Chapter 27: Chapter 27: But We’re Celebrities

Chelsea Raines was already convinced that Naomi had relied on her wealth to complete the task, so no amount of explaining would do any good.

Seeing Chelsea’s face so twisted with rage, Naomi Kenway couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.

Chelsea shot her a furious glare, then grabbed Jared Woods’s hand and stalked off into the distance.

"Rachel can’t just skip eating, can she?" Margaret Jennings suggested. "Should we go ask her again?"

Naomi Kenway’s plot of land was at the very edge. Before calling for Naomi, they had passed by Renee Jennings’s potato field and called for her to eat, but Renee was so busy she didn’t even have time to look up.

The group arrived at Renee Jennings’s field again. Renee was splattered with mud from head to toe. She seemed to have choked on some dirt blown by the wind, clutching her throat and coughing wretchedly.

The Renee Jennings of this moment looked nothing like a glamorous celebrity.

Chelsea Raines walked over, her voice full of pity. "Rachel, stop working so hard. Come have lunch with us, okay?"

Renee Jennings looked up and was surprised to spot a figure. "Naomi? Is Naomi going to eat too?"

"Yes," Margaret Jennings said, walking over. "You can’t work on an empty stomach. How can you keep going without food?"

"I..." Renee Jennings’s lips moved. She looked at the relaxed expression on Naomi Kenway’s face. "Nina, how many potatoes have you dug up?"

Naomi Kenway watched her with amusement. "What’s this? Are you offering to help me dig potatoes? I didn’t realize you were so kind-hearted."

It was rare for Naomi to praise her, but Renee Jennings couldn’t manage a smile. "That’s not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean?"

Such a simple question, yet Naomi’s retort left her speechless. Renee Jennings gritted her teeth in frustration. She couldn’t very well admit she was afraid Naomi would surpass her.

"Nothing... just asking..."

Chelsea Raines shook Renee Jennings’s arm. "Rachel, just come eat with us. I know you want to finish the task quickly, but you can’t do that without any food! You won’t have the strength to work! Besides, Mona is hungry, and you can’t let a child go hungry!"

A RUMBLE sounded—it was Renee Jennings’s stomach. She instantly turned beet red.

’Chelsea Raines did have a point. I can’t keep digging these potatoes without refueling. Besides, even Naomi has stopped for lunch.’

After some consideration, Renee Jennings called out to Nathan Lynch, who was playing nearby.

Chelsea Raines let go of Renee Jennings’s arm. She opened her palm and found some dirt on it, rubbed off from Renee’s arm.

Chelsea was a clean freak and had the sudden urge to brush off the dirt and immediately wash her hands, but since Renee Jennings was right next to her, she had no choice but to close her hand again.

She looked up at Renee Jennings and saw that Renee was just as embarrassed as she was. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

[LMAO I’m dying, they’re both so damn awkward. I could laugh at Renee Jennings’s expression for the rest of my life, no joke.]

[If you’re a celebrity, you should manage your image. What’s with being all covered in dirt? Now look at Naomi Kenway, she’s still stunningly beautiful!]

[The person above is being too harsh on celebrities, don’t you think? Celebs are human too. How can you ignore how hard Rachel is working on this task? Naomi Kenway barely dug up two potatoes, of course her clothes are still clean!]

[If you’d actually watched Naomi Kenway’s stream earlier, you’d know she was digging way faster than Renee Jennings! You’re just a contrarian!]

...

The group walked toward the rising smoke. After a few hundred meters, they indeed saw a house. Behind it was a cherry orchard enclosed by a fence. The family had probably built the house there to guard the cherries.

Chelsea Raines was at the very front. She yelled, "Anyone home? Is anybody here?!"

Ruby Preston looked at her disapprovingly. "We should knock first."

Chelsea snorted dismissively. "Who cares about being polite in a backwater place like this?"

As she spoke, she actually kicked the door with her high heel.

The door flew open with a BANG, and a woman with a sour expression came out. "What’s with all the kicking? You got a death wish?!"

She was speaking in a local dialect, but they could roughly understand her.

Chelsea Raines clutched her chest and recoiled. "You—what kind of attitude is that?!"

Ruby Preston quickly apologized. "I’m so sorry. My companion was being too reckless. I apologize on her behalf."

The woman’s expression softened slightly. She sized them up. "Did you need something?"

"Well, you see, we were hoping to get a meal here. Would you mind..."

Before Ruby Preston could finish, the woman cut her off coldly. "No. There’s not enough food in the house."

The refusal left almost everyone stunned. They were big-name celebrities, used to being fawned over wherever they went. Countless fans would wait outside filming locations all night just to catch a glimpse of them.

Renee Jennings frantically grabbed the woman’s hand. "But we’re celebrities! We’re filming a show! See, there are cameras all around. Ma’am, please help us!"

"I don’t care what kind of ’-brities’ you are. I said there isn’t enough food, and there isn’t. Go somewhere else!" the woman said, trying to shake Renee Jennings’s hand off.

’This place is so remote. If we leave this house, who knows how long it’ll take to find another one?’

Renee Jennings refused to give up. "I’m Renee Jennings! We’re participating in the filming of ’My Super Mom’! Don’t you recognize me?"

"You? No impression. Them, on the other hand, I recognize a little."

Renee Jennings had the lowest status among the guests. After being the center of attention earlier, she had almost forgotten this fact.

Chelsea Raines said angrily, "Why do you have to be so nasty?!"

The only response she got was the SLAM of the door shutting.

Chelsea was furious and kicked the door hard a few more times with her high heel.

Renee Jennings turned around, her mood foul, only to see Naomi Kenway leading Ian Shaw away.

"Nina, where are you going? We haven’t eaten yet!"

Naomi Kenway looked back at her, her gaze deep. "I find you all embarrassing."

"She doesn’t owe us anything. She’s under no obligation to provide us with lunch."

Then she turned and walked away with Ian Shaw.

The other guests seemed to have a realization as well. Living in their comfort zone for too long had made them gradually forget certain things.

[Naomi Kenway said it perfectly! This is the first time I’ve realized she’s totally my kind of person! I’m getting second-hand embarrassment from these other guests!]

[Seriously... is Chelsea Raines okay? Why is she so obnoxious? She looks down on the woman but still expects her to serve her hand and foot. Does she really think she’s an empress or something?]

[Ugh... what is wrong with these people’s values...?]

[Renee Jennings’s line "But we’re celebrities!" is hilarious. Thanks, I’m officially an anti-fan now.]

[That poor woman got yelled at for no reason. I feel so bad for her!]

...

As "My Super Mom" was a hit variety show, the incident of the guests acting like divas quickly shot to the top of the trending topics. Renee Jennings was heavily criticized for her "But we’re celebrities!" line, while Naomi Kenway gained a new wave of fans.
