The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 20: A Witch? She Can Be One Too
Elias Moretti reached up and wiped the rain from his face. When he looked at Evangeline again, the look in his eyes had changed.
He had harbored doubts, suspecting the one who’d toyed with him last night wasn’t this female before him. But now that she had displayed the abilities of a Witch, all doubt was gone. It was her!
A Witch who could both use Invisibility and summon rain—a dual ability—was truly unbelievable.
It wasn’t just Elias Moretti. On the altar, when the mysterious man in the snake-head mask saw the extinguished torches, the look in his eyes changed as well. He stared grimly at Evangeline and asked in a chilling voice, "Are you the Witch from the Midridge Tribe?"
"No, I don’t belong to any tribe. I am a free Witch!"
Evangeline lifted her chin slightly. Though her appearance was plain, her aura was noble and uninhibited.
She walked past the numerous Beastmen prostrated on the ground and headed toward the altar.
Elias Moretti’s expression darkened. Just as he was about to speak, he saw the Witch on the altar walk toward Evangeline. He fell silent, but his hand tightened slightly. ’This strange female is quite capable; she could be useful. If the Witch kills her, she’ll be worthless. Should I protect her?’
As Elias Moretti was pondering, an eerie green light suddenly surged from the mysterious man’s palm. Like a will-o’-the-wisp, it carried a bone-chilling coldness and shot toward Evangeline’s head like a vicious claw.
Evangeline’s eyes narrowed slightly, a cold glint flashing in their depths.
She instantly clenched her fingers into a fist and shot it straight at the mysterious man’s chest. In that instant, a vast and surging aura erupted from her, causing the very air around them to tremble!
Their palm and fist collided with a muffled BANG! that sounded like a sudden clap of thunder.
The next moment, veins bulged on the side of the mysterious man’s neck, and his entire body was forced back half a step!
The downpour gradually subsided. It seemed as if even the sound of the wind had frozen, and no one around dared to move.
Elias Moretti was slightly stunned, his gaze toward Evangeline changing again and again. ’A female, and one without a Star Pattern at that... Even for a Witch, how could she possess such power? To think even Gable isn’t her match?’
Evangeline lifted her chin and huffed lightly. "I told you. I’m the real Beast God’s Envoy."
’I was willing to keep a low profile because I haven’t figured out the power hierarchy on the Beastman Continent, but I have no intention of being a pushover. If someone tries to bully me, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my mission... heh, I’ll beat them up first!’
Thinking this, Evangeline glanced sideways at the stunned Elias Moretti and gave him a smile.
’If this weren’t the Grymdale Tribe’s territory, and if I didn’t have to consider Thorne, I’d be skinning him alive today!’
Elias Moretti’s pupils contracted. The earlier disdain on his face vanished, replaced by a flicker of keen interest.
He slowly rose to his feet, the corners of his mouth lifting into a meaningful smile. He looked at Evangeline and said, "It seems I’ve underestimated you. With you joining the Grymdale Tribe, it’s only a matter of time before we dominate Norfell!"
After speaking, he leaned forward slightly, his posture inquisitive, and asked in a low voice, "Little maiden, what is your name? And which clan of Beastman are you from?"
The Grymdale Tribe was renowned throughout Norfell and had an excellent information network, yet they had never heard of a Witch with dual abilities. ’Could this little maiden be from beyond Norfell?’
As he thought this, a trace of vigilance flashed in Elias Moretti’s eyes.
He had only heard rumors about the world beyond Norfell and had never been there himself. This was because Norfell was a bitter, frozen land trapped by the Beast God. The only way to leave was to cross the treacherous Triangle Sea.
"None of your damn business," Evangeline said, rolling her eyes, not bothering to deal with this two-faced bastard.
Elias Moretti’s face darkened, and he nearly lost his gentle facade as a sinister glint swirled in his eyes.
Evangeline paid him no mind, instead raising her gaze to Thorne, who was bound to the stone pillar.
From beginning to end, his lips had remained tightly sealed, except for those few curses filled with soaring hatred.
Even though her interference had disrupted the totem ritual, allowing him to narrowly escape death, his green-tinged eyes remained as if laced with poison, churning with a hostility that showed no sign of abating.
Evangeline looked at Thorne, her gaze deepening.
’I chose to reveal my power for two reasons: first, to intimidate the Beastmen of the Grymdale Tribe, and second, to win over Thorne.’
’He’s a Beast Husband from the Snake Clan, one of the male leads. To change his fate of dying without heirs, I need to resolve his deep-seated resentment and reshape his Beast Crystal. But I heard his curses loud and clear. If I dare approach Thorne as Evangeline, he’d probably try to take me down with him before I could even start my plan. It’s a dead end.’
’Fortunately, I’m using the identity of "Flora" right now. By saving him like a savior, what normal person wouldn’t be grateful?’
’Step one of my plan begins now!’
’Besides, a male’s feelings for a female are just like a man’s for a woman. It starts with gratitude, turns into affection, then deep love, and then naturally, they have a cub. A perfect happy ending for everyone!!’
’Also, Evangeline isn’t a Witch. No matter how suspicious Thorne might be, he would never believe that The Virago who persecuted him is the Flora standing before him now!’
Evangeline silently gave herself a mental thumbs-up for her cleverness.
With this in mind, Evangeline didn’t delay any longer.
She flicked her finger, and a sharp streak of light shot through the night sky, easily slicing through the ropes binding Thorne.
Thorne tumbled from the stone pillar. In the nick of time, Evangeline’s eyes lit up. With a light tap of her foot, she shot out like a bolt of lightning. Her movements were fluid as she securely caught Thorne in her arms.
Looking at her, she was clearly small and slender, yet she held the nearly two-meter-tall Thorne without the slightest sign of strain.
This was perhaps related to his emaciated state. Now that she was holding him, Evangeline realized Thorne lacked the strength of an adult male. It was likely due to his shattered Star Pattern; he was nothing but skin and bones.
She furrowed her brow and even gave him a little heft.
An eerie glint flickered in Thorne’s dark green eyes as he stared unblinkingly at Evangeline.
But when Evangeline hefted him, his body tensed. With a surge of strength, he violently flung her arms away.
Immediately after, Thorne’s knees buckled, and he collapsed heavily to the ground. The impact of his knees made a dull thud.
He clenched his jaw, a wretched sight, his face slightly contorted with suppressed emotions. Even though Evangeline had saved him, he wouldn’t even deign to offer a single word of thanks, let alone interact with his own tribesmen.
Thorne staggered, his steps unsteady, like a soulless husk. He stumbled away from the altar and quickly vanished into the night, leaving only a solitary and fiercely cold silhouette behind.
With him gone, it was even more impossible for the totem ritual to continue.
The Beastmen prostrated around the altar began to whisper among themselves, their faces showing anger they dared not voice.
’Thorne was set free, and the totem ritual was abruptly terminated. What if the Beast God gets angry again?’
The mysterious man clutched his chest, which was throbbing with unbearable pain. His harsh gasps for air sounded like a battered old bellows.
He slowly raised his head, his gaze like a dagger stabbing straight at Evangeline. He ground out through clenched teeth, "To get his revenge, Thorne led the Grymdale Tribe to slaughter the Oasis Tribe, and even their Witch was brutally killed! The Beast God was enraged and brought calamity upon all of Norfell! Why did you save him? What is your relationship with Thorne?"
