Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Audition Invitation

"Don’t you have something to keep you busy?"

"I can spare a moment."

Maya was just making small talk, not intending to actually refuse. It didn’t really matter if Ryan gave her a ride or not.

Maya and Ryan headed down the stairs to the lobby and suddenly saw a familiar face.

Kiki was being adored by everyone as she walked towards the door, surrounded by quite a few bodyguards and assistants. Compared to before, her aura had changed a lot.

A lot of people in the lobby were watching her with eyes full of envy or admiration.

Maya sharply sensed the change in Kiki’s aura. She held her head high, seeming much more confident. How did she change so much in just a few days...

Perhaps sensing Maya’s questioning look, Ryan said, "Kiki recently signed a big endorsement deal."

"That’s not all, right?" Maya turned her head, her expression indifferent.

Ryan laughed, his expression complex: "Director Charles Wright specifically invited Kiki to be the lead actress in his new drama. You’ve heard of Charles Wright, right? He’s an amazing director of art films, and he’s been preparing this drama for a long time. It’s got a good chance at awards. As a newcomer, her future is limitless. The company is taking her very seriously because she’s on such a hot streak."

Maya slightly raised an eyebrow. She wasn’t surprised at all that Kiki landed a good role, after all, Kiki’s "main character aura" isn’t just for show.

But Maya was a bit perplexed because there was no mention in the plot of any collaboration between Charles Wright and Kiki.

But soon she was relieved. The author must choose a few significant events to write about; perhaps this is just a stepping stone on Kiki’s path to the top. As the protagonist, Kiki’s resources in the story are definitely more than just this.

"You aren’t upset? I remember you don’t get along with Kiki. Kiki is not an easy character, haven’t you noticed the way she looks at you? She’s always trying to step over you." Ryan looked at Maya, his eyes meaningful.

"I’m heartbroken." She said perfunctorily, still sounding a little lazy.

She was actually quite delighted, hoping Kiki would quickly reach the pinnacle of her life. Once she achieves the ending, Maya could slip away sooner! By then, the sky is the limit, and she could go wherever she wishes.

Because of their side-facing position, Ryan couldn’t see Maya’s expression and thought his purpose had been achieved, that Maya finally felt somewhat unwilling.

Ryan was very good at reading people’s thoughts. He admired Maya’s transformation and appreciated her current abilities, except for a few things he didn’t like, such as Maya’s fondness for idleness, contentment with her status quo, and lack of ambition.

Ryan felt there needed to be something to motivate Maya, to ignite her competitive spirit. At the very least, she couldn’t continue to live so aimlessly, with no pursuit beyond snacks and hot pot.

Now, Ryan felt he had achieved his purpose, so he smiled and said to Maya, "There’s something I forgot to tell you."

Pressure had to be applied, but not too tightly.

"You know Director Yvonne Hall, right?"

"Hmm..." Maya had met her at a party.

Ryan’s eyes were full of smiles: "Director Hall invited you to audition for the lead role in her new drama. Although it’s just an audition, Yvonne has a high status and high standards. She’s never personally invited an actor to audition before. From this point, you can see her appreciation for you. It’s almost a done deal; just consider it as going through the motions!"

"Didn’t you always have a rivalry with Kiki? Now that you’ve got an opportunity from Director Hall, you should perform well and beat her outright!"

"But it’s really strange... Why is Yvonne so focused on you? Maybe she simply appreciated your performance..."

Beat her... The protagonist is the favored child of fate, a darling of providence, with tremendous luck. How could Kiki be crushed by just a supporting character like her? Totally impossible! Ryan hadn’t read the plot, so of course, he wouldn’t know.

"Wait..." Maya frowned, "Which drama’s audition are you talking about?"

"’Mirror,’ a big production comparable to ’Wandering Beyond the Horizon,’ and ’Mirror’ has even more artistic value, with a greater chance of sweeping major awards."

"Mirror? How could it be Mirror?!" Maya’s expression cracked at a speed visible to the eye.

’Mirror’ was supposed to appear in the latter half of the story. According to the plot, it shouldn’t have appeared so soon, and the lead role of this drama should be Kiki’s. Also, Yvonne Hall was supposed to be a major benefactor for Kiki.

How did ’Mirror’ fall into her lap now?

No... If it’s just an audition, it doesn’t mean she’ll get the role. As long as she performs a bit poorly, the opportunity would definitely fall back to Kiki.

Then the plot could get back on track, with two major productions vying for Kiki, which is exactly a pleasing highlight for the readers, right?

Thinking this, Maya felt that the matter wasn’t such a big issue. Although there had been some deviations, ’Mirror’ still belonged to Kiki.

Ryan didn’t know what Maya was thinking: "I was planning to wait a couple of days to tell you about this since you just got back and might be a bit tired, needing a break."

Maya turned her head to meet Ryan’s gaze, and Ryan could clearly see the overly calm expression on Maya’s face.

As luck would have it, Maya and Kiki ran into each other at the door. Approaching from two different directions, the atmosphere grew tense for a moment.

Kiki stopped her lively conversation with those around her, her nerves taut, her eyes fixed firmly on Maya.

She hadn’t expected Maya to return so soon; she thought Maya would stay out in the wilderness a bit longer. Even though they hadn’t met in a while, Kiki had heard plenty about Maya’s heroic deeds, like how she saved people and led them to victory...

Really impressive!

Kiki didn’t approach Maya as she used to. She felt that she was no longer the country girl who had just entered Kyston. With so many impressed by her and favored by so many directors, she no longer felt inferior to Maya, never did.

Maya’s gaze fell faintly on Kiki’s face, for just a moment.

It was as if she were facing a complete stranger, someone not worthy of a second glance.

Maya knew Kiki was currently quite pleased with herself. The best approach was to rush over and taunt Kiki, speak harshly, to demonstrate her rare value as an antagonist. But having just come back from the wild, she was too tired to bother, and really, how could Kiki be more important than her cherished snacks!

Maya walked straight by without looking aside, her sunglasses and mask covering her face completely as she left the company. But the grace of her cascading hair and elegant figure had already drawn attention that couldn’t be ignored.
