Chapter 49: No Victor, No Surrender.

The monsters drew closer, thundering across the field.

Jack Voidspace raised his hand and shouted:

"KILL!"

---

With a single command, the entire group shifted into position, forming a vast circle.

At the forefront stood the nine primary teams, each trial candidate ready to prove their worth in the crucible of survival. The air was tense, thick with anticipation. This was no longer just a trial– it was a Battlefield.

In the blink of an eye, the monstrous creatures and the trial candidates clashed. The collision was immediate and chaotic, like a storm tearing through calm waters. The survival battle had officially begun.

With a single step, Jack Voidspace and Zeo vanished from sight, their forms blurring into the air. They reappeared moments later within the ranks of the enemy, targeting one of the Bone Devourer Skeletons.

Space itself seemed to fracture as their movement shattered the air, and in a flash, both they and the skeleton were gone... transported far across the dungeon to a remote corner of the trial’s heart.

Soon, distant echoes of clashing steel and magic erupted as three figures became locked in a fierce, unforgiving battle.

---

Elsewhere, the radiant Gina, flanked by her teammates Zaphi and Ashley Olsen, chose a Dark Horn Mountain Goat as their quarry.

On paper, the three working together should have had no problem... Gina’s strategic instincts, Zaphi’s precision, and Ashley’s strange yet potent style made them a formidable trio. Yet, these weren’t ordinary Monsters.

The Dark Horn Mountain Goats had legs like tightly coiled springs, able to leap with tremendous force while remaining astonishingly stable. Their dense fur was nearly impenetrable, acting as a natural armor.

Gina, with her sharp violet eyes that made her beauty even more ethereal, wielded twin short spears. She looked like a war goddess in her floating white attire, elegance dancing with lethality.

Zaphi, though not as striking as Gina, had a blade-like presence. Her crimson eyes matched the red blade in her hand, and her curling white hair only accentuated her intense aura.

Then there was Ashley... a young man whose feminine features were deceiving. What stood out about him were the three swords he carried: two were sheathed at his hips and one nearly as tall as him, strapped to his back. At the moment, he gripped a sword in each hand, preparing for the battle.

The trio launched a coordinated assault, managing to restrain the mountain goat for a few seconds.

But the beast suddenly exploded with power, its muscular frame bursting into motion. It sent both Gina and Zaphi flying, leaving Ashley to stand alone.

With a calm breath, he unsheathed the massive sword from his back, the blade humming with restrained power.

In another quadrant of the battlefield, the sibling duo of Karon and Carly faced off against another Dark Horn Mountain Goat.

Karon took the offensive, swinging his massive double-edged war hammer with wild, brutal precision, while Carly supported him with swift counters and crowd control techniques. Their synergy was undeniable, their movements synchronized like a well-rehearsed dance. It was clear they had trained together for years. However, their opponent was no fool.

The mountain goat, built for close combat, frequently countered Karon’s heavy swings and occasionally sent him flying into dungeon dead trees with sheer brute force.

---

Thunder cracked and lightning surged as Max Magnus and Brain Magnus engaged one of the Ironclaw Pathans. The creature was terrifying–its claws gleamed like metal, slicing through rock with ease.

Yet Max, steadfast and immovable, stood his ground, deflecting attacks with a mix of brute strength and careful timing.

Brain, the wild one, struck fast and hard with his lightning-charged sword, landing fierce blows that left charred flesh and cracked armor.

Their combined effort didn’t slay the monster, but it kept it restrained long enough to prevent catastrophe.

---

Meanwhile, Leo Mordric and Mulan Night confronted a Bone Devourer Skeleton. Leo, trained in the art of assassination, wielded flying daggers that glimmered in the dim light.

Mulan, a fire specialist, cloaked herself in dancing flames.

Their formation was simple: Mulan would engage the enemy head-on, using her fire to manipulate the battlefield, while Leo delivered precise, deadly strikes from the shadows.

However, the monster wasn’t fooled. It focused entirely on Mulan, recognizing her as the greater threat. With sinister intent, the creature launched a barrage of bone shards, its eerie glow intensifying as the battle raged.

---

On another front, Rider Wisewind–perhaps the quietest among the ancient families’ scions... fought alongside Vic Henley, a short-haired girl with deep, unreadable eyes. In her hands was a strange staff that pulsed with blue energy, soft to the eye but deadly in action.

Together, they faced the second Ironclaw Pathan.

Rider wasn’t a brawler– he was a rune craftsman. Each wave of his hand summoned ancient glyphs that exploded into brilliant arrays, sealing the monster’s movements.

Vic’s right hand morphed grotesquely, becoming massive and clawed as it fused with her staff. With a thunderous slam, she struck the beast, momentarily staggering it. Their coordination gave them the upper hand.

---

Further away, Tyler stood trembling, her hands clenched tightly around a black blade. Just the night before, she had slain a 2-star monster alone... but at a grievous cost.

Now, bruised and still healing, she stood with her cousin Denis, facing a 2-star+ Red Scales Poison Fire Lizard.

The beast exhaled deadly flames, its breath a horrifying mix of fire and poison.

Denis, wielding twin short swords imbued with the dark element, was the more composed of the two. As members of the Sherman bloodline, their affinity to darkness made them resistant to toxins, which is why they had chosen this target.

But their choice brought no comfort.

The lizard’s scales were like plated armor, and its fire attacks were devastating. Every clash barely chipped its defenses.

It became clear that defeating it wasn’t an option... not yet. They resolved to hold it off, praying for an opportunity.

The truth was stark: these monsters were too powerful. The trial candidates were, at best, peak Awakened rank experts. Teaming up just to hold off a single 2-star+ monster was already a monumental achievement. No one had the luxury to relax.

But amid all the chaos, one battle stood out–a confrontation so intense it went largely unnoticed.

Noe Laura Nihility.

The petite girl hovered in midair, an ability even Saint-ranked Morca couldn’t currently achieve.

Facing her was a towering Bone Devourer Skeleton, and in one staggering blow, she sent it flying across the dungeon.

How she floated or unleashed such raw power remained a mystery.

Boom. Boom.

The monster returned, one of its horns broken, its body cloaked in dark red mist as it regenerated. That was the horror of these creatures–they couldn’t be killed easily unless one overwhelmed them with absolute force. And yet, Noe persisted. She moved like a ghost of war, dashing through the air as flashes of her strikes echoed through the cavern.

Her presence ignited a fire in the hearts of the other candidates. They fought harder, pushed their limits, bled, and refused to fall.

But could sheer willpower tip the scale?

Could desire alone change fate?

If that were true, the monsters would already be dead.

For now, the battle remained at a brutal standstill–no victor, no surrender.

And Morca?

Well... where was he..?
