Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Have They Fallen for Her?

These last few days of being together day and night, Wyatt Yardley has come to understand Seraphina Caldwell’s nature fully.

On the surface, she is gentle and considerate.

But deep down, her stubbornness and resilience are sharper than any Dire Beast clad in iron armor.

She seems easygoing, always smiling at everyone and nodding without causing any trouble.

Yet, when Silas Shaw aggressively approached her and made demands, she didn’t say a word, just gently shook her head.

On matters of principle, she never takes a single step back.

If such a person like her were truly pushed to the brink of desperation...

Wyatt Yardley’s hand hung in midair, the tips trembling slightly.

If he were to touch her, even just a light graze, the consequences would be unimaginable.

In the end, he slowly, inch by inch, withdrew his hand.

He lay down on his side, with his back to Seraphina Caldwell, raising his arm to cover his eyes.

Isaac Vaughn exhaled in relief.

He carefully reached out, gently pulling Seraphina away from Wyatt Yardley and into his embrace.

For a moment there, if Evan Orwell hadn’t stepped in and stopped Wyatt in time, he hardly dared to imagine how serious the consequences could have been.

Evan Orwell stood by the cave entrance, coldly observing it all.

He glanced at Seraphina for a moment, then silently turned away, returning to his original spot and sitting down.

Some things are quietly changing.

And the cost of that change may be far heavier than imagined.

In the corner, Gideon Larkin hadn’t slept at all.

He had seen the scene just now clearly.

Wyatt Yardley’s impulsiveness, Isaac Vaughn’s intervention, Evan Orwell’s actions.

These two...

One was almost losing control, the other desperately protective.

Their emotions towards Seraphina had already gone beyond the boundaries of ordinary companionship.

Gideon Larkin furrowed his brow slowly.

Were they really caught up in it?

On the other side, Kaelan Hawthorne hadn’t closed his eyes either.

He leaned against a flat stone slab, hands behind his head, his eyes repeatedly falling on Seraphina.

In Kaelan Hawthorne’s mind, her every move from these days replayed over and over.

The Seraphina of the past was cunning and ruthless, willing to do anything to achieve her goals.

But now, she refused Silas Shaw, not for personal gain, just because she didn’t want to betray her true self.

It was all too real to be an act, yet Kaelan Hawthorne still couldn’t easily trust.

Only Seraphina slept soundly and peacefully.

She didn’t know, her presence had quietly stirred everyone’s emotions.

The next morning, Seraphina was awakened by the fragrant aroma of grilled meat.

She wrinkled her nose and slowly opened her eyes.

"Awake?"

Isaac Vaughn had been watching for her to stir, and as soon as she opened her eyes, he stood up from beside the fire.

He picked up a jug full of clear water and walked over quickly.

"Wash your face first, wake up a bit. The meat will be ready soon, just a little longer on the grill."

Seraphina took the clay pot, plucked a thin branch of thorny fruit to use as a toothbrush, and gently brushed her teeth.

"Wait a minute, didn’t we finish all the meat last night? There were hardly any bones left. Where’s this smell coming from?"

Isaac Vaughn smiled.

"It’s Wyatt."

He said softly.

"He went out again in the middle of the night. Said he heard something in the mountains and went quietly to investigate. Sure enough, he caught two wild rabbits and a mountain chicken."

"Did he go by himself?"

Seraphina was slightly taken aback.

Isaac Vaughn nodded.

"Yeah. He didn’t want to disturb everyone, moved very quietly, and returned before dawn. When he started the fire, he kept it low to avoid the smoke attracting any wild beasts."

As he spoke, he looked over to where Wyatt was, by the fire, turning the meat.

Isaac Vaughn’s voice lowered a bit.

"He... actually didn’t sleep."

Seraphina was startled.

She looked at Wyatt’s back and suddenly felt that his figure seemed colder than yesterday.

But she didn’t ask further, just lowered her head and continued brushing her teeth.

After finishing her morning routine, Seraphina slowly walked out of the damp cave and immediately saw Wyatt squatting by the fire.

He was focused, threading pieces of fresh beast meat onto sharpened wooden skewers.

On one side of the fire, there was a neat pile of wild fruits.

Seraphina’s heart warmed, and she couldn’t help but smile at him, raising her hand to wave.

"Wyatt, you went out hunting in the middle of the night, aren’t you tired? You’re back so early preparing food, thanks for your hard work."

"After the meal, you should get some sleep, don’t wear yourself out."

Hearing her voice, Wyatt looked up.

He didn’t speak, just stared at her for a couple of seconds before suddenly getting up.

Before Seraphina could react, he had already taken two steps forward and wrapped her entirely in his arms.

Seraphina was caught off guard, her body slightly stiffened.

"I’m not tired, not sleepy either... just let me hold you like this, okay? Just a little longer."

Her heart skipped a beat as she suddenly remembered something—he was in his mating season!

No wonder the usually reserved Wyatt lost control so suddenly.

She took a gentle breath and softly patted his back.

"If you’re not going to sleep, I’ll stay with you. Later, I have to see the Clan Leader and ask about my father’s matters, can’t afford any delays. Let’s have breakfast first, okay? You can hold me as long as you want afterward."

Wyatt paused for a moment and slowly released his arms.

Finally, he replied in a low voice, "Alright."

Seraphina didn’t think too much about it, as she knew this state was only temporary.

She blinked, and her attention was quickly caught by the colorful pile of wild fruits beside her.

Her eyes widened instantly when they landed on a few bright red small fruits among them.

Those are tomatoes!

Real, genuine tomatoes!

She held her breath, carefully picking one up with her fingertips, and gently pinched it.

Heavens, what a godsend! She almost wanted to cheer aloud.

Wyatt had been watching her expressions.

Seeing her staring at the fruits in a daze, he also took a couple of steps closer, standing beside her and looking in the same direction.

"These are called Red Pearl Fruits, they’re sweet and sour, juicy, and the Beastfolk all love them. If you like, I can go pick some more from the back mountain later."

"No, no, these are enough already!"

Seraphina quickly waved her hand, afraid he’d misunderstand and think she was dissatisfied, hurriedly explaining.

"These are enough to eat, too much would be wasteful."

After saying that, she quickly picked four or five of the ripest and reddest fruits and packed them into her little beast skin pouch.

On the surface, she was gathering food.

In reality, she had quietly stored those tomatoes into her personal space.

Tomatoes!

These are treasures that could change the food structure!

Just imagining that rich sweet and sour taste made the corners of her mouth involuntarily lift.

At this moment, Kaelan Hawthorne was squatting by the fire, gently turning the skewers of rabbit meat.

He glanced at the few remaining prey beside him.

"Just a little longer, the meat is almost ready."

"With this amount of meat, four people split it, each only gets a piece or two, far from enough to be full."

Seraphina also noticed the issue, but her mind quickly turned, and an idea struck her!

She turned to Kaelan Hawthorne.

"Kaelan, could you help me find a stone pot? I’ll make a new dish and make sure everyone gets full and enjoys it."

"A stone pot?"

Before Kaelan could respond, Wyatt had already darted over.

Seraphina, seeing this, slightly curved her lips.

"Once the pot is ready, I’ll get started right away."

As soon as she said this, the charging Wyatt came to a sudden halt, instinctively taking two steps back.
