"No... let it be. I will... find a way to keep these people away. Just... make sure nothing happens to Kyle in the meantime."

Rhiner told the pair as he faced the incoming trouble. He was confident in his powers to protect these people.

"Then, we will count on you."

As soon as the trio disappeared beyond the dungeon’s perimeters, Rhiner let out a sigh before he faced the incoming trouble.

He also felt a little foolish for telling the other side that he was going to protect them. If anything, he should have left with them.

But a part of him had told him that he needed to stay back, and Rhiner felt like he needed to listen to that voice. That was why he had ended up staying behind. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Even now, the dungeon was trying to extract its influence over him, forcing him to stay and submit to its power.

"What a hassle. The dungeon is trying to devour me. But I won’t let that happen. I am much stronger than this dungeon’s will."

Rhiner assured himself, but he did not feel so confident. The only reason he could keep going was because he felt the dungeon pushing him.

He had never felt this way. It was either to devour or be devoured for him now.

"Master, are you sure it’s fine to leave Hunter Rhiner behind? He might have agreed to block the people for us, but we did not need it with you around. Plus, Kyle might be angry because you left that man behind."

Kuro complained as he looked at his master with a serious look on his face. He had a feeling that Kyle won’t be happy with what happened.

But his master just chuckled and gave Kuro a look.

"Don’t worry about Rhiner. This won’t be his end. Kyle won’t like that... but this dungeon, it’s getting out of control. It has started to disobey me. It seems that it evolved in the time I was absent and is now trying to fulfill its purpose without my permission. So it’s time to break it open."

Theo looked at the turbulent energy of the dungeon beyond the limits. It pulsed, wanting to break the core it had been confined in.

But he was not worried about the dungeon actually breaking free. It had no will to get out of hand or anything.

"I see. So it is safe for now. What about Kyle and the mark on his hand? Isn’t that... a mark to choose the next high priest? Is Kyle going to become one—"

"Don’t be ridiculous. The position I chose for Kyle is much grander and more influential compared to a mere high priest. He will stand by my side when the time comes."

Kuro nodded, not willing to ask any more questions.

It might not look like it at first, but his lord was getting irritated at all these questions. And he still treasured his life enough to not put his neck on the line.

"Alright, I don’t have any further questions, master."

Kuro assured and Theo nodded.

Meanwhile, Kyle stirred in Theo’s grip and his grip became a little strong as he looked at Theo’s masked face.

"T-Theo... where?"

Kyle was out of it, but he could still recognize Theo just fine. It caused Theo’s heart to beat faster as he looked at Kyle in his arms.

"I will excuse myself now, master. Please call me if you need me."

Kuro told his master before he quickly left. He doubted his master even heard him because he was too busy looking down at his ’mate.’

Kyle’s eyes were hooded over, but awareness was slowly coming back to his face. He looked at Theo with an unidentified emotion on his face.

"W-Where... why are you here...?"

Kyle asked as he reached for Theo’s mask. Theo did not stop him and allowed Kyle to pull his mask down.

A familiar face looked back at Kyle and he had to wonder if it was his heat talking.

"Hmm, are you asking why I am here? Do you really not know why I am here? Or are you pretending to not know? Sometimes, I cannot tell with you, Kyle."

Theo spoke as he looked down at his one and only mate.

"Y-You... don’t know... I... cannot think..."

Kyle complained as he finally forced these words out. The more he tried to stay out of his heat, the more he felt dragged inside.

At this point, even Theo felt sorry for him.

"Your heat is bad, Kyle. But I need you to focus on me for a minute. I’ll help clear your mind. Just... focus on me and take a deep breath."

"Kyle... just focus on me. You are doing good. Does your head feel cleared now?"

Theo asked as he looked down at Kyle. Awareness was slowly creeping up his eyes and he could focus once more.

And as soon as he could focus, he grabbed Theo’s collar to shake him.

"What the heck are you doing? Why are you here? What about Ben and Emma? No, more importantly, this power... just who are you? You are not the Theo I know, right?"

Kyle asked... no, he demanded his answers from Theo. His hands were shaking a little as he kept his grip tight on Theo. But it was of no use because his body betrayed him at the last second.

"C-Curse you... what a hassle... you are..."

Kyle complained as he felt a small amount of heat surge through him once more.

Whatever Theo had done to him was not a complete solution and he could tell that he was about to go under once more.

"How about we talk about who I am after we are done with this dungeon? As for me being Theo... well, I am Theo as well, just not the part you are used to seeing either. There is far more to me and Theo than you can imagine. But I am not asking you to understand me or my reasons. For now, just trust me when I tell you that I won’t harm you."

The alpha told Kyle, and he felt like he should believe the alpha in front of him.
