Jael pulled his hand away, the look on her face was priceless. She had been shocked and then a little embarrassed but he could tell she did not completely hate it. "Go to sleep,"
he said and closed his eyes. "You won't even remember I was here by sunset."
"Are you insinuating that I have a bad memory?" Mauve asked.
Jael opened his eyes, she still had not moved from the spot she was in when she realized he wanted to join her. She still had the sheets to her chest and the slight smell of fear leaked out of her.
"Go to sleep, Mauve."
She jerked as he called her name. "I can't exactly sleep with a stranger in my bed."
"Stranger?!" Jael frowned, for some reason, this pissed him off.
Jael closed the gap between them in a millisecond. He planted a loud kiss on her lips and pulled back. She blinked, her startled look was more appealing to him than he could have imagined. It didn't help that she had her hair in pigtails.
He scanned her face, "You said this is normal for married couples. Go to sleep," he repeated and laid back on the pillow with his back to her.
She started to say something but decided against it and slowly laid on the bed. Jael turned around to see that she had the sheets over her shoulders and her back to him but that wasn't the disturbing part, he could sleep sideways in the distance between them. She had moved to the edge of the bed.
Jael chuckled and shook his head. He lay on his back and looked up at the ceiling. What was he doing here? He had asked himself a similar question before leaving his room but it had still not stopped him from coming here.
He slept better yesterday than he had in a while. It had taken him only a minute to know he would not be able to sleep as well if he remained in his bed. He had tried to convince himself that it was a bad idea and that it was better if he slept in his bed but the thought of her warm skin against his body had prevented him. He finally gave up and here he was.
Jael turned to look at her, from the stiffness of her back to her loud breathing to the even louder beat of her heart to her strong grip against the sheets, he could tell in one glance that she wasn't sleeping.
Jael sighed, he wanted to tell her something that would soothe her nerves as her restlessness also affected him but he knew he would just make it worse. He could only hope that she was more tired than she knew and would fall asleep soon enough.
It took a while but she finally fell asleep, her hand gripping the sheet relaxed and so did the rest of her body. Her breathing steadied and her heart slowed. She laid on her back, slightly turned away from the edge.
Jael resisted the urge to wrap her in his hands as he waited for her to fall into an even deeper sleep. He did not want to frighten her and he was afraid that if she woke up now, it would be even harder for her to fall asleep again.
Mauve felt cold hands wrap around her, and she groaned. She tried to open her eyes but her body was too tired to obey her wishes. She protested but she could tell she wasn't putting up much of a fight. Eventually, her body relaxed and she felt herself fall deeper into sleep.
Mauve opened her eyes to Jael's arms around her body, one of her legs was entangled with his. She was afraid to move, worried that she might wake him up as her mind wondered how in the gods' name had they gotten to this position.
"Go to sleep, Mauve. Hearing your heart rate suddenly spike up is a bit alarming."
Mauve gasped, "You can hear my heartbeat." She tried to turn around to look at him but he held her still.
"Yes, now shush. It is only about two hours before sunset, I will answer your questions in a few hours, now sleep."
Mauve pouted but didn't protest, Jael did sound quite sleepy. She reddened as she suddenly remembered she was pressed against his chest. Was this normal?
"I swear, I can almost hear your thoughts. Worry about it later." He said and licked her ear.
Mauve froze up as a shiver ran up her spine. How was that supposed to help her sleep? She was fully awake now. "You are not helping."
"I know of ways that can help you to sleep fast," Mauve felt his fingers trail her chest area.
"No, thank you. I can sleep just fine."
His hand fell to her stomach, "That is too bad. Not another word from you and try not to move too much."
Mauve nodded and stiffened her body.
"Not so stiff either. I am not going to bite your head off, just go to sleep."
Easy for him to say but it was not easy to sleep with someone pressed this close to her body. Mauve tried to relax but the fact that she could feel his outline pressed against her wasn't helping.
Also, what was that against the small of her waist? It felt a little warm compared to how cold the rest of his body was. She was tempted to ask what it was but somehow she knew she was better off not knowing.
Was this going to be a regular thing? She wasn't against it, it did kind of feel nice to sleep in someone's arms even though the arms were a little cold. It didn't affect her body temperature in any way, she could feel how cold he was but it didn't make her feel colder, instead, she wanted to warm him up.
Was something wrong with her? Mauve asked herself as she drifted off.
