Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Hot Pot in the Office

"Is this the lunch you prepared?"

Ian Rowe’s angry expression was still vivid in Maya Monroe’s mind, and she didn’t dare confront him now: "It’s not exactly lunch... but I indeed had someone prepare it."

Ian seemed to be lost in thought for a moment, then looked at Maya: "You haven’t eaten, have you? Come and eat."

Kane Davis stood nearby, realized the issue had been resolved, and then opened the door to leave. It wasn’t appropriate for him to stand there while the boss was having a moment with his wife.

Ian and Maya tacitly decided not to bring up what had just happened, and the usual calm atmosphere returned.

Maya still stood by, refusing: "This was prepared for you. I won’t eat. It’s getting late, I should just..."

Ian put down his chopsticks, slowly looking at her with authority: "Come over."

Sensing his tone was a bit too harsh, he added, "This food is enough for two people, come and eat with me."

Inwardly grumbling, Maya moved over.

She had completed her food delivery task, so why was she still here? And why did Ian want her to stay? Had she spoiled his fun earlier, making him lose a chance to be with a beautiful woman, and now, he didn’t plan to let her leave to make amends?

Maya became a bit wary. Ian was different from any character she’d encountered in books before. It seemed she needed to be more cautious around him in the future.

Ian noticed there was only one set of utensils, so he called Kane to bring up another set. Then he naturally served a bowl of rice and placed it in front of Maya.

"Aren’t you easily hungry? Eat first."

Maya sat next to Ian, realizing the distance between them was a bit too close, so she scooted to the right.

She felt Ian’s attitude towards her was a bit off, but she couldn’t put her finger on why.

Ian noticed her movement: "Are you that afraid of me?"

From her many experiences, Maya never failed to steady her emotions quickly.

"Honey, what are you talking about? How could I be afraid of you? I’m eager to be close to you, without so much as a centimeter between us! But, my throat has been a bit uncomfortable lately..." Maya said while covering her mouth and pretending to cough twice: "I don’t know if it’s inflamed or a cold. Anyway, I love you so much, I couldn’t bear to pass any illness to you. That would be worse than death for me."

Ian didn’t reveal her true intentions, listening to her turn back to her sweet-talking self, calling him "honey" in her sugary tone, his heart skipped a beat.

"Let’s eat."

Maya put down her hand: "Honey, you eat by yourself..."

The allure of delicious food was undeniable, but she had these braised pig’s feet almost every day. She would rather get home quickly and take a nap. Her sweet morning was interrupted by Yolanda Sawyer, and even after sleeping for another three hours, she still felt tired.

"If these aren’t to your taste, what would you like to eat?"

Maya’s eyes lit up, inevitably swallowing a bit: "I can eat anything?"

With Ian’s mention, Maya realized her stomach had been grumbling from hunger since morning.

Maya’s stomach growled audibly.

She couldn’t help but lower her head, her face turning red. Even with a thick skin, she found the situation a bit embarrassing.

"Did you not eat breakfast?"

Maya nodded seriously. So, her stomach growling definitely had a reason.

Ian felt a slight tug at his heart, realizing she got so busy preparing food for him that she skipped breakfast? Someone who never left food could actually do that for him...

Maya was oblivious to Ian’s thoughts, only sensing a few softer emotions in his gaze.

Why? Was he laughing at how she just embarrassed herself?

Maya felt a bit uncomfortable and hadn’t yet come up with a good reason to leave when Ian asked her again, "Anything at all, what would you like?"

At that moment, her craving for food overcame everything.

"I’m really not picky, just anything is fine... But since you’re asking, spicy crawfish and hotpot, please. And make it spicy hotpot, the bland ones just have no flavor."

Vincent Summers quickly rushed up the stairs with his car keys in hand. Kane had called to say Ian had encountered a big problem, that Maya caused chaos while delivering food to Ian at the company.

Vincent was in the middle of a contract negotiation and couldn’t make it in time. The moment he had the opportunity, he hurried over as fast as he could. He was concerned that Maya’s reckless behavior might adversely affect Ian, as Maya was suspicious, and even a few polite exchanges between Ian and other ladies at banquets would raise her suspicions.

The most extreme was when Maya directly removed a lady’s fur coat, cursing her shamelessly, and swatted away a champagne tower to shatter it.

Remembering the scene, Vincent could only think of "shrew" as the adjective for Maya.

Kane happened to be passing by with a coffee as Vincent came by, steam still rising from the cup: "Hey, Vincent, didn’t I message you saying it’s resolved? Why are you rushing over?"

Vincent was so uneasy during the contract talk that he was only focused on getting back to stop Maya’s antics, ignoring the message.

"Are you saying... it’s been resolved?" Vincent couldn’t believe it. From what he knew of Maya, it wasn’t likely for any conflict to end in less than two hours.

"Secretary Liu, are you saying that crazy woman Maya was already dragged out by security?"

Kane’s hand trembled, and the hot coffee spilled onto the back of his hand.

Vincent took the coffee from him: "Be more careful, how can you be so careless?"

Kane wiped his hands and took back the coffee from Vincent: "What are you talking about? How could she be dragged out by security... there’s no way Mrs. Monroe would be... taken out by security."

Kane was a newcomer transferred here this year, so it’s normal that he wasn’t familiar with Maya’s history. Vincent decided to personally go and see what was happening now.

Watching Vincent walk away, Kane reached a hand forward: "Hey, why are you leaving again..."

Hadn’t he already informed Vincent that things were resolved, and the boss’s office was a scene of tranquility right now?

Maya fished out some cooked duck intestines, dipped them in green and red pepper sauce, and asked Ian: "Honey, do you want some?"

Ian shook his head, nearly untouched tiger-skin pork and braised meat still in front of him...

Maya had already guessed he wouldn’t eat it, so she just asked as a formality before putting the duck intestines in her mouth the next second.
