The Soft-Hearted Wife of Mr. Big Shot-Chapter 189: Celebrating New Year’s Day
At one in the afternoon, Noah Raines and Nathaniel Shaw already arrived. The two of them were chatting with Leo Grant in the study while Holly Sawyer was watching TV in the living room.
In the winter, Holly seemed to have drama series on her mind all the time, spending her days glued to television shows.
"Ta-da, look, what’s this."
When Cecilia Bennett arrived, it was Holly who opened the door. As soon as her face appeared, Cecilia raised the item in her hand, blinking at Holly.
Cecilia held a bottle of fruit wine, a very old brand, now scarcely seen in the market.
"What the hell, where did you dig this up from?"
Holly couldn’t help but curse, her eyes fixated on the bottle of fruit wine.
The first time they secretly drank alcohol when they were young, it started with fruit wine, and back then the packaging looked just like this.
It’s no longer available in the market; it’s very rare to find.
These are childhood memories.
"Didn’t dig it up, took it from home."
Cecilia said with a face full of smiles.
Holly: "???"
Are you sure it’s not expired? Does fruit wine really have that long of a shelf life? She could barely believe it.
"What are you thinking."
Cecilia tapped Holly’s head, the laughter in her eyes growing even deeper.
"The bottle is one I collected earlier, the fruit wine was prepared by me and poured in. The taste should be similar."
Cecilia explained with an air of "Come and praise me," the laughter in her eyes especially profound.
Well, she just thought she was rather clever, too clever for her own good, to come up with this kind of idea.
Holly: "..."
She was completely speechless.
"Don’t you think I’m clever? Come and praise me."
Cecilia blinked, placed the fruit wine on the table, smiling brightly at Holly, waiting to be complimented.
"Yes, quite clever."
Holly inserted both hands in her coat pockets and said slowly, feeling quite speechless.
Although it’s quite nostalgic, Holly just felt Cecilia was a bit of a fool, rather speechless.
"Come, come, let’s have a drink."
Cecilia glanced around the room, whispering to Holly.
The only sound in the living room came from the television set; there was no sign of Leo Grant, so perhaps he was not home?
"No, let’s drink some other day. Leo is upstairs."
Holly shook her head and declined.
Fruit wine is still a type of alcohol; in front of Leo, she’d rather obediently refrain from drinking, being a good girl.
"Tch, so timid."
Cecilia shrugged and rolled her eyes at Holly.
Before Holly had a boyfriend, they often called each other overseas to drink together and talk about life.
"No, I just don’t want him to be upset."
Holly shook her head and said.
"I hope you two can coexist peacefully. If one day you have to choose between the two, my choice will always be you."
Holly sat down, picked up the remote control and changed the channel, speaking slowly and softly.
She’s the kind of person who likes to think of the best outcomes while considering the worst ones, because some things are unpredictable.
Holly was telling Cecilia her choice, and she hoped there would be no surprises, never intending to abandon Cecilia.
"What nonsense, there won’t be any conflict between me and the one you love."
"If there really is, I wouldn’t want you to leave him for me. As long as I don’t interact with him, we can continue our friendship."
"What a silly girl."
Cecilia plopped down next to Holly, gently shook her head, saying it earnestly.
How could she bear it?
Her relationship with Holly was so good, they grew up together like family; how could she bear to let Holly leave the one she loves?
She understood Holly’s concerns, since a lot of things are unknown.
But she could clearly tell Holly it’s unnecessary, even if she and Leo reached a point where it’s do or die, she wouldn’t let Holly make a choice between them.
She is she, Leo is Leo, Holly is Holly, there’s no conflict among the three.
Holly nodded, "Okay."
"Here, have a cup of hot milk."
Holly poured Cecilia a cup of hot milk.
"Wow, getting into wellness, huh?"
Cecilia looked at the hot milk in front of her, unable to help but quip.
Holly never liked drinking milk, much less serving it to guests; the current Holly, tsk-tsk.
"Then what do you want to drink? Speak up."
Holly crossed her arms, leisurely looking at Cecilia.
"Fruit wine."
Cecilia raised her eyebrows and uttered the words.
Holly: "..."
"Miss Bennett, hello."
The three came out from the study; Leo saw Cecilia and greeted her.
"Young Master Grant, hello."
Cecilia politely greeted back.
They weren’t familiar, so there was nothing much to say.
"Here, freshly peeled."
Leo placed a plate in front of Holly; it was filled with ripe pomelo.
Leo had peeled the pomelo so nicely, every piece was distinct.
"Brother sure is nice."
Holly beamed joyfully and broke into a wide smile.
Noah Raines and Nathaniel Shaw looked at Leo and simultaneously turned their heads away, avoiding Leo.
No one knew what they had gone through upstairs. While they were chatting and discussing matters, Leo attentively peeled pomelos on the side.
They teased Leo, and Leo mocked them for not having girlfriends.
"Wow, freshly peeled pomelo."
Cecilia looked at Holly, smacking her lips, full of envy.
"Shut up."
Holly picked up the pomelo and stuffed a piece into Cecilia’s mouth, glaring at her.
"Continue chatting with your sister. Let’s find another place to sit."
Leo gently ruffled Holly’s hair and moved to another spot to talk with Noah and Nathaniel.
He didn’t want to get involved in the girl’s conversation; there were no common topics.
Holly nodded, "Okay."
"Isn’t it a sweet romance, when pomelo comes peeled, mango is seedless, tangerine is skinless, shrimp is shell-free, and fish is deboned?"
Cecilia blinked lightly, laughter in her eyes, as she teasingly said to Holly.
Hmm, in idol dramas, the love stories between the lead characters are just like this; she found it quite intriguing, never having dated, right?
"Yes, pretty much."
Holly nodded, responding slowly.
Cecilia: "..."
Geez, she probably should have swallowed her earlier words; now she’s really eaten a mouthful of dog food.
