Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Don’t Make Me Unhappy

"Thorne will come too?" Evangeline blinked, a thoughtful look on her face.

A flicker of displeasure crossed Elias Moretti’s Beast Eyes at her abrupt change in attitude.

His expression remained impassive as he said calmly, "Father is the leader of the Grymdale Tribe. He won’t have it easy in the Monitor Tribe’s territory. For Thorne, the thing he wants most is to earn Father’s approval. Of course he’ll come."

Evangeline stared at Gable for a moment. Her long whip flicked lightly before coiling obediently back into her palm.

Then, she extended her hand toward Gable. "Fine. I can help, but give me the tail scales first."

Gable’s brow furrowed deeply. He said in a low voice, "If I give them to you, who knows if you’ll still help?"

Evangeline narrowed her eyes, her fingertips caressing the long whip. ’This old man is really rubbing me the wrong way. What should I do about it?’

Just then, Elias Moretti suddenly spoke up, "Gable! Give them to her!"

Although Gable was the Witch of the Grymdale Tribe, he was completely obedient to Elias Moretti.

He took a deep breath, took out a Mermaid Tail Skirt, and unwillingly handed it to Evangeline.

Evangeline took it. Looking at the Mermaid Tail Skirt shimmering under the moonlight, she let out a sigh of relief. The feeling was similar to when she obtained Thorne’s Beast Crystal. No matter how complicated the process, at least she’d achieved her goal in the end.

Cecilia West sidled over at that moment. She stared at the Mermaid Tail Scale and asked doubtfully, "What do you want Danton’s scale for? And you’re pestering Thorne... do you know that crazy female, Evangeline?"

Hearing this, Evangeline paused. With a flick of her wrist, she stored the tail scales in her space, putting them away securely.

"Illusion Realm??" Gable’s pupils constricted, somewhat shocked.

He only knew that the female before him was a Witch who could control the rain, had returned from a dangerous place like Thorncliff, and was a good fighter. ’But she also has an Illusion Realm? Is the Beast God really so biased?’

Elias Moretti was also a little surprised. He didn’t know about this either.

Evangeline shot Cecilia West a sideways glance, a contemptuous smile playing on her lips. "Mind your own business. You barely made it out of the Oasis Tribe with your life. You should cherish it, understand?"

Cecilia West’s face changed. Just as she was about to curse angrily, Elias Moretti snapped, "Get back!"

’Did she think Evangeline was some female to be trifled with? Cursing her to her face like that—does she have a death wish?’

Cecilia West bit her lower lip so hard it almost bled.

Most of her males had died in battle, and the rest were scattered during the escape. She had no choice but to depend on Elias Moretti, but in her heart, she was filled with regret. ’If only I had known, I never should have coveted Elias Moretti’s strength and status. He’s a male of outstanding talent, it’s true, but he doesn’t cherish females at all!’

Evangeline sat back down, took out another fruit and began to gnaw on it. "Do you know the specifics of the Monitor Tribe’s strength?" she asked.

Elias Moretti nodded. "They’re old rivals."

"The strongest in the Monitor Tribe is their leader, Forrest West. He’s a peak Six-star Beastman."

"Next is the Monitor Tribe’s Witch. The ability bestowed upon him by the Beast God is poison-making. His own strength isn’t high—he’s only a Three-star pattern Beastman—but he’s so steeped in poison that even a Six-star Beastman would have a hard time if they ran into him."

"Then there’s the Monitor Tribe’s number one Warrior, Mundo, who is also a Six-star Beastman." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Evangeline nodded. "Doesn’t sound like much."

At her words, both Gable and Elias Moretti looked at Evangeline with complicated expressions.

Cecilia West, however, sneered and muttered under her breath, "Such big talk."

Evangeline’s fingertips subtly brushed over her lower abdomen, and a flicker of hidden deliberation crossed her eyes.

’Although I look down on this bunch of Beastmen, I’m pregnant now. I have to act cautiously, avoid risks, and most importantly, not attract the Beast God’s attention.’

Thinking of this, she looked up at Elias Moretti. "You guys contact Thorne and call Orion over too. There’s strength in numbers. Once everyone is gathered, won’t we have a better chance of taking down the Monitor Tribe?"

Cecilia West chuckled mockingly. "Didn’t you just say you look down on the Monitor Tribe? You should be able to handle it by yourself!"

Evangeline raised an eyebrow. With a light flick of her palm through the air, she sent a resounding slap flying.

SLAP! Cecilia West’s head was knocked to the side, her cheek quickly turning red and swollen.

Cecilia West looked at Evangeline in horror. "You..."

Evangeline crossed her long legs and blew on her palm. "Just be quiet. Don’t make me unhappy."

She toyed with the fruit pit in her hand, the corners of her lips curling into a derisive arc. "I do look down on the Monitor Tribe. They really are nothing special. But didn’t Elias Moretti say Thorne would definitely come to rescue Chief Morgan? As his son, he has to be the one to do it. I can’t just steal his thunder, can I?"

Cecilia West clutched her swollen cheek, her face full of fear. She didn’t dare make another sound.

Still, she cursed silently in her heart, ’Thorne doesn’t even have his Beast Crystal anymore. What makes him think he can save anyone?’

Elias Moretti’s scarlet, vertical pupils stared at Evangeline. "The Wyvern Tribe is on the other side of the cliff. We can’t get there."

Evangeline frowned at him. "Then what’s your plan?"

Elias Moretti stared straight at her. "You can turn invisible."

"And?" Evangeline turned to look at him, her voice laced with sarcasm. "You want me to sneak into the Monitor Tribe and poison their water supply? Give them a taste of their own medicine?"

’Elias Moretti really is ruthless and decisive. He’s got what it takes to be a leader.’

"You mean you don’t have the stomach for it?" Elias Moretti half-closed his eyes, his rhetorical question leaving Evangeline speechless.

’Why should I be able to do it? I’m not the original owner of this body!’

’It’s true that this is a good way to solve the problem quickly, but what goes around comes around. If I’m the one who lays the poison, I’ll be the one to bear the karmic consequences. The backlash will eventually fall upon me, and I’ll be the one to pay the price.’

’And for what? For the Grymdale Tribe? Why should I?’

Evangeline mulled it over for a moment before looking up at Elias Moretti and saying evenly, "I can use a sleeping drug to knock them out. Afterward, you can take the Grymdale tribespeople and leave, but you can’t use this as an opportunity to slaughter the Monitor Tribe."

Elias Moretti offered a cold, sarcastic remark: "Hah. How kind of you."

Evangeline’s expression was cold. "You coerced the Midridge Tribe, which led to the Grymdale Tribe’s crisis. If I help you poison and annihilate the Monitor Tribe, how do you know there won’t be survivors who escape the net, just like you did? When the day comes that the Grymdale Tribe is slaughtered by those very survivors, whose responsibility will that be? Mine? Or yours?"

"I don’t want to get involved in the feud between the Grymdale and Monitor Tribes. After this is over, you can kill each other until the sky turns dark for all I care. You’ve given me the Mermaid Tail Scale. Helping you rescue your people and cure the Viper Saliva poison will settle the score between us."

After hearing Evangeline’s words, Elias Moretti was silent for a long time. "When do we make our move?"

Evangeline stood up and glanced at the bright moon hanging high in the sky.

"No time like the present. We’ll do it tonight."

「Elsewhere」

Near the Monitor Tribe, another group was stirring, ready to make a move.

The Beastman in the lead had sharp, well-defined features, with cold, hard lines to his jaw and cheeks.

He had deep-set eyes, and beneath his long lashes was a pair of pupils so dark they were almost black-green. The thin, cold moonlight cast a cool sheen on his handsome face. His gaze was piercingly cold, without a trace of warmth.

"Thorne, you just wait here. I’ll definitely rescue Uncle Morgan for you!"

From the side, Orion’s clear, bright voice rang out. He still had that same carefree and unrestrained air about him.

Thorne spoke in a hoarse voice, his bloodless face filled with an icy resolve. "I have to go."

Orion looked at his hair, which had already turned mostly white, and a flicker of sorrow crossed his eyes. He reached out and patted his shoulder. "Thorne, you’ve been through too much."

Thorne’s fingertips suddenly tightened, his knuckles turning a stark white.

He slowly raised his head, his black-green eyes reflecting Orion’s weary face. A lump formed in his throat, and in the end, all that came out was a low, hoarse, "Orion, thank you."

The night wind lifted his long hair, revealing the repeatedly healed Contract Mark on his neck.

It was the pattern of a Red Fox, only about the size of a palm. Its fur was the color of coagulated blood. As the moonlight swept over it, the Red Fox Contract Mark flickered in and out of existence, looking as if it might leap out at any second.
