The Villainess Wants a Divorce:Beast Husbands Regret It to Tears-Chapter 119: Attachment
If the dough is made and baked, it should be more delicious and filling than just roasting the fruits directly.
"Grinding flour?"
Gideon Larkin’s voice suddenly interrupted.
He had just returned with an armful of firewood, sweat beading his brow.
Hearing this, he immediately threw down the pile and rushed over in a few quick steps.
"That’s easy! I’ll grind it for you right now!"
He picked up a Pinecone, ready to rub it on the stone slab.
"Hold on!"
Seraphina Caldwell quickly grabbed his wrist.
"That’s not how you grind it."
"It should go into the pot, where you crush it bit by bit. Only with fine grinding can the flour be soft and the resulting food aromatic."
She remembered that only with patience could one obtain a powder as delicate as snow.
Gideon Larkin was taken aback, blinking in surprise.
"No problem at all! Just wait!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he turned and dashed towards the pile of stones at the edge of the tribe.
In just a few minutes, he returned carrying a rough stone pot.
He had also picked up a smooth stone to use as a pestle.
Carefully, he scooped out the fruit flesh and placed it into the stone pot.
The fruit shell was tough, so he had to pry it open bit by bit with a dagger.
He then raised the stone pestle and started pounding.
At first, the force was uncontrolled, and the pounding was loud, causing fruit flesh to scatter everywhere.
Before long, a small pile of fine light yellow powder had built up in the pot.
"Done! What’s next?"
Gideon Larkin pushed the stone pot in front of Seraphina Caldwell.
Seraphina Caldwell smiled.
She slowly crouched down, scooping a bit of clean water with a wooden spoon and pouring it into the white powder inside the stone trough.
"First, knead the flour into dough, ensuring it’s even. It shouldn’t be too dry or too wet. Once the dough is smooth, roll it out thinner, cut it into small pieces, and then throw it directly into hot soup to cook—simple and tasty."
In no time, the previously loose powder turned into a lump of dough.
Next, she laid the dough flat on a clean stone slab, gently pressing it with another slightly heavier stone slab.
Afterward, she took out a sharp stone knife and slowly cut along the straight line.
Kaelan Hawthorne’s sharp eyes and quick reflexes quickly noticed another unused stone pot. He immediately bent down to move it onto the fire and set it up steadily.
Then, rummaging through a Beast Skin Bag nearby, he pulled out some roasted meat leftover from the previous night.
He also tossed in a few freshly dug sweet potato fruits.
As the flames licked the bottom of the pot, the water temperature gradually rose.
At this moment, Seraphina Caldwell gently lifted the cut dough pieces and, with a light shake, let them fall into the boiling soup.
The moment the dough pieces surfaced, an enticing aroma quickly wafted from the pot.
Gideon Larkin stood nearby, swallowing hard, his eyes glued to the steaming stone pot.
"Alright, let’s eat."
Seraphina Caldwell announced softly.
She ladled the soup with the dough pieces, each scoop full to the brim.
First, she served herself a bowl, then distributed bowls to Kaelan Hawthorne, Gideon Larkin, and a few other companions in turn.
Just as she raised her bowl, ready to blow on the steaming soup, she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.
She instinctively turned around, pausing as her eyes met the person she saw.
It was Jasper Quinn.
He stood a few steps away, tightly clutching a grayish-brown Beast Skin Bag in his hands.
"...This is for you."
"I... noticed yesterday how much you enjoyed the Pinecones, how happy you were eating them, so I thought maybe you also liked other wild fruits. So this morning, I quietly slipped to the edge of the forest, where there’s a patch of wild fruit bushes, and the freshly ripened fruits are especially fresh. I picked a bunch and selected the plum ones... brought them for you..."
Hearing about the wild fruits, Seraphina Caldwell’s eyes instantly lit up.
If she could gather more varieties of rare fruits, the stockpile in her space would become even richer.
It would also provide an extra layer of security in emergencies.
She quickly walked over, eagerly taking the bulging Beast Skin Bag from Jasper Quinn’s hands.
"You’re so thoughtful! Really, thank you so much! I was just worried there wouldn’t be any fruits to eat today, and here you are, bringing them over. You really understand me, don’t you?"
After speaking, she suddenly remembered something and seized the opportunity to ask.
"By the way, have you had breakfast yet? We just made some noodle soup, and it tastes great. There’s still some left, would you like to try some? Don’t just stand there, come over and sit!"
Considering he had made a special trip to bring fruits, she couldn’t just accept them for free.
Besides, there was plenty of soup, and adding one more bowl wouldn’t hurt. Having an extra person to share the meal was just right.
Jasper Quinn had already been tempted by the aroma, his stomach growling uncontrollably.
Hearing this, his eyes lit up, nodding eagerly.
"Yes, yes! Can I really? I hope I’m not intruding too much. I... I wasn’t planning to join in, but the smell is just too tempting..."
"Not at all!"
Seraphina Caldwell’s smile grew even more radiant.
She didn’t notice the expressions on the faces of the three Beast Husbands behind her.
They exchanged glances, but not a word escaped their lips.
Kaelan Hawthorne was the most perceptive.
As soon as Seraphina Caldwell finished speaking, he sprang into action, ladling half a bowl of soup and handing it to Jasper Quinn.
"Here, eat while it’s hot."
Jasper Quinn accepted the bowl, cradling it in both hands, cautiously sipping the soup.
This taste was more delightful than anything he’d ever eaten in his life!
His eyes widened, and he quickly took a bite of the noodle piece.
"Oh my gosh! This is incredibly delicious! I’ve never seen noodles made like this before! Seraphina Caldwell, can you teach me how to make this? I really want to learn!"
Seraphina Caldwell chuckled lightly.
"Of course, Kaelan Hawthorne can teach you. He makes it even better than I do and remembers the steps clearly."
She turned to glance at Kaelan Hawthorne.
He had always been quick-minded and skilled with his hands, surely having memorized the method by now.
Kaelan Hawthorne began explaining the steps.
"First, simmer a bone broth, add fruit pulp to remove the gamey taste and enhance the flavor. When adding the noodles, do it in three stages to prevent them from sticking together..."
But Seraphina Caldwell couldn’t help her gaze from drifting to Jasper Quinn’s rabbit ears atop his head.
Those ears stood upright, the fur fluffy and soft.
Jasper Quinn listened intently, his ears twitching.
He didn’t speak, but as Kaelan Hawthorne explained, his ears perked up even more.
Seraphina Caldwell stared at those ears, only taking a couple of seconds before snapping back to reality and hurriedly shifting her gaze away.
The truth was...
She loved furry ears.
Especially when they belonged to someone like Jasper Quinn, so gentle, making her heart melt.
She’d even secretly considered whether to try with Jasper Quinn, break the contract, and re-establish a bond to keep him with her.
But hearing what Wyatt Yardley said yesterday, she gave up the idea.
During his breeding season, his clinging to her wasn’t out of true affection, just a male’s instinctual dependence during that special time.
That attachment might not stem from genuine feeling.
She hadn’t fully awoken yet, unable to rashly break the contract.
Yet if she didn’t break the contract and wanted to add a new Beast Husband...
Perhaps that wasn’t quite proper either.
Such were the rules: as the female contract holder, once the bond was formed, it couldn’t easily be changed.
But if the contract wasn’t broken, how could she make room for new ties?
These thoughts churned back and forth in her mind.
Beastfolk’s senses are much sharper than humans, especially the beasts.
From the moment she glanced over, Jasper Quinn had noticed.
He didn’t say a word, but occasionally couldn’t help stealing a glance back at Seraphina Caldwell.
Once Seraphina Caldwell withdrew her gaze, the three Beast Husbands behind her finally breathed a sigh of relief.
They exchanged looks, standing silently in place, standing by Seraphina Caldwell’s side.
Jasper Quinn finished the last sip of soup, holding the empty bowl, his eyes turning towards Kaelan Hawthorne.
