The Sovereign's Shadow: Reborn as the Final Villain-Chapter 47: The Debt-Collector
The golden nebula above New Astora didn’t just flicker after the Speculator’s death; it bled. A jagged, ink-black tear appeared where the thirteenth eye had been, and from that void, a cold, suffocating pressure descended. It wasn’t the heavy weight of gold or the clinical light of the UPG. It was the feeling of a vacuum—a spiritual and digital "Negative Space."
Kaelen stood over the fading embers of the Speculator’s throne, his chest heaving. His Level 42 aura was a vibrant violet, but the edges were fraying. The "Hyper-Inflation" gambit had cost him more than just mana; it had strained his very connection to the World-Core.

[DEBILITY: LOGIC-FATIGUE (50% REGEN PENALTY)]
"One down," Kyra wheezed, pushing herself up from the silver grass. Her tactical suit was still sparking from the golden crystallization. "But the sky... it feels like it’s hollow."
"It is," Kaelen said, his eyes locked on the black pillar of light descending from the twelfth eye. "The Speculator was the carrot. Now comes the stick."
From the black light stepped a figure that stood seven feet tall. He wore a suit of armor made of overlapping ledgers and rusted iron chains. His face was a void hidden behind a mask of a weeping porcelain face. In his right hand, he carried a massive, hooked scythe; in his left, a heavy iron scale.
[ENTITY DETECTED: THE 12TH SHAREHOLDER — ’THE DEBT-COLLECTOR’]
[CLASS: SYSTEM REPOSSESSOR]
[TRAIT: RECOUPMENT — Can ’Borrow’ any skill used against him.]
"Kaelen Thorne," The Debt-Collector spoke. His voice didn’t echo; it seemed to pull the sound out of the air, leaving a chilling silence in its wake. "You have destroyed an asset of the Board. You have created a ’Deficit’ in the cosmic balance. I am here to collect the principal... and the interest."
The Repossession Begins
"I don’t owe the Board a single byte!" Kaelen roared. He lunged forward, [The Void-Reacher] humming with the last of his mana. He executed a [Glitch-Cut], aiming for the Collector’s neck.
The Collector didn’t dodge. He raised his scales. As the blade struck the iron, there was no sound of metal on metal. Instead, a holographic receipt appeared between them.
[TRANSACTION RECORDED: GLITCH-CUT (RANK 3)]
[STATUS: BORROWED]
"Thank you for the contribution," the Collector droned.
He swung his scythe. The blade didn’t glow with black energy; it flickered with the exact same violet-glitch pattern as Kaelen’s own sword.
SLASH.
Kaelen barely managed to phase through the attack, but the "Borrow" was perfect. The Collector had used Kaelen’s own signature move with Level 100 precision. The air where Kaelen had been standing was torn open by a violet rift—a mirror image of his own power.
"He’s a mirror," Lucius shouted from the North Gate, his Sovereign’s Voice amplification reaching the field. "Kaelen, every time you hit him, you’re giving him a weapon!"
The Burden of Interest
Kaelen skidded across the silver grass, his mind racing. He was low on mana, facing an enemy that could plagiarize his soul. He looked at his companions. Elara was still recovering from the "Depreciation," and Kyra was physically compromised.
"You are exhausted, Thorne," the Collector said, stepping forward. The iron chains on his armor rattled, and with every step, the silver grass beneath him didn’t turn to gold—it vanished. He was "Deleting" the terrain to pay for his movements. "Your ’Insolvent’ status is a lie. Everything has a cost. Your friends. Your city. Your life."
The Collector raised his hand toward the city of New Astora.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: FORECLOSURE]
A massive, spectral chain erupted from the Collector’s chest, flying toward the Spire. It wrapped around the obsidian tower, and the white marble began to crack. The people in the plaza screamed as their "Null" status windows began to turn red.
[CITY INTEGRITY: 95%... 90%... 85%...]
"I am repossessing the foundations," the Collector said. "The ’Value’ you created with your ’Decree’ is being seized to pay for the Speculator’s death."
"Stop it!" Kaelen yelled. He tried to use [Sovereign’s Decree] to break the chain, but a notification stopped him.
[WARNING: SKILL ’SOVEREIGN’S DECREE’ IS CURRENTLY UNDER ’LIEN’.]
[Note: You cannot use this skill until the debt is settled.]
The Zero-Sum Gambit
Kaelen felt the weight of the chains on his own soul. He realized the Debt-Collector thrived on "Balances." He existed because there was a "Plus" and a "Minus." If Kaelen fought him, he added to the balance. If he defended, he added to the balance.
I have to stop being an asset, Kaelen realized. I have to become the Absolute Zero.
Kaelen dropped [The Void-Reacher]. The blade vanished into his shadow. He stood defenceless, his arms at his sides.
"What are you doing, ghost?" Kyra yelled, her eyes wide. "He’ll harvest you!"
"Let him," Kaelen whispered.
The Debt-Collector paused, his weeping mask tilting. "You surrender? You accept the liability?"
"No," Kaelen said, his eyes turning a dead, flat grey. "I am simply declaring that I have no ’Principal.’ You want to collect? Collect from the void."
Kaelen activated his Void-Skin’s hidden secondary function: [TRUE-NULLIFICATION].
In the Old World, this would have deleted the player. In Version 3.1, it meant Kaelen was withdrawing his consciousness from the System’s tracking entirely. He wasn’t just "Insolvent" anymore; he was "Non-Existent Data."
The spectral chains wrapped around the Spire suddenly went slack. They couldn’t find the "Owner" to hold accountable. The Collector’s scythe, which was still humming with Kaelen’s [Glitch-Cut], suddenly lost its glow. You cannot mirror something that doesn’t exist.
"Error," the Collector stammered, his iron scales tilting wildly. "Account... not found. Target... not found. The balance... is... undefined!"
The Final Settlement
Kaelen moved, but he didn’t use a skill. He didn’t use mana. He used the raw, physical momentum of a body that was no longer bound by the "System’s" physics. He moved through the Collector’s armor as if it were smoke, appearing inside the entity’s personal space.
He reached out and grabbed the iron scales.
"You want to settle the debt?" Kaelen’s voice came from everywhere and nowhere. "Then let’s look at the Board’s ’Accounts Payable.’ All the lives you deleted. All the worlds you formatted. That’s a lot of interest, Collector."
Kaelen didn’t siphoned mana. He pushed the [Logic-Fatigue]—his own exhaustion—directly into the Collector. He forced the "Negative Value" of his own broken state into the Shareholder’s perfect ledger.
[FORCED EQUALIZATION INITIATED]
The Collector’s armored ledgers began to burst into flames. The weeping mask cracked, revealing a swirling vortex of black ink underneath. The chains shattered, falling to the ground as rusted junk.
"The... balance... must... be..."
"The balance is Zero," Kaelen hissed.
He punched his hand through the Collector’s chest, grabbing the "Core Ledger"—the 12th Shareholder’s essence. With a surge of "Null" force, he crushed it.

[REWARD: THE DEBTOR’S KEY]
The Silence of the Board
The black pillar of light vanished. The chains around the Spire dissolved into grey mist. The eleven golden eyes in the sky didn’t blink this time. They retreated. The golden nebula faded, returning the sky to its indigo peace.
Kaelen fell to his knees, his Void-Skin flickering as he struggled to "Re-exist." He was Level 48, but he felt like he was held together by nothing but sheer will.
Elara and Kyra ran to him. Elara’s hands glowed with healing light, stabilizing his flickering form. "Kaelen, you’re back. You’re actually here."
"For now," Kaelen panted. He looked at the reward in his hand—a jagged, rusted iron key that pulsed with a dark, heavy energy.

"The Board is scared," Lucius said, walking up to them. He looked at the key. "They’ve lost two seats in a single day. They’re going to pull back and fortify. They won’t send another Shareholder until they’ve ’Patched’ the Null-Space."
"Then we don’t wait for them to come to us," Kaelen said, standing up with Lucius’s help. He looked at the key, then at the rift in the sky. "We have the key to their basement. It’s time to go on a ’Rescue Mission’ for the rest of the world."
