Chapter 66: 66. An Old Garden

There was soil in blocks sectioned out on each side. The soil looked cracked and all dried up. There were leaves everywhere but as soon as she touched them, they scattered and blew away as dust.

All the plants looked all shriveled and dried up. Even if it was a lack of care, the plants shouldn't be in such a terrible state. She expected weeds to overrun the entire place, not dried branches and leaves.

However, from the state of the soil, it is obvious nothing can grow on it. She knew immediately that she would have to change it. She brought her hands to her chin, her eyes gleamed in excitement at the thought of what she would have to do.

A few vases laid around but they were in such poor taste too. About three were broken and Mauve wondered if it was as a result of wear or the wind. She squinted and picked up a shard. It was pretty sturdy and thick.

Mauve frowned and took a step forward, there was a statue right in the middle. It was a statue of an angel with a bow and arrows. The only reason she could tell it was an angel was the wings, the angel had the face of a child and the body of one.

She approached it and touched it. It was covered in grime, the once white color was now closer to ash, she wondered if cleaning it would return it to its former glory.

Around the statue were vases that Mauve knew had held beautiful flowers at some point. She could see the petals scattered around. Most of them were unrecognizable and she couldn't check as they crushed between the weight of her fingers.

She removed her hands from the statue and took a step forward to further examine the rooftop garden when she heard a loud bang on the door. She jerked at the interruption and closed her eyes. It has been mere minutes.

She made a fist and turned around towards the door, it was good to know she could come here whenever she wanted. The walls around the rooftop were a little raised, with bars similar to the ones surrounding the castle, this was relieving as she didn't want to trip and fall.

She walked to the door and knocked. The door was pulled open from the other side and Mauve stepped in. As soon as she did the door was immediately shut and was once again plunged into darkness. Mauve squinted, this part was annoying.

"That took forever," he muttered and she heard the bolts slide into place.

"No, it did… Ahh," she screamed as he picked her off the ground.

Mauve braced herself as Jael sped down the stairs, she couldn't see so she closed her eyes because it made no difference either way and this was much better than thinking she had gone blind.

She felt him go down another flight of stairs, she opened her eyes, it was brighter but she didn't recognize the pathway. He didn't give her a chance to complain as he immediately went down the next set of stairs.

The library came into view and Mauve knew their room was just downstairs. She was glad, being carried around was annoying in itself. She didn't understand why Jael preferred this as her mode of transportation.

He got to the door of her room and pushed the door open. He got to the bed in no time and placed her on it. He slid in beside her and grabbed her to himself. Mauve tried to pull out of his grip but he didn't let her.

"Vae got the human kingdom without incident."

"Greenham?" Mauve asked as she stopped fighting.

"Yeah," Jael.

"That's good to know. What about Damon?" She asked.

Jael shrugged, "He is alive."

Mauve spun to face Jael so fast her head almost made contact with him. "Did something happen to him?" She asked.

"He will live," he muttered and closed his eyes.

"Jael," she called.

"Shush and let me sleep, I had a rough day."

"Did something happen?" She asked.

Jael slowly opened his eyes but only about halfway. He glared at her with his half-hooded eyes. "I understand that you are in a swell mood now but I will like some rest."

Mauve sighed but didn't say anything more.

"Stop that!" Jael scolded.

Mauve pouted and stopped playing with his hair. "I am not doing anything."

"Yes you are, go to sleep."

"I am too excited to sleep," she complained.

"If you stopped messing around, you should fall asleep with no problem."

"Can I ask a question?" She asked.

"No," Jael muttered and wrapped his hands tighter around her.

"When can I get seeds for the garden?" She asked.

"What part of NO did you not understand? Also, don't even think about going there unless it's cleaned up."

Mauve gasped, "Then why did you show it to me?" She looked up at him.

"Because you looked dissatisfied when we went outside. Now, enough with the question and go to sleep."

Mauve reddened as she realized that her thoughts had been glaring on her face. "Thank you," she mumbled into his chest.

"If you are that grateful, you can show your gratitude."

Mauve frowned, "How do I do that?" She asked.

"Easy," Jael replied and covered her lips with his.

Mauve eyes widened in shock but she didn't break the kiss. He pulled away and stared hard at her dazed face. Now go to sleep.

Jael swore, it was pretty hard to control himself. He should return to sleeping alone but he knew he didn't want to do that. He squeezed her tighter and moved closer to him while making a soft sound.

He could tell she was close to falling asleep, she was talking anymore and she kept on making soft noises. He buried his face in her hair and took a deep breath. Her smell was overwhelming and he knew he was torturing himself but being here but it was the kind of torture he was into.

Jael felt her pulse and closed his eyes tighter. He was hungry, which was odd as he could go for two months without having to feed or feel a need to. Now that she was falling asleep, he had to try to do the same because he knew he wouldn't be able to keep his behavior under control.

The night had turned out worse than he thought and he didn't want to think about it. Damon had returned with bruises. Nothing life-threatening and he had gotten them from trying to get away from a paler not from being attacked.

His major worry was the Lords, having all of them in one room was not something he was happy about. But the sooner he could get the party out of the way, the better.

She turned around so she had her back to him and she scooted closer. Jael's vision blurred and his fangs engorged. They weren't the only part of him that grew.

His memories immediately filled up the last time and how she had rushed at him. He winced and tried to call down. He should leave the bed but he knew he wouldn't feel better until he sorted this out.

She muttered something in her sleep and turned again, rubbing all over him. She turned again and Jael swore. He knew she was trying to get comfortable but it wasn't exactly helping his plight.

She stilled and Jael felt his hand move of its own accord. He remembered the scream and his hand fell. She turned again to face him this time. He sighed and felt his fangs shrink. This was good, he could finally sleep.

She put one of her arms on his body as she slowly succumbed to the claws of her dreams, the other remained between them. Jael relaxed and closed his eyes. She then moved closer, pushing her body against him.

Jael's eyes flew open and his fangs grew so fast, it was almost painful. He didn't think, just moved. He covered her lips with his while one of his hands grabbed her chest and he groaned. He could never get over how soft they were.

Jael felt her slowly wake up but it didn't derail him instead he took a step further. His hand slipped down and went underneath her nightdress.

He caressed them as she kissed his back. It didn't ease the urgency he felt. His hands started to slip downward. He got to her pelvis and she froze, he felt hesitancy in her kiss.

Jake froze and immediately snapped out of it. He pulled away his hand and broke the kiss. He then pulled away from her and got out of bed.

"Where are you going?" She asked the desire apparent in her voice.

He threw his face away. "Letting you sleep," he mumbled and started walking.

He couldn't look at her; he knew he wouldn't be able to stop himself. He would go take some blood and go try to sleep. That should at least calm him down.
