Chapter 181: Chapter 181 Gina Lopez’s Counterattack

"What... what are you going to do?" Gina Lopez suddenly panicked and stuttered, "This is... the office."

James Brown’s gaze softened as he looked at Gina Lopez, becoming tender as water, his voice carrying a seductive magnetism as he spoke earnestly, "Gina, I never expected you to think this way. Do you know? I’ve actually liked you for a long time. Playing your boyfriend during this period has been the happiest time of my life. But it passed too quickly, ending all of a sudden. These days I haven’t been eating well, sleeping well, every moment I have free, I think of you, of the days you were with me."

Gina Lopez stared at James Brown with wide eyes filled with fear, her face pale, almost twisting away to run.

James Brown’s hands, however, suddenly pressed down on Gina Lopez’s shoulders, preventing her from running away, and at that moment James Brown continued, "I truly didn’t expect that you felt the same about me. It’s unimaginable to me. In my heart, you are a goddess, so pure and so proud. How could a small fry like me be worthy of you? But now I know I was wrong; the story of the poor boy and the goddess can exist in reality as well. Now, at last, I have the courage to tell you... Gina..."

"Ah!" Gina Lopez suddenly screamed, her body jolting upright so fiercely that she knocked over the high-backed boss chair. She waved her arms, tore James Brown’s arms away, and like a startled rabbit, she hid by the window.

"Gina, what’s gotten into you? Didn’t you say you wanted me for your husband? You wouldn’t deceive me, would you?" James Brown instantly revealed a shocked expression, which quickly turned into one of utmost misery. Shaking his head, he said, "The underdog’s counterattack, those are all stories from novels. I’m sorry, I’m leaving."

With those words, James Brown walked toward the door as if he’d lost his soul.

Just as he pulled open the door, he bumped head-on into Sunny Nguyen. Sunny saw James’s saddened expression and jumped in fright, asking urgently, "What happened to you?"

James Brown sighed, shook his head, and replied, "It’s nothing, I’m fine." Then he passed by Sunny and walked down the stairs.

Sunny Nguyen thought to follow him but stopped. Instead, she entered Gina Lopez’s office and casually closed the door. However, as soon as she saw Gina Lopez standing by the window, her hands on her chest still looking utterly unsettled, Sunny became even more confused and quickly approached Gina, asking, "Gina, what happened between you two?"

Hearing Sunny Nguyen’s voice, Gina Lopez finally came to her senses, shivered, and looked around the office, asking, "Has that guy left?"

"He’s left. What exactly happened?" Sunny Nguyen couldn’t figure it out; seeing James’s look, it seemed he had taken a major blow, and Gina Lopez appeared greatly frightened. Plus, it was clear that the two of them had been alone together just now, which made the incident all the more suspicious.

Gina Lopez patted her chest, and at that moment none of the company president’s authority was left, as she angrily said, "That guy actually confessed his love to me, scared me to death."

"What?" Jessica Lopez’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"Really... The way he said it was so disgusting, it gave me goosebumps all over," Gina Lopez shuddered uncontrollably.

Sunny Nguyen shook her head, gazed at Gina Lopez, and said, "Gina, where did your usual smarts go? If this had been a business rival, would you have been unable to tell what’s real?"

"Are you saying he was faking?" Gina Lopez furrowed her brows.

Sunny Nguyen couldn’t help but chuckle and replied, "Think about it for yourself."

Gina Lopez carefully reviewed the events and connected them to how James Brown usually acted; suddenly she realized James had played her. Furious, she slammed the windowsill and exclaimed, "That bastard, he really frightened me."

Sunny Nguyen laughed softly, saying, "But I think it’s actually quite amusing. You scare him, he scares you back. It’s kind of tit for tat, and it has a bit of a love-hate vibe, you know."

"Me, love-hate with him? If it wasn’t for Sandra, I couldn’t be bothered with him at all." Gina Lopez was still holding a grudge about being frightened by James Brown, her eyes widening in anger.

"Haven’t you heard the saying, ’It takes a hundred years to share a boat, a thousand years to share a pillow.’ You and a certain someone, who knows how many nights you’ve already spent together, how could that not be a relationship formed over thousands of years? If it’s not a love-hate relationship, then what is it?"

Gina was immediately embarrassed and quickly clarified, "Although he and I are sleeping in the same room, and even on the same bed, we have nothing to do with each other, okay? Besides, you and that guy not only share a bed but also... have done that. You two are actually a perfect match."

Sunny, who had been discussing this matter with Gina, now laughed lightly and said with ease, "Haha, I bet this guy has been a playboy for thousands of years and must have had no shortage of wives; otherwise, he wouldn’t have succeeded with so many women."

"Exactly, this guy must have been no good before!" Gina agreed wholeheartedly.

"So what are you planning to do now?" Sunny squinted at Gina.

Gina crossed her arms, her brain whirring rapidly before she broke into a proud smile, "He did confess to me, didn’t he? So I guess I’ll just accept him."

Sunny had just taken a sip of water when she suddenly burst into laughter, hastily wiping her mouth with a tissue, "I knew you would do that. Now, I really want to see the look on James’s face when you accept him."

Hearing Sunny say that, Gina also felt a surge of excitement, picturing James’s shocked and dumbfounded expression in her mind.

"Humph, you jerk, you dare scare me? I’ll just go along with your words and see how you end this," Gina thought to herself as she picked up the phone to call James.

James quickly answered the call, still with a sorrowful tone, "Mr. Lopez, you don’t need to comfort me. I’m professional at work and personal issues are personal. Since you haven’t accepted me, I’ll continue to be your colleague and I’ll still work hard."

Gina didn’t immediately get to the point. If she said it over the phone, she wouldn’t be able to see James’s reaction and it wouldn’t be as satisfying. Instead, she responded indifferently, "Come up here for a moment. Director Green and I have some matters to discuss with you."

James sensed something off in Gina’s tone, but with Sunny there, he thought it might genuinely be work-related. With many issues at hand in the company, he once again made his way to Gina’s office.

Seeing Sunny elegantly seated on the sofa, sipping water with a playful look in her eyes, James had a bad feeling and wanted to leave immediately, but before he could move, Gina had already walked behind him and closed the door.

"Mr. Lopez, what’s the matter? I’m swamped with work and need to get back to it," James looked for an excuse to leave quickly.

However, Gina walked straight toward him with a sweet smile. Before she even spoke, James felt a chill down his spine. Gina was usually not one to smile much, and when she did, it was a faint smile. Such a sweet smile seemed reserved for the New Year when she wanted to impress her parents.

Taking another step towards James, Gina’s voice became seductive, "James, I really didn’t mean to scare you like that, it was so sudden..."

Now, James wasn’t just chilled to the bone but also got goosebumps. He quickly said, "Mr. Lopez, can we talk normally? I’m really feeling uneasy with the way you’re speaking."

Seeing James’s somewhat pale face, Gina was internally delighted. However, her expression became even gentler as she gently placed her hand on James’s shoulder and said, "But now, I can give you my answer..."

"You don’t agree, do you?" James stepped back, but Gina followed, pressing him against the office desk with nowhere left to retreat.

"You’re mistaken, I agree. Didn’t I tell you that I want to be your girlfriend? Since you have those feelings, why wouldn’t I agree?"

After saying this, Gina looked on with interest to see James’s pained expression, waiting for him to panic.

But at that moment, James suddenly shouted in delight, grabbing Gina’s shoulders with both hands, his face beaming with joy, "Gina, this is wonderful, I’m so happy!"

Now it was Gina who was dumbstruck, staring at James in disbelief. Wasn’t he supposed to be afraid? Why was he suddenly so thrilled, and why did his happiness seem so genuine?

Sunny was just as astonished, never expecting James’s reaction. However, as an outsider, she quickly realized James must have seen through Gina’s attempt to suppress him and had employed the same tactic to turn the tables on her.

She was now quite eager to see how Gina would respond and how this play between the two would continue.
