Chapter 98: Chapter 98: He Trusts the Little Girl

That day, the little girl had her hair in two braids, wore a mask, and carried a bag in her hand as she hurriedly walked into the old man’s room.

Throughout the journey, there were people leading her, all in a respectful manner. At first, Noah Raines thought he was mistaken, but after rubbing his eyes several times, he realized it was indeed Holly.

How could Holly appear in Arkenfall?

How could she appear at the Grant Family’s house?

Why wasn’t Leo Grant with her?

Noah Raines had a string of questions in his mind. He initially thought of calling Leo Grant, but later got busy with other things and forgot about it.

He came over today specifically to tell Leo Grant.

"The little girl hasn’t been to Arkenfall recently."

Leo Grant’s tone was certain. Every day, when he returned home from work, he could see the little girl. How could she possibly be in Arkenfall?

"Brother, I’m sure I didn’t see wrong."

Noah Raines said, furrowing his eyebrows.

Holly has always been under Leo Grant’s watch. Leo Grant believed Holly has always been in Bexley, but he really saw her, truly and unmistakably.

Leo Grant remained silent. He tried his best to recall what Holly was doing the night Noah Raines mentioned.

That night, he got off work early and reached home by four, had dinner early too, and went to the study to work at half-past five. Holly brought him a glass of milk, and after drinking it, he continued to work.

In less than half an hour, he began to feel a bit sleepy and went directly to bed, sleeping until dawn.

Milk.

Yes, Holly had added something to the milk.

Due to sleeping early, Leo Grant wasn’t aware of what happened that night.

From Bexley to Arkenfall, the fastest route only takes two hours, so Holly would have had enough time to get there, but it would’ve been a tight schedule.

"The little girl is a wolf in sheep’s clothing."

After a long pause, Leo Grant finally uttered this sentence.

Indeed, the little girl may appear gentle and weak, but she’s full of sharp edges. Leo Grant doesn’t even know how sharp Holly’s claws really are.

"As long as she doesn’t show her wolf claws to you, it’s not a big problem."

Noah Raines remarked. Whether Holly is a ghost or a human is not important; what matters is they aren’t in an adversarial relationship.

Leo Grant is already deeply involved, and as Leo Grant’s brother, Noah hopes his brother can reach a happy ending.

Moreover, Holly is quite cute when she’s like a little bunny.

"The little girl wouldn’t."

Leo Grant shook his head. He fully trusts Holly, trusts his little girl at home.

"Be careful, there are some things you need to clarify. Don’t become the farmer."

Noah Raines reminded him.

Holly initially came from an unknown origin. It’s best if she’s not adversarial, but if she is, then it should be terminated early.

Of course, Noah Raines doesn’t want Holly to have ulterior motives.

The story of the farmer and the viper is one many have heard. The farmer kindly put a frozen snake in his bosom to warm it, only to be bitten in return.

Holly was "picked up" by Leo Grant and kindly taken in. Noah Raines hopes Holly doesn’t bite Leo Grant back.

Leo Grant’s voice was calm, "Hmm, there’s no need to remind me."

The little girl wouldn’t harm him, Leo Grant firmly believes.

"I don’t want to say anything else. Just pay attention; love is like a poppy. Once involved, there’s no escape."

Noah Raines slowly uttered, his tone light.

Leo Grant is his brother. He still has to care about his brother’s affairs, making sure Leo Grant doesn’t charge forward naively, never to return.

They say if you persistently remember, there will eventually be an echo. He hopes Leo Grant’s feelings for Holly will be reciprocated, rather than unrequited.

Leo Grant: "Hmm."

Holly rubbed her eyes and came downstairs, her face showing signs of sleepiness. She slept late last night, and now after waking up, it’s already noon.

"Brother."

Her tone was soft and doughy, revealing a sense of sleepiness.

"Are you hungry?"

As usual, Leo Grant gently rubbed Holly’s head, his voice extremely gentle.

He went to wake the little girl up this morning, but her waking temper was quite strong, refusing to get up.

The little girl probably slept late. Leo Grant didn’t force Holly to get up, but instead asked Mrs. Hayes to keep the food warm for her until she woke to eat.

"Hungry."

Holly nodded, indeed feeling hungry.

Leo Grant went to serve the food to Holly.

"Am I such a grown-up that the little girl can’t see me?"

Noah Raines propped his chin on his hand, looking at Holly, and slowly spoke.

Holly had her hair in ponytails, the only difference from the night he saw her was the missing mask. Holly’s eyes are very distinctive, shiny as if they can talk.

Noah Raines firmly believes he didn’t see wrong; it was indeed Holly he saw.

"Noah, you’re here again."

Holly looked at Noah Raines in delight, blinking, and spoke softly.

"Here to mooch a meal."

Noah Raines openly admitted, glancing at Holly with a half-smile.

Mrs. Hayes went grocery shopping, and lunch hadn’t been served yet. What Holly was eating was breakfast.

"Mrs. Hayes’s cooking is really delicious."

Holly blinked, praising Mrs. Hayes.

No doubt, Mrs. Hayes’ cooking skills are indeed excellent; she keeps wanting more. Noah Raines’s fondness for Mrs. Hayes’s culinary skills is entirely normal.

"Mrs. Hayes watched Leo grow up. Leo has been eating her cooking since he was young."

Noah Raines looked at Holly meaningfully and continued slowly.

This little girl is a foodie, Noah Raines could see.

Holly nodded, "Oh, oh."

She knew that too, but didn’t quite understand what Noah Raines meant by telling her this, it was odd.

"Living together with Leo, you can eat Mrs. Hayes’s food every day."

Noah Raines hinted again.

Holly seemed to understand but yet not, nodding, "I know that. I can eat it every day now."

She knew this too, why did Noah Raines keep telling her?

She’s now living in Leo’s home, eating and drinking the food made by Mrs. Hayes daily, and it’s all delicious with variety.

Mrs. Hayes always liked to cater to her taste, taking care of her, which Holly felt quite touched by.

"Holly, do you like Leo?"

Noah Raines gazed into Holly’s eyes, earnestly questioning her.

Holly was momentarily stunned, appearing a bit dazed and unsure why Noah asked such a question.

Noah Raines asked again, "Do you like him?"

"I like him."

Holly nodded.

"I mean the kind of liking that isn’t sibling-like. I know Holly understands what I mean."

Noah Raines slightly curled his lips, slowly speaking with a bit of teasing in his tone.

He was quite curious to know how this little girl would respond, and what was in her heart.

Holly tilted her head to look at Noah Raines, gently biting her lip, without saying a word.
