The Unstoppable Comeback Of the Unrivaled Ex-Wife-Chapter 681 - 609
The nurse looked at Joanna and smiled. "No. Are you feeling a bit anxious,
Miss Pierce?"
Heaving a long sigh, Joanna said glumly, "Maybe."
Nancy came to the hospital with Adie and Abby in the evening. Adie held Joanna’s hand warmly and stroked her hair the moment he entered the ward. "Mommy, we’re done with school for the day. Are you feeling better?" He asked gently.
"Yes, I’m much better. I’ll be leaving the hospital in no time." Joanna touched Adie’s cheek. The sight of her children eased her pain much better than any medicine.
Looking cute in pigtail braids and a pink denim jumper, Abby carefully handed a cherry tomato to Joanna. "I grew a cherry tomato plant at the kindergarten, Mommy, and this is the only tomato that grew. I want you to have it; you’ll get better after you eat it.’
"Don’t you want to eat it since there’s only one, Abby?" Joanna stared at the cherry tomato in Abby’s hand as if it was a treasure.
"No, Mommy, I want you to eat the best food there is. I watered this plant and watched it grow every day. It’s a magical cherry tomato, and I’m sure it’ll protect you," Abby said seriously.
Joanna could tell that Abby spent a lot of effort to grow that cherry tomato plant, which was probably why the little girl genuinely thought that the cherry tomato was some kind of magical pill that could cure all illnesses. Naturally, Joanna didn’t want to rain on Abby’s parade, so she took the cherry tomato and stuffed it into her mouth. "Wow, it’s so sweet! It’s the sweetest cherry tomato I’ve ever had, and I feel so much better after eating it. I don’t feel any pain at all... Abby, are you a magician? You planted a magical cherry tomato!" Joanna said enthusiastically.
"Ah, wonderful! Mommy will recover now, I’m so happy!" Abby danced around the ward excitedly. She had been holding the cherry tomato in her hand since she left the kindergarten, taking great care not to crush it, and she now felt that her efforts had not been in vain. She had gotten what she had wished for.
Seeing that, Adie frowned thoughtfully, then said to Joanna, ’I’ve got another way to speed up your recovery, Mommy. Wait for me!"
"What do you mean?" Joanna glanced at Adie curiously. Frankly, she was worried about Adie’s sudden idea because he was too smart and his plans were always complex. She couldn’t afford any trouble right now.
"Don’t worry about it. Just wait for me, I’ll be right back." After that, Adie ran out of the ward.
"Hey, Adie... Adie!" Joanna called after Adie worriedly.
However, Nancy waved her hand dismissively. ’Don’t worry, Miss Joan, he’ll be fine. He knows you like flowers, and when we passed by the garden downstairs, he said he wanted to pick some for you. I think that’s what he’s going to do now."
Nancy was right-after Adie ran out of the ward, he went straight to the garden downstairs. Since the hospital was a high-end private hospital, it was equipped with a beautiful garden. There were only a few patients in the spacious garden, and it was not crowded at all.
Adie would pass by this large garden every time he came to visit Joanna, and he had always wanted to pick some of the colorful flowers in it for Joanna. His mother loved beautiful things, and flowers were one of the most beautiful things in the world, so Adie felt that Joanna would definitely be happy when she saw them.
There were many types of flowers blooming brightly in the garden, including large roses, lush rhododendrons, and bright peonies. It was a beautiful and calming sight, and Adie decided to pick one of each to put into a bouquet for his mother. He walked into the flower shrubs, and the image of him surrounded by fresh flowers looked like a scene from a movie.
As he plucked some flowers, he heard a woman’s angry voice as she spoke on the phone. "I don’t care, we have to put an end to this surgery and stop Owen from coming to the hospital! Is it that hard to make a person disappear?
People die in plane crashes and car accidents all the time! Doesn’t he like fishing? He can drown at sea then! Just stop calling me and asking questions, all I want to hear is that you’ve got the job done."
When he heard that, Adie stopped plucking flowers and focused on the woman. He instinctively felt that there was something wrong with this bad-tempered woman.
It was none other than Seraphina, and she didn’t notice Adie as she argued with the person on the phone. "Ace can’t know about this because he’s still in the hospital... All you have to know is that he wants to have the surgery. As long as you get rid of Owen, I can find him another neurosurgeon. Listen—we’ll be the ones who suffer if he gets back his memories, okay? Right, I’ll leave it to you then." After that, Seraphina impatiently ended the call and left the garden.
Ace? Adie tried to digest what he had just heard in the garden, and wondered if that lady had been talking about his scumbag daddy. If she was, it meant that his scumbag daddy had lost his memories... which was why he didn’t remember Adie.
Adie realized now that there might have been an accident, and Ace might not be a scumbag at all. It was a lot to think about.
Suddenly, a cold voice interrupted his thoughts. "Hey, what are you doing here alone? Where are your parents?"
Adie stood up and looked around. When he saw who had spoken, his eyes grew wide and the flowers fell from his hands.
The person standing before him was none other than Adie’s scumbag daddy.
Ugh... but it seemed like he wasn’t really a scumbag at all.
"Why aren’t you answering?" Ace studied Adie intently, then his features relaxed. "Oh, I know. You haven’t learned how to talk, have you?"
Rolling his eyes, Adie thought, ’Well, there’s definitely something wrong with his brain. No wonder he needs surgery. I’m almost five years old, so how can he think that I still can’t talk?’
"You shouldn’t go around alone if you can’t talk, or else your parents will be worried..." Ace reached his hand out to Adie, and ordered softly, "It isn’t safe there. Come here."
However, Adie glanced at Ace briefly and ignored him as he bent down and picked up the flowers on the ground.
"Ah, it seems you’re autistic too... You’re cute though." Heaving a long sigh, Ace glanced at Adie compassionately. Although he was usually quite aloof, he had a soft spot for children and furry animals, and would instinctively want to get close to them.
Suddenly, Ace felt rather melancholic. Joanna had two children, but Ace had none even though he was almost in his thirties. That made him rather pitiful, didn’t it?
"Aren’t you scared?" Ace wanted to go but was worried about leaving Adie alone. He told Adie patiently, "Come with me. I’ll take you to your parents."
Adie finally picked up all the flowers and tied them up into a bouquet again, sweating and panting. When he found that Ace was still there, he stared at him suspiciously and asked, "Have you really lost your memory?"
"So, you can talk?" Surprised, Ace smiled. "You’re a pretty interesting kid. I think you’re harder to handle than most adults."
"I asked you a question. Have you really lost your memory?" Adie ignored Ace’s teasing and asked Ace urgently. He needed to know the answer.
"How did you know?" Raising his brows, Ace questioned Adie curiously.
"Because you don’t know me," Adie replied naturally.
"Should I... know you?" Ace’s curiosity grew as he stared at the strange little boy.
"Yes, you should... but I won’t force you if you don’t want to." Shrugging, Adie said indifferently, "After all, it’s the same whether you’re around or not; you’re just an ornament in our family."
"Ahem!" Puzzled by Adie’s words, Ace said to him, "Tell me who your mother is. I don’t know you but maybe I know her."
"Joanna!" Adie shot Ace a disdainful glare. "Don’t tell me you don’t know my mother either! Whether you lost your memory or not, you’d be a scumbag if you’ve forgotten someone so important to you!"
"Joanna?" Ace snorted and smiled sarcastically. "Well, of course I know her. She’s the reason why I’m staying here. Do you see the mark on my neck? She nearly strangled me to death."
"Let me see!" Adie walked over to Ace and stood on tiptoe to inspect the purple bruises on his neck. After that, he nodded solemnly. "Mommy was pretty harsh but... you deserved it because you’ve betrayed her."
