The Vampire King's Possession-Chapter 36 - . An apology
Chapter 36: 36. An apology
Vae pushed open the door to see a sleepy-eyed Mauve look back at her. She was still in bed and her hair was a mess. "Did you just wake up, Princess?"
Mauve rubbed her eyes and slowly answered, "Yes," her words sounded drawled. She yawned loudly and quickly covered her mouth with her hands.
"Would you like to eat now or do you want a bath first?"
"A bath please," she yawned some more. "I can't sleep anymore but I feel as though I am not fully awake yet."
She rubbed her eyes and slipped her legs out of the sheets. She leaned forward and pulled on the strings twice. "Did you get enough rest?" She asked Vae.
"Yes, princess. I get nothing but enough rest here. It's almost like a vacation except with vampires that…" Vae paused as she realized what she was about to say. "It is nice here." She finished with a forced grin.
Mauve lips formed a thin line but before she could speak they heard a knock. Vae walked to the door and threw it open. As expected, Mill's brother was behind it.
None of them said a word to him as he walked into the room. He dropped the tub but instead of leaving he started to look around awkwardly. Mauve frowned wondering what this was about.
He cleared his throat, "My sister, Mill said to confirm if you would prefer to eat in the dining room or your bedroom."
"Her bedroom," Vae answered and glared at him. "Would that be all?"
He stared back at Vae and a chill ran up Mauve's back but Vae didn't look a bit frightened. "No, I-I…" he cleared his throat again. "I apologized for my rude behavior earlier."
Vae scoffed, "While being rude…"
"It is fine," Mauve quickly said. "Thank you for your apology." She forced a smile. She wanted him out of the room.

He glanced in her direction and immediately left the room but not before glaring at Vae as he walked out. She stared back at him. Mauve could not comprehend how she was not scared.
"Princess, your bath is ready," Vae announced after she closed the door.
"I know, Vae." Mauve replied and stood to her feet.
Vae rushed to her side and helped her out of the dress. She bathed quickly and helped her into a night robe. She then sat by the dresser as Vae helped her with her hair.
"What did you do with your hair princess?" Vae scolded.
Mauve pouted, "Nothing."
"You didn't tie it up before sleeping."
Mauve pouted some more. "I didn't plan to fall asleep at the time."
"If you say so, princess." Vae brushed her hair in silence. "How would you like me to tie it up?" She asked after she had brushed off the tangles.
"Um, to the side and over my shoulder so it wouldn't bother me."
"Okay, would you like me to braid it?"
"Yes, please." She said giddily.
"Alright," Vae chuckled. "All done." She announced.
"It is so pretty. Thank you Vae."
"Don't thank me," she said with a blush. "It is my duty. I will go tell the servants, you are ready to eat and bring your food along with me. I will be back in a few minutes." She bowed and walked towards the door.
Mauve watched her leave but didn't stand up from the dresser, she stared at herself. The glow from the candle gave her a brown tint as she stared at the mirror. She smiled faintly before standing to her feet and moving to the bed.
She sat down and stared into space. She felt a little weird but couldn't explain what the feeling was. She heard a knock and without turning said, "Come in." The door opened and Vae walked in.
She placed the tray on the table and quickly excused herself.
"Is something wrong?" Mauve asked. Her face looked s little tired.
"No, there is a little something I need to attend to. I will be back before you are done eating."
"Okay," Mauve smiled faintly at her but she felt worried. She let her go and started to eat her food.
Vae didn't come back, Mill's brother came to pick up the tub and a different servant picked her plates.
She was told Vae had retired for the day. She nodded her head at the servant and resisted the urge to ask too many questions. She didn't need Vae's help anymore, she should let the maid get some rest.
Mauve on her bed until the sun rose, as soon as it was high enough and she was certain the house was quiet, she left her room. She stepped out slowly and tiptoed out of her room.
She scolded herself for acting like a thief and managed to walk normally. She got to the library and walked in. It was dark but she had come prepared, she held her lamp and used it to light most of the candles in the library.
The library shone as a fireplace and Mauve marveled at the huge space. It was really big. She turned around in the space, twirling her night robe in the candlelight.
Satisfied with her little spin, she decided to pick a book to read. Mauve frowned, she didn't want to pick from the section she chose last time. She was afraid she would end up with an even more horrible book.
The ladder caught her eyes and she didn't hesitate. She went up it as fast as she could. She didn't want to get caught. She went up quickly and got to the top shelves.
She looked down and she could barely see the floor. Thank goodness, she climbed up with a lamp, she wouldn't have been able to see anything.
Mauve hands ran over the books as she tried to make her choice. None of them made sense to her, the names were unfamiliar and most of them didn't have authors.
Her legs were killing her, she was barely holding one. With one hand holding the lamp and the other checking the books, it was a miracle she didn't fall.
"What do you think you are doing?" A thunderous voice echoed in the library.
Mauve gasped and lost her footing, falling towards the floor.
