The Tender Beauty is Sweetly Doted in the 20th Century Novel!-Chapter 236 - 235: What If He Uses the Handsome Man Strategy
"Hey, the way you put it, which department doesn’t need quick-thinking talent?"
Liao Yonghe laughed, and for once, retorted back.
Ji Bowen also realized that what he’d said was a bit silly.
He awkwardly cleared his throat, "Anyway, I feel this is the most likely scenario. If I were that Lin guy, I’d definitely want to lure her over."
"...Wouldn’t that be dangerous?"
Liao Yonghe frowned, quite troubled, "I asked around, and others said that Lin Zhishu is really handsome! What if he seduces our department’s beauty with his looks..."
Ji Bowen directly hit him on the head with the book he was holding, "I really doubt how you got into Qing University with that brain of yours?"
"Ye Manman is already married, and now even has a big belly. Who in their right mind would want to seduce a pregnant woman? Just do what you promised, at worst we can wait a bit after class tomorrow, and see what’s happening with them first."
Liao Yonghe yelped as he rubbed his head, "Alright."
Thinking about it like this, perhaps he was overthinking.
But he really didn’t want Ye Manman to be poached whether through seduction or any other means, neither would be pleasant.
Previously he might have simply wanted to cling to someone capable, but now having familiarized with Ye Manman, he found her genuinely kind, smart, and down-to-earth, a pride of their class and the whole foreign language department.
If she got poached, it would be such a loss.
Besides, there’s no other girl like her, who looks like a goddess, has stellar grades, and a great personality.
He regretted even agreeing to this.
"Sigh..."
Liao Yonghe sighed deeply, suddenly finding the snacks in his hands tasteless.
Ji Bowen also felt quite uneasy.
Liao Yonghe didn’t want her poached, and neither did he.
Finally easing his relationship with Ye Manman, having the chance to get some live lessons from the academic goddess whenever possible, if she went to another department, wouldn’t he return to the old days?
Even if he’d be first again after she leaves, such a first place would be rather dull.
Having seen the mountains, he now recognized his own insignificance.
The next morning, Ye Manman, after going to school, first picked up a trophy engraved with her name from her teacher, and unexpectedly received a letter.
Chen Yuqing was as surprised; if it weren’t for Ye Manman’s sudden rise to fame at school, who knows how long this letter would have stayed with the uncle responsible for internal mail, given that apart from the clearly written recipient, the address only had the full name of Qing University.
She thought it might be from Ye Manman’s countryside relatives, so she gave it to her as soon as she got it from other teachers.
Ye Manman was also a bit puzzled.
She didn’t have many acquaintances or friends, and felt like in addition to Jiang Yuan, there wasn’t anyone who would write to her, but she had just recently written to Jiang Yuan, specifically sharing the joyous news of finding her relatives.
Logically, Jiang Yuan should have just received her letter, so how could she reply so quickly?
And even if it was her reply, she should have filled in a complete address based on where she sent the letter from, not just the name of Qing University.
Before class, Liao Yonghe came to tell her about Lin Zhishu wanting to see her, which she remembered, but her curiosity over the letter was greater.
She couldn’t open it during class, so she didn’t.
After class, she opened it first thing.
At a glance at the unfamiliar writing on the letterhead, Ye Manman confirmed she probably didn’t know the sender, but after reading a couple of lines, she couldn’t help but laugh.
It really was a letter from Jiang Yuan.
Except it wasn’t written by her.
The writing was full of personality, rather free-spirited, clearly a man’s handwriting.
With a bit of thought, a picture formed in Ye Manman’s mind of Liu Jitong holding a pen and structuring sentences while listening to Jiang Yuan’s chattering.
And probably because Jiang Yuan’s words were too many and too colloquial, she would sometimes demand certain phrases be added, while Liu Jitong wanted the letter to be more formal, hence the whole letter ended up somewhat odd.
But just reading the words, she could easily imagine Jiang Yuan leading a very happy, interesting life.
After finishing the letter, Ye Manman felt a sense of anticipation.
Because Jiang Yuan wanted to come to Jing City to visit them.
She planned to visit during the time after her morning sickness had passed but before her belly made traveling cumbersome.
After all, in another month, both she and Jiang Yuan’s bellies would be too big, making travel inconvenient. Not to mention after giving birth, it would be hard to go out and have fun for a long time, they’d be taking care of a child, nursing takes a year or more to wean off.
Jiang Yuan worried she’d miss them terribly if she couldn’t see them for a long time, so she persuaded Liu Jitong to come over for a few days of fun.
Ye Manman was very happy, she noted the phone number of the post office near Jiang Yuan’s home, and wanted to make a call right after morning classes, but upon taking a few steps, she remembered Lin Zhishu was supposed to see her, so she returned to the classroom to wait.
Ji Bowen and Liao Yonghe were also loitering in the classroom, sticking to their plan.
However, as time went on, they both started feeling restless.
Everyone else had gone for lunch, and even though over ten minutes had passed, Lin Zhishu hadn’t shown up. They initially planned to pretend to be tidying up or solving problems to linger a bit longer, trying to appear normal and not suspicious.
But as Ye Manman waited in boredom and glanced over, they couldn’t help but show an awkward smile.
"Uh, haha... we..."
Liao Yonghe held his book, awkwardly scratching his head, glanced at Ji Bowen pretending to struggle with a difficult question, and then clammed up under Ye Manman’s disinterested gaze.
Ye Manman checked her watch, feeling like she didn’t want to wait any longer and not paying much attention to what they were doing.
"Are you two planning to keep working on problems in the classroom?"
She started packing her things, ready to leave.
Liao Yonghe chose silence, so it was up to Ji Bowen to respond.
He replied woodenly, "Uh-huh, haven’t finished the problems yet."
Ye Manman nodded, genuinely impressed, "Very diligent."
It was a sincere compliment, yet unfortunately, Ji Bowen had already scribbled a page of nonsense on his notebook...
He chuckled awkwardly, but Ye Manman didn’t notice anything, simply checked the time again, and continued.
"If you see Lin Zhishu looking for me, could you pass on a message? I need to go call a friend, just at the school’s phone room. If you see him, please let him find me there."
"Of course, you don’t have to wait around. If you want to leave, just go. If you don’t run into him, it’s no big deal, okay?"
She was clearly in a bit of a hurry, Liao Yonghe naturally nodded quickly, "Of course, you go make your call, leave this small task to us."
"Great, thank you guys, I’m off then."
Ye Manman waved to them and left the classroom.
Liao Yonghe was still craning his neck to watch the door, "Hey, what’s with this Lin Zhishu guy, making an appointment but being late? Is this meant to give our department’s beauty a hard time?"
Ji Bowen coughed a couple of times, silently tearing off the page with random scribbles.
"No idea."
He quickly packed his books, touched his grumbling stomach, looking somewhat relieved.
"Let’s go, time to eat."
He thought it was best this person didn’t show up, to prevent Ye Manman from being poached and him losing his role model.
Just as a faint smile appeared on his lips, a scholarly, bespectacled young man swiftly entered the classroom.
"Sorry to interrupt, but are you Ye Manman’s classmates?"
