The Supreme Soldier in the City-Chapter 580 - 592: Are You Superman?
Chapter 580: Chapter 592: Are You Superman?
The bodyguards were struggling to drag the huge shark onto the beach, and upon seeing the shark, each of them was dumbfounded. The shark weighed over a ton, and apart from some small bullet holes, there was a large hole in its massive head, which was the shark’s fatal wound. This hole was certainly made by James Brown. It was unbelievable how he managed to pierce a hole into a shark’s head while in the sea. The looks directed at James suddenly turned as if he were a monster.
Linda Smith, Lily Fisher, and Lyndia Miller had been terrified just moments before, but now they were captivated by the enormous shark. Although they had seen a lot, it was their first time seeing such a shark, and it was killed by James alone, which made it all the more fascinating.
The bodyguards and the three beauties couldn’t figure out how James killed the shark. Lily and the others ran to James and Lucy Campbell’s side, seeing Lucy tending to James’ leg, they all sat down on the beach.
"Brother-in-law, how did you kill that shark?" Linda Smith curiously asked first.
Although Lucy was also curious, she was more concerned about James’ well-being, and said immediately, "Can’t you see your brother-in-law is not only injured but also exhausted? Give him a break."
"Oh, then brother-in-law, take a rest." This time, Linda did not persist, and both Lily and Lyndia behaved very obediently.
Previously, they found it odd that Lucy chose James as her boyfriend, but today they realized James truly deserved to be Lucy’s boyfriend. What a powerful man he was, killing a shark at sea. He was like a monster, a Superman.
Furthermore, when faced with the shark, James saved them first before facing the shark alone. It was practically a lifesaver for them, so their impression of James drastically improved. They not only had admiration for him but also gratitude.
James grinned at them, saying, "I’m okay now. I was just too tired earlier. That shark was really fierce and almost claimed my life."
Seeing James speak, Linda quickly said excitedly, "Then tell us about what happened, brother-in-law."
James chuckled, "Sure. After I tossed you out, the shark charged at me. Against a shark in the sea, you can’t compete with its speed. You’d be asking for death, and turning your back would just make you its meal. So, I hastily ducked underwater, and the shark immediately followed. You know how fast sharks are in water—it was close to catching up with me in no time."
The girls gasped in shock; they could easily imagine the terrifying situation of being chased by a massive shark with jaws wide open. How horrifying!
James continued, "At that moment, I had no other choice. As the shark lunged, I swam aside just in time to dodge its attack. After several times, although it didn’t bite me, it only got more ferocious, chasing me continuously. I knew I wouldn’t be its match forever, so I seized an opportunity, found a sharp rock underwater."
"When the shark charged again, I evaded its attack and grabbed onto its dorsal fin, clinging onto its back, and struck its head with the rock. The shark’s head was really hard; I don’t know how many times I hit it before it finally died."
James didn’t embellish much, but the girls felt the thrill just hearing about it.
The bodyguards, upon hearing James’ recount, were secretly astounded. They could only imagine how it wasn’t as simple as James made it sound. One small mistake, and the shark’s sharp teeth could have torn him apart. Grabbing onto a shark’s dorsal fin required being exceptionally close, needing great courage and precision, not to mention the sheer force to smash the shark’s head underwater.
In the eyes of these professional bodyguards, they saw even more clearly how formidable James was—a kind of strength they couldn’t even imagine. Now, they truly understood why Lucy never needed them for protection when she was with him. All the bodyguards combined wouldn’t stand a chance against James.
After James finished speaking, Lily, Lyndia, and Linda had little stars in their eyes as they looked at James.
Lily’s playful nature kicked in as she nudged Lucy’s arm, giggling, "Lucy, I’m really envious of you now, finding such an amazing boyfriend. He’s like a Superman! Hee hee, I’ve fallen for him too. Good sisters, let’s share him."
Lyndia also looked at James with a smile and said, "Yeah, Lucy, with such a great guy, it’s hard to find one. Why not let me share him too? I promise not to take him away; he’s still yours. Just let me use him for a bit."
But Linda glared and said, "Stop it! You two can’t snatch my brother-in-law. Let me tell you, if sharing’s on the table, it should be between me and my cousin. You two step aside."
James was on cloud nine, having survived such a dangerous ordeal, narrowly escaping the shark’s bites multiple times. Hearing the girls making jokes now, his mood lightened, and he laughed, "As long as Lucy doesn’t mind, I don’t mind either. After all, the advantage is mine."
Seeing James joke around, Lucy felt a lot better and mockingly said, "You’re even eyeing my sisters? That’s really bold of you!"
John Brown grinned and said, "It’s not me finding them attractive, it’s them finding me attractive."
The three girls burst into giggles and all said, "Yes, we’re the ones who are attracted to you, you’d better agree, and don’t back out later."
Lucy Campbell rolled her eyes at them and said, "You guys, seriously, James is injured like this, and you’re not even a little worried. Somebody, help carry James over there."
The two bodyguards immediately prepared to come over, but Lily Fisher quickly said, "No need, no need, James just saved us, we should show our gratitude. Come on, the four of us will carry him over."
Linda Smith and Lyndia Miller agreed with playful giggles and started to pull John Brown. Lucy was startled and quickly said, "Stop messing around, don’t accidentally hurt him again."
"It’s fine, it’s fine, Lucy, you hold the head, Emily the legs, and Lyndia and I will support the waist. We four can manage that, can’t we?"
John Brown weighed less than 150 pounds, so divided among the four girls, each only bore less than 40 pounds. Though they were pampered and unused to physical labor, they could handle this weight. Additionally, considering it a game, they eagerly lifted James.
Being carried by four beauties, James really enjoyed it, especially with Lucy holding his head, which rested against her ample chest. The sensation was so pleasant that, if not for his exhaustion, he might have embarrassed himself.
They carried James to the barbecue pit and even fetched a recliner for him to lay on, only then did the four girls let go.
Once things calmed down, John Brown called over a bodyguard and asked, "Could you go check if there’s a shark net here?"
The bodyguard immediately followed John’s instructions due to the close relationship between him and Lucy, and because his recent heroic actions had deeply impressed them.
Over an hour later, the bodyguard returned and reported there was indeed a shark net, but it had a large hole. Besides, the nearby waters usually didn’t have sharks, so the net hadn’t been diligently checked.
The appearance of a shark here was indeed bizarre, but not completely unfounded. With global warming, some species’ habits change accordingly. Sudden shifts in Earth’s magnetic field can disorient sharks, causing them to swim into unfamiliar territories. Incidents like this are reported worldwide, so this shark’s presence seemed more accidental than deliberate.
Lucy sat beside John Brown, offered him a skewer of grilled meat, and quietly said, "Do you suspect someone did this on purpose?"
John Brown smiled slightly and said, "This shark’s appearance is peculiar, so I wanted to confirm, but it seems there isn’t much of a problem. It’s probably just that human impact on the environment is too significant, leading to such accidents."
Lucy sighed and said, "Yes, humans are damaging the environment far too much now, especially in many developing countries. For economic advancement, there’s little regard for environmental protection. Our country has borne the brunt of that, now putting in great effort to repair the environment. The cost of environmental restoration far outweighs the benefits gained initially."
John Brown shook his head and said, "There’s no choice. Back then, people’s living standards were low. If you asked them to protect the environment when they couldn’t even fill their stomachs, they wouldn’t have cared. It just has to be a gradual process."
Lucy looked at John Brown and said, "You seem pretty interested in this. How about I establish an environmental company or set up a nonprofit organization for it, and you can manage it?"
"No, thanks. If you need me to lend a hand, I’d consider it, but to manage it directly would drive me crazy."
Lucy chuckled softly and didn’t say more.
"Brother-in-law, brother-in-law, come on, fresh fish bones are here." Emily Smith came over holding a tray with five small bowls on it.
Lily Fisher immediately took a bowl and handed it to John Brown, saying, "I’ve eaten fish bones many times, but it’s my first time having them fresh. Here, this bowl to reward you first."
Lucy took it, smiled tenderly at John Brown, and said, "Here, let me feed you." She then scooped a spoonful and brought it to John Brown’s mouth, her focus and care resembling that of a gentle wife.
