Chapter 79: 79. Alone In Bed

The meal finished quickly and she was glad when it was all over. Lady Jevera didn't say a single word during the entire meal and she couldn't help but feel slightly uneasy about this. It didn't help that any time their eyes met, Mauve could feel a knife in her guts.

She was one of the first to finish eating and she rushed to her room without delay. Skipping all the way to her room. She closed the door and jumped into bed, grateful to be back in a comfortable space.

She lay on the bed unmoving, only her thoughts churned. Half the things happening around her confused her and it wasn't as though she could ask anybody. Mill was nice but she could recall Mill's reaction whenever she asked something she wasn't supposed to, she didn't want to relive that again.

She groaned, rolled to her side, and closed her eyes. She was uncomfortable lying down but she didn't want to sit down. A loud knock interrupted her thoughts but she didn't open her eyes nor did she move from the position she was lying.

"Come in," she said.

She heard the door open and a voice beside her barely two seconds later, "Mauve," Mill called, her voice sounding concerned. "Are you okay?"

Mill softly touched Mauve's knees. Her hands felt soft and even through her dress, Mauve could still feel how cold Mill's hands were but compared to Jael, Mill was a little warmer.

"Yes," she responded immediately. "I am just tired." She was fine, she was just feeling a bit overwhelmed.

"Alright, your bath is here. Do you think you can stand up?" Mill asked, she didn't sound completely convinced that Mauve was fine.

"Yes, of course." Mauve replied and sat upright.

"Do you want me to help you with the rest?" Mill offered.

"Yes please," Mauve replied.

Still sitting, Mill helped her out of her articles of clothing and carefully led her to the bath. "Thank you," Mauve said and settled into the tub.

Her bath was fast and Mauve was grateful for that. All she wanted to do was get into bed and sleep. She was exhausted and barely anything happened today. She could wait for the next day.

She crawled into bed and settled in bed. She closed her eyes and was asleep in seconds. The warm bath had made her even more tired and was asleep as soon as she got comfortable.

Mauve jerked awake and realized immediately that she was alone. There were no cold hands wrapped around her waist and no cold chest against her back. She wrapped her hands around her body. She looked at the door and there was no sign of anyone coming through.

She sat upright and stared hard at the door with a huge frown on her face. She blinked. It should be past noon, the fact that Jael wasn't here was a bit worrisome.

She shook her head as thoughts of him in bed with Jevera flashed in her mind. "What is wrong with me?" She scolded herself as she jumped out of bed.

However, she found that she couldn't suppress the thought and before she could stop herself, she walked towards the connecting door.

"Maybe he fell asleep and forgot to come to my room," she murmured to herself as she tried to find a reason for why she was about to barge into his room.

She reached for the handle and her hands fell to her sides as she contemplated if this was a good idea or not. She bit her nail and blinked vigorously. Jael would be annoyed with her if she interrupted.

She took a deep breath and stretched out her hand toward the door handle. She could always pretend that she was concerned. Well, it wasn't pretense as she was actually concerned but it was not the major reason.

"Fuck it!" She blurted out. She closed her eyes and turned the handle.

Mauve blinked rapidly at the sight before her. She couldn't see anything. It was pitch dark, not even the candlelight from her room was enough to show her anything.

"Jael," she softly called but got no response.

She left the door open and rushed to pick a light, she approached the connecting door and walked into his room. She couldn't comprehend how it was so dark.

The light wasn't doing much to brighten the room but at least she could see the oath in front of her. She carefully made her way to his bed and it was empty, as she had expected. If it wasn't she would have been pretty worried, especially with how unquietly she had invaded his room.

Satisfied that he was not in his bed. Mauve rushed to hers, not wanting to leave any clue that she had been in his bed. She closed the door, quietly, this time, and got into her bed.

She waited for a while, hoping that he would come to join her at some point but he never did and she ended up falling asleep, alone in a bed.

Mauve slowly woke up and rubbed her eyes. She groaned loudly as she stretched. She was alone again which was a little disappointing but not unusual as they had only woken up together once.

She reddened as she remembered Mill walking in on them. As if her thoughts had summoned the servant. She heard a soft knock and after a response from her Mill walked into the room.

"Mauve," she called softly. "Did you rest well?"

Her expression showed some excitement but not enough for Mauve to ask about.

"Yes," Mauve replied, nodding slowly.

"Your bath water is ready, I will ask Mack to bring it up now."

"Thank you," Mauve returned but made no attempt to leave the bed. She was in a foul mood.

She watched Mill pull the strings and soon enough, a knock could be heard on the door. Mill attended to him and he left the room soon enough.

Mill helped her into the water and did not say a word as the vampire scrubbed her clean. She wiped Mauve dry and Mauve remained expressionless.

"Would you like this dress?" Mill asked her.

Mauve shrugged, "Anything is fine."

Mill's brows dipped a little but she did not protest nor did she ask if anything was wrong. She walked closer to Mauve and helped her out of the dress.

"Your hair?"

"Just brush it," Mauve replied nonchalantly.

Mill sighed, "Is everything alright Mauve?"

Mauve blinked twice, "However do you mean?" She asked, feigning ignorance.

Mill shrugged once, shrugged twice. "Nothing really, you just seem a bit off."

"Hmm," Mauve returned but didn't give further explanation.

"Is there anything else you would like me to do for you?" She asked.

Mauve shook her head, "That is all. I will call you if I need anything."

"Okay, Mauve. The first meal should be ready in less than fifteen minutes."

"I will be there as soon as I can." Mauve said with finality to her tone and Mill immediately knew she was dismissed. If she stayed longer, she would be intruding.

Mill smiled faintly at Mill before turning around and walking out of the room. Mauve's gaze on the mirror never wavered as she watched Mill leave.

She sat in front of the mirror with a blank expression for a couple of minutes before she stood to her feet. She knew she still had at least a full ten minutes before she had to go to the dining hall but staying in the room for another minute was killing her.

Before going out the main door, she walked to the connecting door and almost opened it but quickly changed her mind. She left the room before a drastic thought would slip into her mind.

She walked briskly as she headed for the dining hall. She pushed the doors open and quickly took a seat as she waited. There better be a good enough reason for why she had slept alone and she prayed it wasn't what she thought.

The first person to walk in was Danag, he walked in with a hint of a smile on his face and behind was Erick.

"Princess," he called when he got closer.

"Danag," she called back without a smile.

He arched his head to the side and Mauve could see his puzzled expression.

"Did you rest well?" She added but her expression didn't change.

"Um, yes. Yes, I did." He took a seat but kept his gaze on her. "Is everything alright?"

"Everything is fine," she said stiffly.

She turned to look at Erick who was glaring at her, Mauve didn't hesitate, she glared back at him.

Damon appeared two minutes later. They were all seated for a full ten minutes before the door opened again and the door opened to reveal Jael. However, he wasn't alone. Strapped to his arm was Jevera and she had her entire body pressed up against him. Mauve's mouth immediately went sour and she knew she wouldn't be able to enjoy breakfast.
