answer Leo had wanted.
"What?"
Leo appeared stunned, looking at Holly in disbelief, his eyes filled with incredulity.
Giving him an answer?
The answer from that day?
Did it mean she agreed?
Leo could hardly believe his ears, thinking he might have heard wrong.
"I don’t want you to be my brother anymore, nor do I want to be your sister."
Holly blinked, speaking with a serious face, her tone earnest.
That was exactly what she meant.
She had thought for a long time; the future was indeed long, with no one knowing whether tomorrow or the unexpected would come first.
Whether she and Leo would last wasn’t that important; cherishing the present was the most important thing.
She liked Leo, so what was there to hesitate about? At most, if they weren’t happy, they could part ways then.
Her capacity to endure wasn’t that fragile; she didn’t want to miss out on Leo.
Diana Curtis had said it well, to cherish the present and not pass on a boy who looked at her with such tenderness.
Leo’s smile was deeply profound, "Alright."
He had waited for this answer for a long time, and thankfully, it was just as he hoped, filling him with happiness.
"Brother, does it matter to you about the secrets I have?"
Holly tilted her head, looking at Leo, speaking slowly.
There were many things about her that Leo didn’t know, like even though her hands hadn’t stained blood, she had many lives on her conscience.
Lollipops could kill people; lollipops were her tool for killing.
She wasn’t as soft and innocent as she seemed; sometimes, her heart was rather dark.
"What brother likes is you, no matter how you are, brother likes you."
Leo tousled Holly’s head, a smile ever-present on his face.
The smile never left his face, like a child receiving candy, he felt especially happy.
What Leo liked was Holly as a person, so no matter what she was like, he would like her, always and forever liking her.
Holly’s smile was radiant, "Alright."
She trusted Leo.
"Has Holly thought it through?"
Leo reached out to hold Holly’s hand tightly, asking seriously again.
Holly still had a chance to change her mind; if she nodded, there would be no chance for regret this lifetime.
If he held this hand, it would be for a lifetime; he would never let go, even if Holly wanted to leave, he would search the ends of the earth to bring his dear girl back.
Holly nodded, "I have thought it through."
She had considered it for many days as well.
Eileen Wright once wrote: "Among thousands of people, you meet those you meet; among thousands of years, in the boundless wilderness of time, there’s neither a step early nor late, just in time."
She felt her meeting with Charlotte Grant was just perfect, and since it was just right, why not be together?
"Brother, this decision I’ve thought over for a long time, and now I’m telling you, I want to be with you."
Holly’s eyes were full of sincerity, her tone firm.
To love someone is to live well with him, without thinking too much. Leave future matters to the future, don’t fear, don’t overthink, don’t doubt. What’s meant to happen will happen, what’s not, no amount of guessing will help, it’ll just ruin your mood.
Actually, whether a person loves you is nonetheless something you know deep down; why worry so much? Just trust him.
She ought to trust Leo.
