Chapter 69: Sorry, I’ll make you feel good. I promise...”

"So, Your Highness," Alaric spoke first, his voice calm but firm, cutting through the quiet room, "what you’re saying is that this mission likely won’t be finished within six months?"

"Yes," Cael answered while nodding slightly. "As you may have noticed, the beasts have been behaving strangely. They’re unusually aggressive, far more than before."

He straightened, hands resting on the table.

"During my days of scouting, I discovered a liquid-like substance present in their habitats. That substance is what’s driving them into a frenzy. It appeared suddenly, but the pattern is too consistent to ignore."

The atmosphere in the room grew heavier.

"I asked the Vensworth healer to focus their magic on that substance," Cael continued. "It turns out it can be purified, but only by skilled healers. Without purification, suppressing the beasts will only delay the problem."

"I see," Alaric said slowly. "Then I’ll need to send another report to the capital."

"Please do," Cael replied. "They need to understand that this mission requires more time and proper support."

"Ahem, Your Grace and Your Highness," Gideon interjected after a brief pause. "Since I won’t be able to participate personally, may I have my knight captain take my place?"

Cael nodded without hesitation. "Of course. That won’t be a problem, Lord Hawthorne."

As the discussion continued, Cael glanced toward Alaric who had already returned to the documents spread across the table. Though silent once more, his presence anchored the room, making it clear that every decision made here carried his quiet authority.

Gideon also reported that he had secured additional weaponry to support both parties.

The supplies included extra swords, shields, and bows, meant to serve as reinforcement in case the mission dragged on longer than expected.

In addition, he brought along the most skilled healer from his household named Gwen, especially since one of the original healers had been dismissed.

With these changes, what was once a simple subjugation mission had now turned into a large-scale purification effort. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Healers, especially Soren, would no longer remain behind the lines but would be placed closer to the front, where they might face real danger. The situation had grown far more serious, as their target was no longer a single location but multiple affected areas.

In previous years, subjugation missions usually lasted no more than six months.

However, judging by the strange and violent behavior of the beasts over the past few months, it became clear that this mission would need to be extended. What awaited them was not a short campaign, but a prolonged and dangerous operation that would test everyone involved.

Meanwhile, Melissa and Hector finally found the courage to admit their feelings for one another.

After years of hiding behind friendship, shared laughter, and unspoken glances, they confessed what had long been buried in their hearts.

Once the words were spoken, the distance between them disappeared, and they grew closer in just a few short days than they ever had before.

The truth was simple.

They had always felt the same way yet both had been afraid to take the first step, terrified that a confession might shatter the friendship they had carefully built over the years.

Losing each other had always seemed far more frightening than living with unspoken feelings.

Unfortunately, it took tragedy for them to realize their mistake.

What happened to Melissa became a cruel wake-up call.

Faced with the possibility of loss, they understood that silence could be just as devastating. If they continued to hold back, if they kept choosing fear over honesty, everything they treasured could disappear in an instant.

And so, they chose to speak up because waiting any longer would mean risking a regret far greater than rejection like the pain of never having said anything at all.

"Ugh... can you please pull out now?" Melissa groaned, realizing that Hector was still inside her even though she had fallen asleep hours ago.

They had been at it for so long that her body felt weak and sensitive.

Hector only rubbed his cheek against her back while nuzzling her gently as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Instead of pulling away, he thrusted himself into her again.

"Ugh... hey..." Melissa caught his hand when she felt him harden inside her once more.

"Hm... can we go again?" Hector murmured, his voice low. "I can’t get enough of you."

He then kissed along her neck while his hands are moving up to her chest, caressing her breasts and teasing her nipple. The sensation made Melissa moan softly that’s making her breathing growing uneven as her body trembled under the pleasure.

"Uh... you’re such a timid man," she muttered breathlessly, "but I didn’t know you could be such a beast in bed..."

Hector chuckled quietly with his hand sliding down her thigh as he lifted it, thrusting into her once more.

"Mm... is that a compliment?" he asked.

Overwhelmed by the sensation and feeling as though she was melting, Melissa turned her head toward him. She met his smile before pressing her lips to his, sharing a deep kiss as their tongues intertwined.

After a moment of kissing, Hector finally pulled away from her lips and withdrew from her.

He then climbed over her once more with his hands gripping her thighs as he positioned himself above her.

"Uh, w-wait! I just came, Hector, ugh! Haa!"

The very next second, without even guiding himself, he pushed back inside her and began to move again.

"I can’t hold back anymore. Sorry, I’ll make you feel good. I promise..."

He leaned down, kissing her gently while his hands wandered over her body, sliding from her breasts to her shoulders, teasing her nipples, then brushing along her neck as he caressed her slowly.

In the midst of that, Hector thought of something.

"I love you, Melissa..." Hector murmured between kisses. "I’ve loved you for a very long time. Ever since then, I was already in love with you. When you became a knight, I decided I would follow you no matter what, so I trained harder than ever just to stand beside you." His voice trembled slightly as he continued, still moving inside her. "I love you so much that if I were to lose you... I don’t think I could live in a world without you."

"You idiot..." Melissa whispered breathlessly, smiling as she enjoyed the sensation. "I feel the same way. I love you too." She reached up and cupped his face gently. "But don’t ever talk about dying. Let’s stay together and live happily. Let’s have our own children, watch them grow, and stay by each other’s side until our hair turns gray, alright?"

Hector lowered his forehead to hers, and they shared a soft smile before kissing again, holding onto each other as if neither wanted to let go.

For the very first time, as their bodies pressed together, it felt as if their hearts were merging as well.

Every heartbeat, every breath seemed to synchronize, and in that closeness, they discovered a bond far deeper than anything they had felt before.

The warmth they shared was more than physical but was the warmth of trust, of longing fulfilled, of love finally confessed and embraced.

Between soft kisses and lingering touches, every movement carried emotion.

Each embrace and each gentle caress spoke louder than words ever could.

Their love grew with every shared heartbeat, sigh and every whispered I love you that lingered between them.

It was a love that was patient, fierce, and consuming all at once. A connection so deep that even the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, bound together in body and soul.

In that moment, time lost meaning.

They no longer feared the past, nor worried about the future.

All that existed was the undeniable truth of their feelings, magnified by closeness and warmth. And as they held each other, hearts and bodies entwined, they both knew that this was only the beginning. Their love would continue to grow, deeper and more potent with every day they spent together, inseparable and unshakable, a fire that would burn for the rest of their lives.

After the intensity of their lovemaking, they now lay tangled together with their bodies bare and pressed close. Melissa rested her head on Hector’s shoulder while his hand rested gently on her waist with his fingertips tracing soothing patterns.

"Come to think of it... you said it was Soren who healed me, right?" Melissa asked softly.

"That’s right," Hector replied simply while brushing a few loose strands of hair from her face with a small, fond smile.

Melissa sighed with a hint of worry in her expression. "Hmm... I’ve been recovered for days now, and I haven’t even thanked him properly. It’s embarrassing... and again, he saved me. I don’t even know how to repay him."

Hector lifted her chin gently so their eyes met, his gaze steady and warm. "Don’t worry about that. I may not know much about Soren, but I’ve never once heard him complain about things like that. He’s a good person. He won’t think any less of you."

Melissa’s lips curved into a small smile as he kissed her forehead. Their toes brushed and wriggled under the sheets, a quiet, comforting intimacy.

"That’s true," she murmured. "He really is a good person. I haven’t met anyone like him in a long time."

"Then how about we talk to him tomorrow?" Hector suggested. "Once our mission starts again, we probably won’t get another chance."

Melissa nodded while resting her head back against his shoulder. "Alright... let’s do that."

Meanwhile, back in the Northern Temple, Thalric and Aria were deep in conversation.

"Hm... that’s fortunate for us, then," Thalric said with a sly smirk playing across his lips, as though he were already anticipating a spectacle.
